I love the ambience of this location. The location has cozy seating selections, the lighting was dim and just right. Plus, I loved all of the plastic greenery accents and animal pictures that correlate with the name of the location. The service was wonderful. There was only one waitress working but I considered her to be attentive even with the amount of customers there for hamburger Thursday. The owners were engaging and nice. I truly enjoyed my first visit here. Now let's talk about the food and beverages. I ordered the Jungle Bird drink. It was light, refreshing and contained a good equation of alcohol. I'll definitely order this again. The true reason my date brought me here was for the hamburger, which they only serve on Thursdays after 6 pm. The burger was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. No cap! This local establishment knows who to cook a great burger. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly, plus the toppings included a delicious house made sauce and a pickled veggie (I think it was squash). Shout out to the chef, owners and staff at the Beagle. Short review here because we didn't stay long. We have come here several times and though a little pricey for what you get for the price (small portions of food or average cocktails they are trying to create something different). The cocktails are kinda of craft artisan with fresh ingredients and some creative combinations. But the low score is simply for watching the youngish female bartender make our drinks while continuously vaping (literally making them one handed so she could vape with her other hand) and blowing exhaled vape all over our drinks and the bar itself. The thing that bothered us the most was that it wasn't hidden and the other workers saw her doing it including the chef/manager or owner. Then, the kitchen started playing very loud music which seemed out of place but more so that it was feuding with the restaurant music and making conversation impossible. I'm all for a good track of Judas Priest at loud volumes but... This place a couple years ago was great, but the service has taken a bit of a drop and the prices have crept up quite a bit as well. read more

Instead of addressing feedback respectfully, they chose to respond with personal attacks, profanity, and an aggressive tone. This kind of behavior from a business owner is not only inappropriate but completely unacceptable. It sadly confirms the poor experience we had and reinforces why I would not recommend this establishment to others. Extremely Disappointed - Would Not Return I rarely leave reviews, but our experience at The Beagle in Pittsboro was truly upsetting. The service was the worst we've encountered in a long time. My mom waited over an hour for a drink she ordered, and when she politely asked to cancel the cocktail and just get a beer instead, the young blonde waitress shockingly called her a "bitch" and refused to continue serving us. We were stunned--not only by the unprofessionalism, but by the complete lack of accountability from anyone else working there. No manager stepped in. No apology was offered. As for the food: it was mediocre at best. Small portions, bland flavors, and certainly not worth the prices they charge. I always love coming here when I visit my mom. However our last visit was shockingly bad. We had to flag down a waitress to order. Then we waited ONE HOUR for food after having to ask where it was. When the cook brought it out two of the dishes I reminded him we also ordered crab dip to which he said "well I only have two hands". We then had to ask for our bill because our waitress disappeared. Upon receiving the check I had to pay at the bar because again....no one came to pick it up. It was not busy in there either. There was no excuse for the poor service we received. Even the people at the table next to us commented that we were ignored all night and how strange it was. People who came in several minutes after us were finished eating before we got our food. I'm highly disappointed in the behavior of some of the employees and the sheer amount of complete avoidance of our table at every turn. read more

The Beagle is absolutely my go-to spot in Pittsboro! My husband and I try to get there at least once a week to enjoy a fabulous cheese plate and a couple of interesting cocktails, to unwind from a hectic week. There are so many things I love about The Beagle. First, the quality of their food is top notch. Everything from the oysters, to the deviled eggs, to the cheese plates, to the brunch offering has been just excellent. They do not have an expansive menu, but they take great care to make sure that everything they prepare is delicious and beautifully plated. The cocktails are both creative and aspirational. Each one offers a creative twist on a classic cocktail or drink trope, and I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge of craft cocktails through their creative offerings. In addition to their seasonal cocktail menu, they regularly create event-related cocktail menus to highlight holidays or events, and it is always a treat to check out these short term options as well. The location is cozy and charming, and I regularly refer to The Beagle as my corner speakeasy, although I do not think that term really applies. It is just such an inviting nook right in the heart of downtown Pittsboro. Finally, the owners and staff are just the nicest people. No matter how busy it is inside, the owner always takes a minute to come over and chat for a bit, and we are always appreciative. read more

The handcrafted cocktails prepared by Morgan were spot on! We went last Wednesday April 30th. In fact, I'm pretty sure we were there the same night Pam P. and Matthew P. (both reviews on here) were there and I distinctly remember the chain of events very differently. I feel compelled to share my third-party point of view since I personally know how hard it is for small businesses when they receive negative reviews to recover from them. It seems that a female (presumably Pam P.) asked the server/bartender to sample a bottle of wine, which the server promptly provided, but was quickly declined by the female guest. I also clearly remember the female approaching the bar and aggressively (not politely at all as stated in Matthew P.'s post) insisting on a beer. The next thing I saw was a female and two males abruptly leaving and while on their way out I clearly heard the female guest call the bartender a bitch, not the other way around as stated in Matthew P.'s review. I felt horrible for the poor bartender who, by the way, appeared to be the only server/bartender working that Wednesday night. It was Italian night so they were pretty busy. But I digress. Getting back to my review, I would strongly suggest trying the Beagle if you're ever in the Pittsboro area. You will not be disappointed. Order the gnocchi if you're there on a Wednesday. This bad experience actually came from how we observed another customer being treated. The server accidentally dropped a cocktail and the glass shattered and fell in the lap of someone at the table. Two of the people sitting at that table were drenched with the cocktail that spilled and one was picking glass from her clothing. Accidents happen and the two customers were actually very calm and understanding. The mistreatment came when they brought them their bill.
