    Complimentary bday dessert
    Luciana M.

One of our favorite Kauai traditions is having our last dinner at The Beach House. This year we decided to go a night early, and as always, the sunset, atmosphere, and company were beautiful. We started with a couple of drinks at the bar (good, but wow... almost $50 for two drinks and my "5-ounce" rosé looked more like 3! The hostess was incredibly kind and found us a wonderful patio table after our first one wasn't quite right, and our server was outstanding all evening. We brought a special bottle from our cellar, enjoyed the fresh catch of the day, and had a lovely evening together. But if I'm being honest, the food and presentation just weren't what we've come to expect from The Beach House. I usually take pictures of every dish, but this time nothing inspired me. The only photo I took was of the complimentary birthday dessert because I was honestly shocked by how underwhelming it looked. To top it off, we found out at the end that the corkage fee was $45. My husband, who is a sommelier and has been in the wine business for many years, kindly asked if they would consider waiving the corkage. They checked with the manager, but the answer was no. No hard feelings toward our wonderful server--we tipped him well because he truly took great care of us. We still had a beautiful night because that's what matters most. But Beach House... this is such a special tradition for us, and this visit just didn't feel like the fine dining experience we've always loved. Here's hoping it was just an off night.

My favorite meal during my vacation. Be aware of the 4% tip automatically added to the bill. My husband and I got here at around 7pm to watch the sunset and take some pretty photos. Note that a section of the area is public so you don't need to be a customer at The Beach House to get pretty photos. Parking is often a challenge, but we found free parking next to the beach. I recommend arriving early if you don't want to use the restaurant valet. We were seated approximately 10 minutes after our booking time (7:30pm). We ordered the lobster and mahi mahi pasta, as well as the filet mignon with mash and green beans. We kept drinks low-key with a Hawaiian cola and a house made ginger beer. Service was speedy, friendly and attentive. I expected live music but there was none during our visit, which was disappointing. We loved the complimentary foccacia - it was hot, fresh and flavorful. The lobster was fresh and sweet, the mahi mahi tender and mild. The pasta was homemade and the sauce was absolutely delicious - creamy and cheesy, with tomatoes and onion. My husband's steak was tender, and the mashed potatoes were delicious. Both mains were very generous portions. We then enjoyed dessert. We chose the basque cheesecake and the mochi chocolate cake. The cheesecake was decadently rich and creamy, almost melted in the middle. The mochi cake was moist, fluffy on the outside and a little denser in the middle. I highly recommend both. The menu is quite limited, but I recommend visiting if the menu takes your fancy!

What a gorgeous spot! We decided to come here for dinner (celebrating Hubby's bday) on our last night on Kauai. They don't lie about the views. Sunset views were the best. It can get crowded from outside the restaurant but still definitely one to see. We were greeted by Michael who was very friendly and helped us with our questions. I had the Mac Nut crusted fish. The rice was a little bland but the bok choy and sauce were great. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were delicious but you only get two. Hubby had the ribeye and he said it was ok, but not terrible. My son ate up the filet mignon. Since we were celebrating a birthday, they gave us a chocolate mochi cake with ice cream and it was great- not too sweet. Overall, a great place to check out but wouldn't come back multiple times. The views are wonderful especially if you could get a table facing the ocean. It's $10 valet which is worth it!

The Beach House in Poipu is one of the most highly recommended restaurants on Kauai for a special evening with family and friends. With arguably some of the best waterfront seating and sunset views on the island, it's easy to see why many consider it a premier fine dining destination. This was our first visit, and we were lucky enough to get a reservation just before sunset. We started with the famous Monkeypod Mai Tai and shared several appetizers. The standout dishes were the fresh fish, the lobster pasta, and the crab cakes, each was excellent. The service was friendly and attentive, and the menu offered plenty of great options. Parking can be a bit challenging if you don't want to use valet, so plan accordingly. You're paying for the incredible views, the relaxing ambiance, and a memorable dining experience. If you're looking for a special meal on Kauai, The Beach House is well worth a visit. Enjoy.

A lovely Hawaiian dinner. Y'all it's family friendly! There are a few kid menu items available with plenty of non alcoholic beverages for the kiddos. Such a beautiful setting and the food still delivered a pleasant culinary experience. Everyone enjoyed their meal and bread and olive oil was provided complimentary. The mai tai's were excellent and service was spectacular! Pro tip: make dinner reservations an hour before sunset for the most beautiful view.

This restaurant came recommended on behalf of some family/friends who had spent time in Kauai and, while the experience was overall very good, there are a couple reasons I've giving it 4 stars instead of 5. First off, this place is absolutely stunning, especially at sunset, and the constant buzz of guests certainly indicates the restaurant does well for itself. One of the most beautiful places I had the opportunity to eat on the island. Second, the food is amazing! I ordered their seared ahi tuna, which is day boat (meaning it's caught that very same day). It was sooo fresh, a great portion size, and the jalapeño potatoes and soy/ginger type sauce it comes served with is mind blowingly good. Debatably the best ahi tuna steak I've had in my life! The only reasons I give it four stars is because service was a bit slow and because of the price point. Though it's hard to blame them with how busy the restaurant was, we were seated late and ended up spending about 2.5 hours at the restaurant, which is longer than I would've liked to spend at dinner. The price was also a bit elevated (ex: a salad with chicken is $33), though I can't say I'm too surprised being that it's Hawai'i. Overall, a great dinner spot, and an especially great spot if you're celebrating a special occasion or a nice night out!

