After I told her what I was looking for with cut and color, she reiterated the plan at each step and explained her process throughout. The end result was exactly what I asked for. Okay everyone, listen up. You have to get your hair done here by Kenzie. Run, don't walk, to your phone (or use the one in your hand) and call and make an appointment with this miracle worker. I am VERY picky about my hair. I've had a lot of horror stories, and am so choosy about my stylists. I moved here in the last year and hadn't yet found a stylist. I stumbled on Kenzie's page and thought I'd give her a try... only thing is I needed my hair done for last minute engagement photos, so I didn't think she'd have an opening. I HATE booking last minute because it's not really fair to stylists who already work so hard. She was able to squeeze me in though, and she now has a forever (at least while I still live in Colorado) client. When my hair was dry, she took my little suggested tweaks to the cut, and seriously perfected what I wanted. The color is the quintessential golden, sun-kissed blonde that I always want but can never quite get with other stylists. Kenzie herself is such a sweetheart, and works quickly. The salon itself was a little odd, stations unusually close together and felt very on display to the outside world, and then I went with my stylist Kenzie into a strange back room that seemed like more of an office, not out with all the other stylists. Kenzie is *very* personable and I enjoyed my time with her immensely. I was happy with my hair as I left, but in the next week or so I had a lot of trouble styling it in a way that didn't look like "the Rachel" from 1997. The 'face-framing layers' went too far back and it was pretty impossible to get anything other than a shag, with the back abruptly longer. A friend teased me that I had a Rachel-mullet. It wasn't terrible and the only way to fix it would have been to go shorter all over, so I just lived with it, and it wasn't the end of the world. I feel like these days so many stylists are focused on color (which definitely does take expert training and focus), but I'm happy with my color. What I need is a precision cut, and this was sadly not it. The search continues! read more

There's no where else to go for cuts! Sometimes they don't call back which can be a negative, but they do have great stylists.

I have dark brown hair and I went to see Kenzie for balayage to add light highlights throughout. When I left the salon, my hair was a bit lighter throughout but there was none of the noticeable balayage highlights that I was expecting. It almost looked like a single shade unless I was standing under very bright lights. I contacted Kenzie and she agreed to do another balayage on my hair without charge (which was great I thought, until I saw the result). Now my hair is half brown/half orange, with an uneven line across my head where the brown becomes orangey yellow. This is NOT what I expected to see after an expensive balayage coloring service, where the colors should blend throughout. Kenzie seemed to think this was a great result. I'm attaching pictures so others can see the quality of the service I received. I'm desperately seeking another salon/stylist who can correct this mess. read more

Think of a $400 Snap-Chat posting of your most recent creation that disappears right after being viewed. That is essentially my experience with having my hair colored at The Beauty Lab by the stylist Christine (owner) recommended. After 5 -- yes 5 -- hours in the salon, I was pleased with the coloring of my hair. Several days later I washed it and all the color was gone. Totally gone. I had explained that something needed to be put in my hair for grey hair to make it hold. She was confused by this. Afterward I went in to have the stylist take a look at my hair, expecting an explanation and perhaps some sort of future price adjustment. She just said she'd go darker the next time, but had no idea why this happened. (On the day of my appointment, the colorist took several shots of my hair to show future clients. I just want you to know that as good as an artist she is, it just washed down the sink.) read more
