O heard that Wednesday is oxtail day- g Food is overall good. Prices are a little on the higher scale but the portions are generous. The sweet teamonade is good but it's not made with fresh lemonade. It's made out of lemonade that comes out of a bag....(silence) and not so beautiful. It's way too sweet, and as easy as it is to make lemonade with simple syrup. I've been here a couple of years ago for the first time and at that time a guy was in line in front of me with his daughter and he got 3'peach cobblers. I got one and maybe something else it was awhile ago. This is a Historic Soul Food Restaurants in Atlanta GA. I first heard about this place from Goodie Mob on the song Soul Food in 1995 when I wasn't even in the area. I came here yesterday and got one of the best meals of my life. Months ago I layed off of the beef. I've been eating chicken lately and sometimes you get chickened out. I looked at the menu before I made a trip to get some food for me and my Mama. I saw that they had Short Beef Ribs so I got a plate for me and Oxtails plate for Mom. When you don't go to a place in so long and you might not have had one of the best entree's on the menu you really don't know what you are missing! Established in 1979 and still going strong to this day! My cousin recommended we try a historic establishment. This is a cafeteria style restaurant and definitely packed with after service patrons. It was so many delicious choices and I couldn't decide so I got 2 dinners. The first was short ribs, cabbage and dressing. Then fried chicken, macaroni and cheese with yams. WOW! It's been 18-20 years since I've visited Atlanta, GA. By luck, I came across this establishment while I was in town visiting Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, and historic landmarks. I am extremely proud that this business is still open. I was a teenager when I first visited, and a lot has changed. I really wanted to like this place, but it fell just short. Location and Parking The restaurant is located on Cascade Rd, with a small parking lot out front. Venue and Atmosphere As soon as your walk in you'll be transported to your grandmother's living room, with the delicious smells of the kitchen at the back of the space. Proceed to order your meat and three, and add a dessert as you wish. The exit is on the other side of the restaurant and the foot traffic is a one-way flow, likely due to COVID. Food and Beverages The Mac and cheese was delicious, which is no surprise given that this is a soul food restaurant. However, the collard greens were a but sweet for me and the smothered chicken was entirely too salty. I really wanted to like it but I felt my blood pressure rising with each bite so I couldn't finish it. I also ordered the oxtail plate, which came with rice. The oxtails were satisfactory and the meat/bone ratio was decent, which is more than I can say for most restaurants. Service The staff were prompt, orderly, and kind. Verdict I'd order the oxtails again, but the smothered chicken left a lot to be desired. I'll give them another chance, especially as they have a good variety of entrees. read more

My parents would sometimes go here after church on Sundays. Food was always hot and good and the people working felt and treated the customers like family. Well, let's fast forward a couple of decades to what it is now. Still a neighborhood eatery, but it's definitely lost some of its soul. On this day I got the Turkey Wings, Lima beans, and cornbread dressing.....oh and let's not forget the Peach cobbler! The food isn't seasoned like it used to be, so it was a bit bland for my taste. The peach cobbler was delicious! The service was just basic, nothing to speak on. It may be a while before I'd return, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it! I'd love to give this place five stars just for its history, what it means to so many people and it's acceptance of everyone all the time. I'd love to give it five stars for the consistency of the food. The Beautiful is more than a restaurant, it is a friend. So much so that despite being a frequent customer, I've never even thought to check in here. You tend to not look at it as a business. It is just that much a neighborhood staple. My favorite is breakfast. But they do serve lunch and dinner and I hear they are famous for their banana pudding. I don't eat bananas or I'd try it for sure. The place is cafeteria style. The staff is polite but almost robotic. A trait they have taken on to deal with some of the most difficult customers I've ever seen. A customer is almost always changing their order, adding another order, forgetting their manners and raising their voice. The staff is never reactionary and always polite. And as their prices seem to inch up, nothing really changes. It is very much like visiting a southern