Oxtails on rice with Mac and cheese and yams with cornbread Mom Plate!
    Ahmad W.

I've been here a couple of years ago for the first time and at that time a guy was in line in front of me with his daughter and he got 3'peach cobblers. I got one and maybe something else it was awhile ago. This is a Historic Soul Food Restaurants in Atlanta GA. I first heard about this place from Goodie Mob on the song Soul Food in 1995 when I wasn't even in the area. I came here yesterday and got one of the best meals of my life. Months ago I layed off of the beef. I've been eating chicken lately and sometimes you get chickened out. I looked at the menu before I made a trip to get some food for me and my Mama. I saw that they had Short Beef Ribs so I got a plate for me and Oxtails plate for Mom. When you don't go to a place in so long and you might not have had one of the best entree's on the menu you really don't know what you are missing! Established in 1979 and still going strong to this day! I meant to Check In on the Yelp app but when you are going into a restaurant and trying to make choices for good food taking a pic and doing that went out of window. Delicious Soul Food! Come and get your Soul Food just save some for me. I might have to get here before you pull up ha lol! I visited on 8-3-2025.

BBQ Beef Ribs Dinner, rice and gravy, green beans and a corn muffin.

The food was absolutely delicious. My meal consisted of bbq beef ribs, rice and gravy, green beans and cornbread muffin. The ribs were tender and flavorful. The rice and gravy moist and the green beans were seasoned to perfection.

    Peach cobbler was yummy!

Soooo let's get into this review.....I'm born and bred ATL, so I've been many places in this city to eat soul food. The Beautiful Restaurant in the SWATS has been a staple since I was a kid! My parents would sometimes go here after church on Sundays. Food was always hot and good and the people working felt and treated the customers like family. Well, let's fast forward a couple of decades to what it is now. Still a neighborhood eatery, but it's definitely lost some of its soul. On this day I got the Turkey Wings, Lima beans, and cornbread dressing.....oh and let's not forget the Peach cobbler! The food isn't seasoned like it used to be, so it was a bit bland for my taste. The peach cobbler was delicious! The service was just basic, nothing to speak on. It may be a while before I'd return, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it! It may fit your taste buds.

Turkey Wing Dinner-- yams and mac n cheese! Was delish and nice size turkey wings in some good gravy!!

Food was awesome! The turkey wings were goodttt! The catfish was, too! My hubby was undecided, so when everyone kept coming in asking for spaghetti he gave it a try. It was delicious! The staff and servers were nice and friendly! Great service!

I'd love to give this place five stars just for its history, what it means to so many people and it's acceptance of everyone all the time. I'd love to give it five stars for the consistency of the food. The Beautiful is more than a restaurant, it is a friend. So much so that despite being a frequent customer, I've never even thought to check in here. You tend to not look at it as a business. It is just that much a neighborhood staple. My favorite is breakfast. But they do serve lunch and dinner and I hear they are famous for their banana pudding. I don't eat bananas or I'd try it for sure. The place is cafeteria style. The staff is polite but almost robotic. A trait they have taken on to deal with some of the most difficult customers I've ever seen. A customer is almost always changing their order, adding another order, forgetting their manners and raising their voice. The staff is never reactionary and always polite. And as their prices seem to inch up, nothing really changes. It is very much like visiting a southern grandmother's house. You will still eat well for under 10 bucks for breakfast. And you cannot beat the $6.99 lunch special. They are going to take their time to make sure your order is right. And you are going to wait. The inside is cramped. The regulars who have met and ate here for years are always present. Most days it adds to the appeal of the experience. But some days you can't really enjoy your meal because the line goes right past your table sandwiching you in your booth. The styrofoam to go containers doesn't seem to bother the establishment at all. Sagging pants need to be belted before you enter. Just do it. I've never been disappointed and have so many great memories here. Dine alone, get it to go or being the whole group. Ordering can remind you of the Seinfeld soup Nazi episode. There is little time or patience from the servers on the line for you to mosey with ordering. Maybe view the menu and all the wonderful food pics before you go. Around since 1979 this is one of the few places where old Atlanta blends seamlessly with newer Atlanta transplants. Yes there is a parking lot. People also park on the street and in the lot across the street. Oh and bring your ID if paying by card. They will check it every purchase. Don't take it personal. Favorites: desserts. Fried fish. Chicken sausage. Pancakes. Biscuits. Greens. Mac and cheese. Fried chicken. Dressing. Corn bread.

Salisbury/Chopped Steak. Dressing and Gravy. Macaroni and Cheese.

Had the chance to experience this establishment and....... Upon arriving there is parking in back so I was excited. LoL! The restaurant was very clean and the staff was very pleasant. The food wasn't as eye-pleasing as it was in the pictures. The plates come with 1 Meat and 2 Sides. I ordered the Salisbury Steak with Dressing and Macaroni and Cheese. I also got a side of 6 wings. The Real: When he ever put that 1 piece of chopped steak on my plate I thought it was a joke until he slide the plate down to the sides. LOL! 1. The chopped steak taste like the beef out of the Dinty Moore Beef Stew can. ‍ 2. The Macaroni and Cheese take like Macaroni and Egg Pie. There was an immediate need for some salt, pepper, garlic salt, something. 3. The Dressing and Gravy was ANAZINGGGGGGGG. (I'll be back for a side of this!) 4. The wings were seasoned to perfection. Perfectly golden fried and absolutely awesome. Overall, I will come back again for the wings and dressing.

The food is awesome, the tea will give you diabetes though, fr! You have to mix it with unsweetened tea to balance it out.

After seeing recent reviews online for the newer place, A1 Soul Food I decided to give it a try when I was in the area during lunch time. The area is a bit sketchy. It shares a lot with an vacant Dollar Tree & a few other businesses. Lock your car & be aware of your surroundings because you never know what you may see. That is honestly the way to be anywhere on MLK drive. When you get inside, the place is set up cafeteria line style with booths for dining in if you choose too. The prices are listed on the wall and they serve breakfast and lunch/dinner food with the prices listed clearly on the wall and daily specials also. You order by standing in line & they place your food into a styrofoam box & you can eat it there or take it home. I opted to take mine to go. I waited in line for about ten minutes which I hear is good for this place. I honestly did not know what I was going to order until I saw the fresh fried pork chops come out (please see my picture). Not only did they look fresh, but they were big, crispy & well seasoned. The meat only option included two and the price was more than right. I will be back for those again the next time I am in the mood for some soul food.

The portions are amazing, the food is always fresh, and you can genuinely taste the consistency and care in every bite. It's the kind of place you go to when you want something filling and comforting. My personal favorites are the fried catfish and the smothered turkey legs--omg, they are so flavorful and always cooked just right. I've grown up eating here, and one thing I can say is the quality has never changed, which is rare and definitely appreciated. The vibe is simple and laid-back, but the food speaks for itself. It's all about good, hearty meals that keep you coming back. Also, if you're in the area, you definitely have to check out Wing Cafe right next door--another solid spot you don't want to miss
