For the first time ever I had Smothered Fried Pork Chops. It wasn't like the dried, tough pork chops I remember as a kid. It was much less dried and much more appealing. It could use more meat though, as the breading was a lot of the dish. I also enjoyed the chicken, and all the sides we got. the people are super friendly, and the setting kind of fun. Mac & Cheese The flavor was seasoned well, but there was barely any cheese. It was basically just macaroni with seasoning--not the creamy, cheesy dish I was expecting. Collard Greens They had a nice smoky flavor, but the saltiness was overwhelming. I literally had to mix them with the dry macaroni just to balance it out. Pork Chops This was the biggest letdown. The menu described a 40 oz pork chop, so I expected a thick, hearty cut. Instead, what I received was one of the thinnest pieces of meat I've seen in a long time--closer to the size of chicken lo mein broccoli than a real chop. On top of that, the heavy KFC-style batter made it all crunch with no substance. It felt like I was eating fried breading instead of pork. Overall I left very disappointed. Got here at about 630 pm. Ordered and it took about 10 minutes to get food. However they ha e a sign that says that they cook everything to order. Ordered the smother chicken wings with ppotato salad, and candy yams. The wings were over yellow rice. My only complaint is that the rice was salty. I liked that they fried the wi as first and then put the gravy on top. So the wings still had a little crunch. The potato salad had to much mayo. The corn bread was good. When selecting my order, I was a bit confused because there were duplicate food selections, but the prices and descriptions were different. In hindsight, I probably should've called the restaurant to confirm, but I went based off the descriptions instead. I ordered the shrimp Alfredo pasta which was described as Atlantic salmon AND gulf shrimp. My order to a WHILE to arrive. I got a notification that the restaurant was taking a little longer than expected and then I assume traffic played a role too. Once I finally got my food, I was disappointed to see only shrimp. I called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone said the $30 meal is what includes both salmon and shrimp...even though the titling and descriptions were wrong. I informed her of the error and she said she'd go on and check it out. I took my L this time, but hopefully they fixed it for other customers in the future. Okay, finally taste - it was cool, but I wasn't impressed. The shrimp were seasoned very well, but the Alfredo was missing something and tasted a bit off. The broccoli was undercooked (this is coming from someone who likes her broccoli still a BIT firm) and unseasoned and the mushrooms were cooked well, but also unseasoned. I thought they would've given more than three broccoli florets, but it's whatever. The garlic bread was good though. The food looked good, but didn't taste as good. It just didn't taste good and there was a weird ingredient over powering everything and sides are $6.50 so not cheap at all. The food was a tad pricey especially considering nobody really enjoyed the food. The smothered pork chops were not tender, the cornbread was dry and the gravy was AWFUL. Never heard of this spot until now. A new addition to the West End so i decided to give it a try since I was definitely craving some vegetables. There's only an option for a 4 item vegetable plate. I would've preferred if there was an option for just 3 item veg plate but I went with the four. It's really expensive... $18 for the plate. This from a person who's used to grabbing $10 avg priced veggie plates from various soul food spots scattered over the city. Don't think I'll be back too often based on sheer price alone. HOWEVER, service was impeccable! Since I pulled up with a sleeping toddler and was unfamiliar with the ordering process, the owner offered to bring my meal out to my car even though they do not offer curbside delivery. I thought that was extremely kind of her! Food was great! Macaroni made you feel like someone didn't just pour a bucket of Velveeta in a pot mixed with noodles. The Black Eyed Peas and lima beans were on point. They were soft and well seasoned. I got the yams but I didn't want yams. I feel like people do too much with brown sugar and marshmallows and all of that (personal opinion of course) but this version was sweet and the texture was definitely candied. In hindsight they may have been a but sweeter than I typically care for but the candied texture made for a mouth watering experience. I enjoyed them! The cornbread cake was delicious. Didn't really need the honey butter but it would've been nice to try. My little shot container (as pictured ) was only about 1/4 full so not much of an experience there. This is it. Really. I learned about this spot on Yelp and immediately fell in deep, passionate love with each bite that I took of my delicious meal. The spot is so mysterious and almost looks like a factory outside in the West End, but they are churning out food that only about three Black Grandmas in the kitchen who can make the good potato salad can make. It was simply perfection. It was fast. It was hot to the degree where I almost burned my hands removing the peach cobbler from the bag, and that is how it should be.
