They've been serving the Westside since 1979, and after visiting again, I can see why they've stood the test of time. The customer service was excellent from the moment I walked in. The food came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. I ordered the fish with cheese grits, cheese eggs, and a sweet tea, and everything was delicious. While I was there, the phones never stopped ringing and customers kept coming through the door, which tells you all you need to know about the quality and consistency. I actually featured Unity Restaurant in a video last year, and the owner told me that customers packed the restaurant out afterward. That's a testament to how much the community loves this place. The rating is not for the food it's actually for the service. When I went in it was really packed and my first time at the establishment. I didn't know where the line began or ended, so I politely asked the guy next to me and he said he had ordered as well as the group that was standing along the wall. I attempted to grab a menu and almost knocked the 1932 register down, and the lady seemed somewhat agitated and told me to knock it down blah, blah, blah. I apologized, she handed me a menu from behind the mountain of paper stacked on the c One other person came in after me, apparently she had been before and told me that it was cash only. This took me back to WAY back in the day to true home-cooking. Not just cooking at home, but the real deal, way that your great grandma did it. Forget this stainless steel/teflon or whatever other material is popular at the moment nonsense, we are pulling out the old seasoned cast iron skillet. Everything is made from scratch. The folks are just as nice and friendly as the lemonade or sweet tea that they serve to drink. The gospel music (not the new fangled stuff) is blasting.
