Stopped in at this gem with a girlfriend during the day of antiquing in the area. We decided to split the turkey sandwich and fries along with a salad. Both were wonderful. The salad was especially impressive, a unique combination of kale, spring mix, roasted Brussels sprouts, pepitas and pine nuts, and for the surprise ingredient... chopped figs. They were the perfect complement to the other flavors, and the salad was topped off with a tasty homemade vinaigrette. Dining outside in warm weather could be nice, but people tend to bring children who think it's a playground and are rarely disciplined. I nice outdoor setting for lunch on Sunday, great to bring kids or dogs. I had not been in several years, and was looking forward to table service, which they no longer offer. Had a pimento cheese and bacon sandwich, which was good (the only thing that I would have liked would have been a little more bacon); nice that I could have greens on the side rather than pasta salad or potatoes. A little disappointed they were out of Diet Coke (really?) but forced into a healthier option. The highlight here is sitting outside on the nice grounds. Fearrington is a great place to visit and if you're walking around and need a bite to eat, this is the spot. Regardless of breakfast or lunch, the food is great. Can never go wrong with a grilled cheese and soup! They also have a separate mercantile area with a ton of specialty items. Great to look through if you need a gift for someone or even a nice bottle of wine to bring to an event (or crack open at home if that's your thing). I really wanted to like the coffee better. I ordered a vanilla latte and for some reason it tasted a bit off, maybe they used sugar free syrup? Maybe next time I'll forgo a coffee and choose from their beverage fridge. read more

This restaurant is in such a beautiful location and in such an elegant surrounding in the Farrington Village. But unfortunately the management or owner chooses to make it look like and feel like you're eating in a fast food restaurant. You order at a counter and you have to pick up your food outside at another counter and then you have to eat your food out of a plastic or a paper container. What a disappointment. This would be a great place for an elegant leisure or business lunch if they served food on plates. I won't be back again unless they served on plates like a restaurant. No class. :( read more

Although, we ordered before I saw the health rating - a 93! Yikes. It looks clean and I've eaten here before, so I ate there. It was good and fresh food. They stop serving breakfast at 11 and don't start lunch until 12. I assume it's for turnover and setting up, etc. but it's still odd. You can order earlier but it won't be ready until noon. So we've been to The Belted Goat many times but did not realize that they only serve breakfast from 9-11 and then stop food service for an hour before starting lunch at 12. My family and I unfortunately arrived at 11:01 and found this out the hard way. This seems like a really bizarre business model because not only my family, but several other large groups behind us were shocked to be told this by the staff. The store is pretty cute and I've liked the food in the past, but I got a latte and a hot chocolate today and they were TERRIBLE. Tasted like warm water - the latte did not taste anything like coffee so I wonder if there was even any espresso in it (or maybe just a little bit) and the hot chocolate was barely chocolatey. I have been coming here for a long time; since this was The Granary. It's disappointing that they are still using plastic utensils and serving their meals on paper lined metal trays. This place is absurd. They say they're open from 9-5 but they don't actually continually serve food during that period of time. If you come at 11 the kitchen is closed and reopens at noon. The fam and I wanted to do something different to switch up our normal socially distant park activities. We decided to grab takeout from the belted goat and walk around Fearrington Village so my son could check out the actual goats. We went on a Saturday morning and while there were some people there it wasn't crowded at all. The belted goat has a tent setup with tables across from their pickup window. This was the closest my family and I have been to dining out since mid-March. I liked that you could grab your food and sit on your own. The tent had maybe 10-15 tables and there was only one other table being used while we were there. It felt very safe! I also liked that they updated all their COVID information on Yelp and they followed through with everything on site. Staff had masks and gloves on. On to the food, I enjoyed my breakfast! I got the eggs benedict and it was quite tasty. The hollandaise was delicious and had a nice lemony kick to it. I also enjoyed the homemade english muffin and huge portion of tater tots that came with it. I got an iced chai which was perfect for the humid morning, iced wasn't an option in their online ordering system so I just ordered hot and added a note to please make it iced. My husband got the bacon and egg sandwich and didn't enjoy it as much since the english muffin was hard to eat. My son ordered the berry scone and it was delicious. Review of the coffee only: Unfortunately this cafe does not offer specialty coffee. The milk is steamed far too long with too much foam. You will not get creamy milk texture in your drink. The menu should be cause for concern as well since traditional cafe drinks are offered in small and large sizes. While this has become the norm, it needs to change. The small macchiato on the menu came in a 12 oz cup. This should be a 3 oz beverage. Unfortunately I could not taste the coffee because of all the foam. I am more than willing to change my review if improvements are made. The name of the drink should dictate the size and match traditional cafe standards. The menu should not have small and large options for cappuccinos and macchiatos. They should be 6oz and 3oz respectively. The milk should be properly steamed and not scalded. I do hope this review is taken as constructive criticism. I really do enjoy the location and ambiance. It would be nice if the coffee could make minor improvements. read more

