Respectfully I was not a fan. The owner, (I guess, he was behind the counter and had a sense of pride about him) was very nice and welcoming which is why I am giving 3, but the food and the price for the food just were not there. I cannot really say it was over priced, two people for $24, it was more so the portions and the taste or lack there of of the food. Someone else wrote a review and I have to agree, the food is simple. Bland, like bland bland had to use all the syrup on my French toast and wish I had more simple, all the salt, pepper, and ketchup I could for my eggs and grits, and the bacon that I got was even bland and was not anything different then what you could have bought at Kroger. My friend was never very ecstatic about her meal either. We left hungry and my pocket a little sore. The owner/cashier did not ask if it was here or to go and just put everything in a to go box, we ate there. He is really nice and will put anything on the tv that you would like, even has a fire stick if you want to watch a movie (nice tv screens, 3 of them in total that I saw). Just couldn't get over the food which really saddened me because he has a great menu and it could just be that I got the wrong thing, but I am not one to rush back to a place to try something else that, in my opinion, is overpriced, just to see if it is better then what I had the first time. Maybe it is better for you! I would definitely go, but from my first experience I just was not feeling it.

Amazing!!! Black woman owned and it shows in the attention to detail…read more Now I may still be high off how great a night I had but let me see the vibe. I was meeting a coworker for a double date and while I was running late I called and they were cool the whole way. I get there they had some drinks the enjoyed bad the waiter (J if I got that right) was on point with suggestion. I did their friend chicken for personal reasons and it didn't disappoint. I also tried the salmon egg roll and lemon pepper wings and yes the lemon pepper wing brings nations together. I'm from nyc I saw it happen. Anyway after I slapped the table for how good the fried chicken chicken treated me I yelled at the bartender in praise to explain that green tea French 75 was to damn good and I needed a second ones. The whole point of the night was me wanting my coworker to be cool with me outside of work is d this place made me look cool. They sake if I been here before and wanted to go out wherever I'd suggest. To end the glaze the bartender won awards and honestly I will ABSOLUTELY be back. This is just the right level of "I know places" to make me look cool but also make me impressed as a newcomer. It's gem. Loved it!

I ordered the fried chicken, which came with collard greens, macaroni, and sweet potatoes…read more Unfortunately, the food didn't quite meet my expectations. I'll admit, it's hard for me to fully enjoy soul food when dining out since I'm used to cooking it to my own taste at home. That said, the service was excellent--our waiter was very hospitable and attentive throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had a quaint, cozy atmosphere, and I appreciated the option for outdoor seating.

After decades of fine dining, my wife and I hit a wall a few years ago. All the high-end…read morerestaurants (not just in Atlanta but everywhere) seemed to either be formal "fancy" dining with boring menus and crazy high prices, or chef-centric places more interested in showing off the kitchen's chops than providing an enjoyable experience for diners. We'd rather find a hole in the wall on Buford Highway. But with a big anniversary coming up, we thought we should go someplace nice. I chose Avize because the menu looked much more interesting and cohesive than any of the other fine dining options I checked out. I was not disappointed. It was one of the best meals I've had in Atlanta in years. Service was very attentive though, admittedly, we were one of only a couple of tables. The sommelier spent a long time with us discussing our tastes and recommending options before settling on a funky and delicious bottle from a small producer in France. For the first course we ordered venison tartare and ramp and morels three ways. The ramp and morel dish was a showcase, though the venison was probably the star of the evening. For mains I got the fermented carrot Bolognese. Delicious and well-executed, though probably less adventurous than the name suggested. The lamb definitely showcased the chef's skills, with four or five different cuts and preparations on the plate, but focused on flavor rather than showiness. We also shared two sides. The tartiflette - a cheesy, bacony potato dish - and fried artichokes in a delicious pesto cheese sauce. There were no disappointments. Every dish was inventive, beautiful, delicious and reminiscent of our time in Switzerland and northern Italy. It's also worth mentioning that the portion sizes were just right - we left full but not stuffed. Total came to under $300 including wine, tax and tip, which is quite reasonable for that level of food and service (the tasting menu is quite a bit more). All in all, it rekindled my hope that fine dining can break out of its rut.

We chose to self-park and made a reservation in advance for our anniversary dinner. It was my first time visiting, so I was amused by the life-size alpine goat décor in the center of the restaurant. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive, though it became a bit harder to find him toward the end of the dinner. That said, the other servers were also very professional and friendly. The food is good, though some dishes had unexpected flavors. Not bad, just not what I personally expected or preferred, but my boyfriend happily finished those dishes. We had: - Amuse-bouche: a complimentary starter from the restaurant - Pretzel bread with homemade butter: complimentary and perfectly balanced in flavor - Dandelion salad: a bit too sweet for my taste the more I ate it. The sweetness comes naturally from marigold pollen and nuts, but it was a bit much for me - Lemon pepper frog legs: slightly too salty and sour for my preference - Pomme rösti (trout roe with cream on crispy layered potato): this dish was good, though I kept thinking it looked like fried tofu - Jäger schnitzel: this chicken entrée was very good - Halibut: I didn't want the curry, so they kindly accommodated my request and served the curry on the side, even though it normally comes with the fish - Tiramisu for dessert, and they also brought us white pepper ice cream as a complimentary anniversary treat. That was a really nice gesture. The ice cream was refreshing with an interesting flavor Keep in mind that the complimentary bread will be charged if you request a second serving. If we had known, we probably wouldn't have ordered more. The server suggested the bread would pair well with the frog legs and asked if we wanted extra, so we went for it. However, the bread actually paired better with the butter than with the frog leg dish. When checking out, they give you a chocolate truffle in a mini chest. I loved the mini chest! Overall, we had a nice experience. Definitely recommended.
