The best thing on the menu was the focaccia - make sure to get extra! Overall slightly disappointing especially when factoring in the price. Ordered the veggie pot pie, cucumber Szechuan salad and ravioli. The salad and ravioli were very bland all considering. The pot pie had an opportunity to deliver unique but missed on execution of portion size and flavor. The rest of the table ordered a mix of the dishes with the highlights being the surf and turf. The sauce on the tuna was almost like a grocery store ginger dressing. Giving us everything and more that we asked for. The view was one of the best sunsets I have ever experienced. Oh, and the food was delightful. I started with their signature Monkeypod Mai Tai to go with my appetizer. The Mai Tai ha Kula Organic Silver and Dark Rums, Fresh Lime Juice, House Made Macadamia Nut Orgeat, Orange Curacao, and Honey Lillikoi Foam. We had the house made focaccia that was beyond heavenly. And then the Coconut Shrimp that had Coconut Sauce, Ginger, Garlic, Jalapeno Relish, Cilantro and Lime. For my main I went with the Seared Ahi Steak that was served with Jalapeno Mashed Potatos, Chili Broccoli, and a Soy Sesame Maui Onion Sauce. Yes, yes, yes! This place is amazing. This was my second time here and it is now a staple when on island. To be fair, I love pretty much all the "monkey pod/Merriman" restaurants. (This one may have the most challenging parking so prepare to valet or look for a spot. The valet will send you a link to pay digitally which is nice) Love the Beach House though. The sauce served on the side is absolutely mouth-watering, and the jalapeño mashed potatoes were unreal. My only regret is waiting until our last day on the island to eat here, because I 100% would've come back a second time. It was a bit loud, but that was expected based on other reviews, so it didn't bother us. We had an 8:00 PM reservation, but were offered bar seating if we could find space--and surprisingly, they accommodated all five of us (kids included), likely due to how busy they were. We ended up snagging five bar seats and enjoyed dinner an hour earlier than planned. The ambiance is lively, with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Just note that if it's raining (which happens often), indoor seating may be your only option. Bottom line: don't pass up a meal here--you won't regret it. Just make sure you plan financially. The macadamia crusted fish was pretty good overall, just overpriced (by a lot) so I think in terms of value, this place perhaps isn't the best. That said, it's gorgeous right on the water so that's a nice touch. It's definitely a tourist spot so if you're visiting and want a nice sunset, it's a good spot for that. Last year when we went to Kauai, my husband's parents came along. They asked us if we go to The Beach House. We had never been, despite it being directly across the street from our condos. They go to Maui every year, and they love the Monkeypod. Since both restaurants are owned by the same company, they wanted to go over for "the best" Mai Tais in Hawaii. We went over for Happy Hour. (Literally ONE hour every day, 3:30-4:30pm.) Happy hour Mai Tais (cocktails) are $4 off ($17 HH price). Pupus are $5 off. (We got potstickers $20 HH price.) Beers are $2 off ($10 HH price). So while the prices are on the high end (even happy hour) it is Hawaii so that is to be expected! Now every time we go to Kauai, The Beach House is on the itinerary! (We average 2 visits every trip!) The location of this restaurant is fabulous. The staff make for a very high end experience with their knowledge and manners. The entire interior environment is very bland and underwhelming though. The tuna steak is delicious but we had to make sure to ask for wasabi since it doesn't come with it, which I never understand. The lobster bisque I did not enjoy. I couldn't identify what the ingredient in it that I didn't like but it kind of tasted like a bowl of caramel and the whole thing was too rich and dessert-like somehow. It was a weekend night I will give them that, I have had these reservations for a month, got there a bit early and still had to wait to be seated. We came to Beach House on a Monday night with reservations, which I'd definitely recommend. The restaurant is stunning with gorgeous views and such a relaxed, upscale vibe. We all ordered the Mai Tais and they were pretty lime-forward, refreshing, but one was definitely enough. We started with the potstickers and they were delicious. We split the catch of the day and the salad, which was honestly perfect for two people. The fish came with bok choy and rice, and the sauce that accompanied it made a huge difference in flavor. The focaccia bread at the start of the meal was also a big hit, warm, tasty, and perfect with the olive oil. It was my birthday, which made the night even better. Now I can handle some spice. I usually get 4-5 stars but the jalapeno mashed potatoes (bright green!) was so spicy to be almost inedible. Got used to it and finished them, but wow. The waitress was nice, but she did ask what the special occasion was and my wife told her my birthday. Dessert comes, no special mini dessert or anything and then the bill comes.... Two things that went through my head. 1st, why even ask the occasion if you're not going to make it any more special? 2nd. For the price you are paying, a small birthday dessert should be mandatory. Maybe she forgot, who knows. It's nice cause you can walk out mid dinner to take photos during sunset, overall decent but not great. This was a surprise visit and not really on the schedule to visit. However, it was the best restaurant we've visit, with scenic views and the probably the best wait staff I've had on the island. We sat next to the window on the ocean side and felt these tables provided the nicest views overall, but the sunset was still not truly visible from our seats. After dinner, we sat along a rock wall on the west side of the restaurant, and found a nice vantage point from this location. There were patio seats along the the outside of the restaurant but were for happy hour patrons only. If you dine here, always have the seafood, as it was fresh and delicious, as are many of the seafood restaurants in the Hawaiian Islands. read more

We were really looking forward to dining here because we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Merriman's in Maui (same chain ) I would say this paled a bit in comparison food- quality wise. Upscale, dining rooms, excellent service, but food was definitely not worth the bill. The view along the beach reminded us almost exactly of the beautiful beach view of Merrimans on Maui. Great wine menu, they do provide complementary bread before the meal I liked the garlic pieces that were smooshed into the top. I always appreciate when a fancy spot has a kids menu, and my kids chicken meal that came with Ulu mashed potatoes was actually pretty good. The salad we got was a bit sad and bland. I love having Mac crusted fish when I come to Hawaii- their version is tender and I like the light macadamia nut crusting on top, I just didn't feel like it was worth over $60 and I have had decent versions for $40+. We ended up getting the veggie pot pie because we didn't want to get multiple entrées over $60, and surprisingly it was actually really good. I liked that the crossed on top with thin and had a pastry like crisp and fluff to it and the veggies inside were really flavorful. The most expensive meal in Hawaii. Made a reservation for 5pm Saturday though Open Table, as there were no 530, 6pm, nor 630pm reservations for weeks ahead. The complimentary foccacia baked bread was a step down from previous years, flavor of dinner rolls The $18 smashed cucumber salad came with a ton of chopped mangos drenched in a pool of sesame sauce. Should have ordered the salad with sauce on the side, as the mangos alone would have given the salad plenty of flavor. Wife loved her $53 ahi tuna, expertly cooked seared on the outside and raw on the inside. My $53 macadamia crusted mahi mahi was on the small side at about 4 ounces, without much flavor until you mixed in the lemon celery caper relish. Serving size of both fish was on the small side compared to portions at Coconuts Fish Cafe or Paia Fish Market in Kihei on Maui, and at almost double the price of the Maui restaurants. 4% kitchen service fee added to bring final bill to $135.04 after tax but before tip. And we didn't order drinks nor dessert. Turned out that sunset was not until 620pm, hence all the openings at 5pm, but packed at 6pm. You're paying for the sunset view. Come 7pm or afterwards and you should get a discount, as no view at night read more