This place is awesome! It is very expensive, but you get what you pay for. Our server, Andy was phenomenal. He was very attentive and friendly. Best service we had on the island was from Andy. The food was pretty good too. The view is unbelievable.

My parents came here on their honeymoon over 35 years ago, and told us we had to swing by here to catch some of the best sunsets ever. They were not wrong in that fact! We had a reservation at 8:15 and made sure to show up early to watch the sunset. It was spectacular. When it was time to check in, we were told it would just be a few minutes, but unfortunately we waited 30 minutes later. We finally got seated, and were greeted with water and warm bread (amazing bread by the way). I don't eat much seafood besides shrimp, so was hoping they'd have some good non seafood options, but they didn't have a ton, so I got the arugula and goat cheese salad with chicken. The salad was decent, but not $33 worth. The chicken itself was $13. Overall good experience but wouldn't come back again unless it was to watch the sunset with some drinks

This restaurant sits perfectly on the ocean and in a great spot. We took pictures during sunset then had dinner. It was so beautiful. The dinner and service was beautiful. Our server was so kind and attentive and personal. My only negative on the food was the fish dishes didn't have enough sauce. The ratio seemed a bit off. However it was so good. Scallops = yes I'd get again Ulu Ravioli = amazing and my child favorite. She'd get it over and over again. Such a special place to celebrate. Must go!

Yes, yes, yes! This place is amazing. This was my second time here and it is now a staple when on island. To be fair, I love pretty much all the "monkey pod/Merriman" restaurants. (This one may have the most challenging parking so prepare to valet or look for a spot. The valet will send you a link to pay digitally which is nice) Love the Beach House though. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with aloha and the vibes are high. The views are amazing. Highly recommend coming at sunset but to do so you'll most likely need a rezi in advance. Aside from all that the food is delicious and a mai tai is a must!

Great service and ambiance! They called me prior to my reservation to see if I wanted a lei at my table ($20 additional charge), and I loved that attention to detail. Obviously I got the lei! I celebrated my birthday here and the waitress brought me a to-go dessert free of charge. My filet was cooked perfectly. The Mai Tai was great. The String Beans were great! I have tried to recreate them at home. I loved the lemon aioli that came with the crab cakes. The only thing I disliked were the cucumbers, as they lacked flavor. Everything else was perfection. I will be returning during my next trip to Kauai.

I had heard great things about The Beach House in Kauai. The sunset views, the food, and the vibe. However, I was not expecting what I got. Our waiter was above amazing. Giving us everything and more that we asked for. The view was one of the best sunsets I have ever experienced. Oh, and the food was delightful. I started with their signature Monkeypod Mai Tai to go with my appetizer. The Mai Tai ha Kula Organic Silver and Dark Rums, Fresh Lime Juice, House Made Macadamia Nut Orgeat, Orange Curacao, and Honey Lillikoi Foam. We had the house made focaccia that was beyond heavenly. And then the Coconut Shrimp that had Coconut Sauce, Ginger, Garlic, Jalapeno Relish, Cilantro and Lime. For my main I went with the Seared Ahi Steak that was served with Jalapeno Mashed Potatos, Chili Broccoli, and a Soy Sesame Maui Onion Sauce. To close out the meal I had an Espresso Martini made with House Made Cold Brew Extract, Pau Vodka, Local Koloa Coffee Rum, and Vanilla Bean Syrup. The dessert was a magnificent Coconut Creme Brulee with House Made Ginger Snap Cookies. ___________

On Open Table you can request Bar with ocean facing or standard. Which would give you the best view of the ocean? From the photos, the bar area is a little pushed back from the windows.

You are correct the bar is pushed back so it's better to sit closer to the window in regular tables The bar has some ofean facing has views, but you get better views of the ocean if you sit at the tables that are right next to the windows.

Do they ever have live music in evenings?

When I was there on the 4th of July there was no live music. I have been there several times and did not hear any live music.

Can you order food at the bar?

    Yes

Required attire are shorts permitted with flip flops and button down shirt?

Yes, I called the restaurant they said yes and then me and the family showed up in our shorts, T-shirt's & flip flops. Most everyone was casual but it was a mixture of fancy clothes & casual street wear.

Now that the fabulous Peter Merriman is an owner of the restaurant, has the food and service risen to his wonderful standards?

My opinion differs from the other answer, I actually think yes. All of the proteins are locally sourced, the menu is streamlined right now because of covid with problems with availability and also a smaller kitchen crew, but the are consistently…

Anybody know what their happy hour entails? Like what discount and what is discounted?

In Hawaii all islands happy hour is very short. Usually 2:30-3:30 or 3:30-500. They have a few appetizers at a discounted price and beer is around $5.…

    What is the dress?

It can be just about anything, Nice shorts and shirt all the way to a suit. Make reservations so you are there for sunset.

Does this place sell gift cards online or over the phone?

I would assume so. If you are buying a gift card, you are going to make someone happy. Tell them to make reservations an hour or so before sunset.

Is it really not good for kids? Even if we come in the afternoon? Or sit outside when open?

They are very accommodating and welcome families but it is pricey. The atmosphere is very friendly not stuffy. I booked a reservation during sunset, which is the best time to go.

The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.

He also took the time to congratulate us on the anniversary. For an appetizer, we had the Crispy Hoisin Honey Pork Ribs- SO GOOD. The perfect amount of sweet and spicy. Crispy yet tender. Great way to open up. I started with the Makai mule, it was a good island take on a mule. For dinner, my wife had the prime rib with a side of coconut shrimp. Request a table near the windows for a sunset view. We arrived and were greeted and seated immediately. Shortly afterwards we were served complementary spicy edamame.