The tomato basil bisque was divine - would love to have the recipe! The Rueben was simply awful. In addition to being cool rather than warm, the sandwich was on a nondescript, seemingly stale bread (not rye as promised, and not well grilled), with an "off" taste like rancid oil. The sparse amount of corned beef was flavorless and half-inedible due to the amount of gristle. The cheese was dry and tasteless, and I had to look to see if there was even sauerkraut and and sauce present. By far the worst sandwich I've had in my 70+ years, and my companion was in full agreement. Unfortunately, the side "greens", which were fresh and lovely, had a dressing on them that was so subtle (lacking flavor) that we decided to pass on it. My companion had traveled from Greensboro to visit Fearrington, and I'm embarrassed at the lunch I treated (more like subjected) her to. Our Belted Goat breakfast was a bit of a surprise, and not in a good way. We decided to find Eggs Benedict, this morning, somewhere close. They have an ordering counter where you order food and then wait in line (like Starbucks) for your coffee. Within minutes their cheap beverage cup of "bland" coffee began leaking at the bottom. When our food did finally arrive, the presentation was a little bit humorous to behold. Our EB's were served on tiny metal trays (for easy "self-serve/clean-up" later). On each tray was a wax paper sheet with an open muffin with the poached eggs and a tiny smattering of sauce, I think. We were given plastic utensils that wouldn't cut the muffins easily, a side of fast-food-style tater tots (not ordered); and two small bags of catsup, each. The Eggs Benedict was tasty unless you prefer your Eggs Benedict with a noticeable taste of hollandaise. Okay, lesson learned -we won't go back there for breakfast. However, by the time we had returned home, we realized that my hot tea's thin paper cup had also leaked, and a lot. The contents were all over my blouse and sweater. Honestly, I believe this 1-star Yelp review is well-earned. read more

Came here for lunch and got the ham and cheese cahella with fried egg and bacon. It came with a side of arugula. It was amazing a ham bacon and cheese smothered in more cheese and topped with 2 eggs over easy. I also sampled the grilled cheese with bacon and the broccoli spinach quiche. The toasted cheese was a lighter variety of what I had. The quiche was dissapointing. It lacked flavour there was no seasoning or onions in it. Which made it bland. The outside seating area is a sheer pleasure on a warm day. I also saw a lot of other items and desserts I will come back to try. read more

OH MY GOD. NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT. HOLY COW. We tried the pork schnitzel sandwich, which btw is massive, but the flavoring in it was amazing. It's one of those moments where you're in disbelief over the first bite that you had, because it's so good. The pimento sandwich was amazing, it had bacon and a fried green tomato. Just the right mix of savory with a hint of sweetness from the tomato. The coffee crumble cake had the perfect ratio. I love my crumble being the majority of it, which this was. It's probably the best coffee crumble cake I've had since I've moved here. They had so many items to go that we took home. One was the chilli which we are still working on, also delicious. But I need to do another shout out for the Cubano sandwich. The trick is to go with people who all like splitting their stuff so you can try a bit of each thing. They freaking nailed it here. Definitely going back soon. There is an area across over the lawn for extra seating which is great because the people that were sitting outside of the belted goat were just spring there for hours. After we finished our food we went walking and explored shops and sat down at the park area and then went back to pick up food to take back, those people were still there hours later outside on their patio area. But there's so many areas where you can just picnic at so it's fine in the end if you can't eat on their gorgeous patio. read more