grandmother's house. You will still eat well for under 10 bucks for breakfast. And you cannot beat the $6.99 lunch special. They are going to take their time to make sure your order is right. And you are going to wait. The inside is cramped. The regulars who have met and ate here for years are always present. Most days it adds to the appeal of the experience. But some days you can't really enjoy your meal because the line goes right past your table sandwiching you in your booth. The styrofoam to go containers doesn't seem to bother the establishment at all. Sagging pants need to be belted before you enter. Just do it. I've never been disappointed and have so many great memories here. Dine alone, get it to go or being the whole group. Ordering can remind you of the Seinfeld soup Nazi episode. There is little time or patience from the servers on the line for you to mosey with ordering. Maybe view the menu and all the wonderful food pics before you go. Around since 1979 this is one of the few places where old Atlanta blends seamlessly with newer Atlanta transplants. Yes there is a parking lot. My family loves to come visit and they LOVE southern food. I had heard this restaurant was black owned, historic, and good. I'm not familiar with this side of town and because it was after 8 on a Saturday night and I knew it was cafeteria type, I almost didn't go but I'm glad we did! It's small inside and the decor takes you back a few decades. There were a lot of older people there and most people seemed to know each other. I guess they were regulars. I was a bit surprised by the limited food selection. For some reason, I thought there would be many more options. I was really looking forward to some fried catfish but they didn't have it so I opted for the fried chicken. I think you get 5 or 6 pieces. The breading was amazing. I would have preferred the chicken have been cooked for a tad bit longer but that's a personal preference and a trade off you deal with going to a cafeteria type restaurant. I chose the dressing and gravy and the collards as my sides. Yumm! It really tasted like somebody grandma was back in that kitchen. I was stuffed by the time I finished my plate but I thought I had read about banana pudding. I ended up getting a cup (10% off after 9) and bayyyybayyyy when I tell you it was good! Omg. It's a bit rich so I had to save it for the next day because I felt like I was going to pop. I'm super surprised to see some had bad service because everyone was so nice to my family and me. Today, I broke down and ordered two expecting to break whatever gains I made in my pseudo diet. But after several bites, I'm mad and disappointed. They done switched the wafers. Unless Nabisco changed its own recipe, this can't be them falling apart in my mouth--tasteless and unsweetened. This pudding is SO dry. And I even got some from a new pan that just came out from the kitchen. It tastes like the near empty one that was sitting on the counter. Delicious comfort food and the biggest piece of fried catfish I've ever seen! And there were two of them!! We ate in the restaurant, although many people were taking food to go at lunch time. Jumped off at Cascade and thought about The Beautiful. It's been a long long minute since I've been to this Atlanta institution. My girlfriend has never heard of it and she been living here 20 years. My taste buds said I wanted some Peach Cobbler. We had to park behind the restaurant and walk around. Guess what no Peach Cobbler. We had to weed through the people because they were in line for plates. I chose the Lemon Pound Cake and it did not disappoint. I'm fact I didn't eat it until the next day. Most of their meats are just HORRIBLE. The vegetables are usually ok but portion sizes they give you for vegetables are always child-size. I took my daughter here last week, and tonight she says Mom can we go the Beverly's. I'm like WTF is Beverly's.....she's 22 and as her mother I hate to say this is only her 2nd time at this Atlanta icon, but I digress to say...she is as HOOKED as anyone ever is once they visit here for the first time. They use to stay open 24 hours, but we were informed tonight that they are now closing at 11pm. As I paid for our food, the cashier/manager questioned me if there was anything I'd like to see change, or would I be intrested in them going back to the 24 hour scheduling on Fridays/Saturdays. The only thing I told her was "don't dare mess with the banana puddin or peach cobbler, and yes...24 hours on Fri or Sat would work for me" Tonight we both had the salmon w/veggies and the dressing with rice...and all I can say is I just wish I had paid for an extra piece of salmon because when those munchies kick in about 3am tonight, I am gonna wish I had that.....but I digress to say...at least I bought an extra banana puddin....
