Nice place to sit outside while having lunch. Cafeteria style. Enjoyed their chicken salad. Friendly staff.

Well I was doing what I do best these days; amblin' about and enjoying the mild, dry day. This is…read morethe prosperous thriving side of village Ireland, with lots of eateries from Italian to Thai, street food to sandwich bars, but drive 50 miles to Boyle to see a crumbling, down - at - heel place at the other end of the spectrum. President Higgins may take the government helicopter to Belfast, maybe even fly to Castlebar but I doubt if Boyle is on his or his helicopter's radar. Anyway Castlebar is the home area of Enda Kenny, now invisible but former Irish Taoiseach (2011 to 2017). It's typical of politicians to bring wealth to their constituencies and of course themselves and here is a fine example of political patronage and gombeenism. As I strolled I turned down a side street and I came across this place. Now as one who can resist anything but temptation I was instantly drawn by the sights & smells of expensive chocolate followed by the waft of equally expensive coffee. So text to my wife and in I go. Two cappuccino, two desserts (strawberry tart & chocolate mousse - both delicious) and €17 paid. Sorted. So to sum. It's quality. The coffee and cakes are super and the prices reflect the image. There's free WiFi too. A nice touch is the mini milk chocolate bar on the side of the coffees. Service was friendly and our welcome and departure were friendly. We'd return in a heartbeat after all its chocolate.

I don't know if this is food or fine music but I know I want to kiss the chef…read moreThank you for being part of dolce vita A hidden gem in Castlebar

It has an all white interior with a few tables. You order at the front counter They had a good variety of pastries and bread. They also had some savory things to like sandwiches. There is also a bathroom. The first time I went, it was around two or 3 o'clock. They were out of some things. I opted for a plain scone and a cup of tea. It was only €3.90! The scone are big. It came with butter and jam. They were delicious. My sister had an almond croissant that she said was also delicious. They had a variety of different teas. The second time I came in the morning, I had the fruit scone. It was also delicious with little bits of dried fruit in it. I also bought one to go. The same person waited on me both days. They were very nice and answered some questions about the different pastries. They also gave me an extra jam. They told us there were several locations in Galway. I would highly recommend.

I mean I'm an old age tramp walking streets in over 75 different countries (so far) while my wife shops. I shop occasionally and I'm quick. I've slouched around musing in my own world spring, autumn, winter and summer in temperatures ranging from minus 22c to 56c. The welcome here was stilted sort of not relaxed. As I walked with my coffee, well it didn't taste great at all. I was disappointed as I expected it to be delicious but it was ok, just ok so that ruined here out for a return including lunch. Maybe personal taste maybe lack of skill making it but it was not to my taste no thanks. Oh dear, what a pity, never mind.

The half bottle of wine I wanted wasn't in stock. The house white by the glass was not great. My partner really enjoyed his Scampi though. A group of three arrived in while we were dining and practically everything they went to order wasn't available. They were really disappointed as they came especially for the seafood at The Chalet. Maybe it was the recent bad weather had prevented the seafood from being fished or retrieved. The waitress didn't say. Fairplay to them, they were very reasonable about it and they all went for the scampi on the recommendation of my partner. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. I wouldn't return to The Chalet if I was in the area again.

It is clearly a popular restaurant because there were many people there when we came. We had the fish chowder, which was filled with seafood and wonderfully hot when it arrived. We also got as much fresh bread as we could eat with it. The dessert menu was extensive and very appealing. I had the chocolate mousse, which was like eating a chocolate cloud! My wife had the lemon posset that was very creamy and tangy without being sour. There was nice music in the background, which made for a memorable dining experience.