Came here for some ice cream and the staff was plain out rude. We arrived at 4:45 pm and they close at 5:00 pm. However, there is no reason to treat people the way the staff treated us. We were with 2 elderly woman, and while we were downstairs eating our ice cream they came in and shouted "it's 5 pm we're going to ask you to leave". There was a rainstorm going on and another customer with an infant and another elderly woman asked, "in the rain", and the worker said "yes, in the rain and go out the side door because we already locked the door upstairs. It was dangerous to even walk outside under the torrential rain, and they did not care at all. We will NEVER come here again, and highly recommend no one else ever wastes their time, money or energy in coming here to get mistreated. The ice cream wasn't even that good. This place should be shut down if they can't find staff that wants to work and treat people humanely. They do not deserve the 1 star, but the app would not let me post my review unless I gave a star. read more

We randomly went here after a hike and were so happily surprised at this little village. We had no idea it was here. We we're so excited to go in and grab sandwiches and then go see the animals. There was a long line but the menu's were up front so it was perfect for us to be able to know what to oder when it was our turn. The customer in front of us finished and we walked up. The lady behind the cash register completely ignored us for 5 minutes even though we were right in front of her. I was a bit surprised and expected some sort of family owned hospitality but quickly realized this wasn't that. I also tried to understand that she maybe was overwhelmed or too busy so waited patiently. Then she just takes our order, very cold the whole time even though I tried to make small talk or say something nice. ‍ Then I even mentioned this was our first time and she didn't give us any direction on how we get our food or warn us that there was a half an hr wait until we were done and I had to ask her what we were supposed to do. There was another lady working in the shop part of the store and she was very nice and talking to customers but I did notice the customers who were ordering food were confused and frustrated. Afterwards we went outside and picked a table. It was so charming and peaceful, lots of families and couples around. Lots of cute dogs too. The other negative that stood out was the trash cans were overflowing and people didn't know where else to place their trash so they literally placed it on the ground next to the trash can. That was such a shame in such a beautiful place. The coffee itself was terrible unfortunately but then again this wasn't a coffee shop persay. The food was a 10/10 delicious! We both loved our sandwiches and even the simple salad (it had great dressing). We also got to go see the chickens and goats and furry cows which was a fun experience. This place has so much potential if only they got better managers who can be find better systems for the trash and guiding customers to order, and can train the employees to always be friendly. However, plenty of staff on shift and very delayed and inconvenient to clear and clean tables for guests. Not sure what poached shrimp is but would expect it to be served warm. It was cold and even more disappointed the dressing was not on the side as requested. Salad had too much dressing. The lettuce and endive was a pleasant touch. Met a friend for lunch on a very warm afternoon - very disappointed there is no indoor dining which has now been renovated as a souvenir shop. This is a bit awkward & inconvenient, when 1 person in your party is a "cash" person. This information should be advertised. In addition to these inconveniences, once your order is placed, then you will be texted to pick up your order at ANOTHER location OUTSIDE of the dining area near the PARKING LOT!! The pick up window is very high in height & if you are below 5'3", good luck trying to get your meal passed to you;(. Since, I was the youngest of the bunch, I picked up several of the orders & NO TRAY / OMG, who is the genius who thought this was an acceptable protocol to keep customers returning - I can say, it was NOT a genius. For all the trouble it was worth, I suggest ordering online, pick up at their window & find a nice shady place to have a picnic. The woman said they no longer had them but have frozen containers of ice cream. Where? I asked. Over there, she says with no particular direction indicated. So I asked again. She said behind you! We stopped in for a bite to eat while at Fearrington. There is a counter where you order your salads, sandwiches, pizza and gelato. There is also a wine shop where they do wine tastings on Saturdays. The only downside to the tasting is the plastic cups. In a nice setting like Fearrington, glassware is better. I also noticed that the pizza is served on cardboard and the cutlery is plastic so it must be designed for easy throw-away. The pizza is delicious and the staff is very professional. I saw the salads come out of the kitchen and they looked hearty and very fresh. You can also opt for dessert and coffee and it is s nice casual setting for a snack or glass of wine. In warmer months, the patio next door is open and so is the Roost. I learned you can get your wine in the glass from the Goat and then take it out to the patio. read more
