Stopped in for an appetizer and cocktail prior to dinner! Bartender was the only one for all tables/bar seats...so service was a little slow as expected. Cocktail and beer we ordered were both delicious! We ordered a pretzel to snack on while we waited for our dinner reservation and it was very lack luster. Was very dry...no butter or anything. All the salt didn't stick to the pretzel and was at the bottom of the pan. And it took SO long for us to get the pretzel (roughly an hour or so). I would probably come back for drinks and maybe oysters (when I can afford them lol)! read more

The Barnacle - Giant Pretzel - Pubs Near Me - Bar Harbor, Maine

Beers, pretzels and oysters. What more can you need? Service was great even with one guy hustling, oysters were briny with an absolutely insane shallot mignonette and the pretzel with cheese was - cheesy. A great beer and a snack spot while also almost feeling like you're on a boat with the interior. read more

This was the most "normal" feeling bar we could find in Bar Harbor, aka not as much of a tourist-trap, and they had a nice selection of beer on tap as well as cocktails. We got some oysters and a pretzel - the pretzel was fantastic, I don't know how they make the cheese sauce, but I could have easily eaten two of them! The bartender confidently told us these were the best oysters around - they were probably the second best oysters we had in Maine, but they were by far the most expensive. It was a sticker shock compared to all of the other spots we tried in Maine which was surprising since it's more of a bar - probably taking advantage of tourists wanting to try an oyster for the first time. There's no escaping the Bar Harbor tourist mania, but it's one of the better scenes in town. read more

If I lived in Bar Harbor, I'd be a regular here. Good draft beer and wine on tap selections. It's got a good vibe and the bartender was aware of anyone needing anything - despite being the hardest working bartender I've ever seen. We were sitting at the bar when another patron spoke with the bartender and complimented him on his service and professionalism. The bartender is a great source for local restaurant recommendations too. Also a full liquor bar. While we didn't order food, the bartender was very excited about their local oysters. They seemed to sell a lot of them. We'll be back next time we're in Bar Harbor. read more

First of all, the oysters (blondes) are super fresh. The homemade mignonette sauce is extremely tasty. While walking through Bar Harbor and already having my fill of lobster, I wanted some oysters. I saw this place with the sign that says "oyster bar" and had to stop in. They had kombucha on tap which is an interesting touch. The only menu items available include oysters and a pretzel. This is not a dinner destination. It is an excellent snack, drink or after dinner place. They don't have diet soda. So that's weird but other than that it was a great experience! read more

The Barnacle - Oysters and an amazing mignonette ! - Pubs Near Me - Bar Harbor, Maine

The food is delicious, the tap beer cold and crisp and the vibe is mellow joy! Zanna (behind the bar) has a bright smile, is friendly and handles a crowd with aplomb. From opening a tap to shaking up a drink to bringing food to table, she's a charm! Will definitely be back for more oysters and good times (and that manchego panini was phenomenal!). read more

Best oysters I've ever had! The shallot sherry that came with it was perfect. I will warn you though, they are also probably the most expensive oysters I've ever had, but worth it! Lovely beer and liquor selection as well. This place is small, but it has such a coastal vibe and was the perfect place to enjoy the delicious oysters with a beer. I got there right when they opened and got a spot at the bar, but it also seems to get pretty lively at night. I love that they have a limited menu and do those things so well. The service was excellent too. read more

The Barnacle - Dozen raw with house made mignonette - Pubs Near Me - Bar Harbor, Maine

Let's face it The Barnacle is a breath of fresh air in a touristy town surrounded by t-shirt-hocking retailers and ice cream parlors. This place is small, but full of personality, great oysters, nice wine on tap, and local beer. Stopped in twice for oysters. They had Bar Harbor Blondes which matched perfectly with their Chenin Blanc. Love the maps, the style and individuality of their crew. I'd stop in anytime I'm in town. read more

The Barnacle - Pubs Near Me - Bar Harbor, Maine

I came here during my trip to Acadia/Bar Harbor during the third week of October. Many other places were already closed for the season, but the Barnacle was thankfully open. If there's one thing to get here, it's the oysters. It was apparently local to the area (don't know the exact name), but wow -- they were probably the best oysters that I've ever had. Still dreaming about those oysters. The mussel pot was good, but it wasn't out of the ordinary. I loved the bread that came with it. The clam chowder, while I enjoyed the flavor, was average; it could have used more clams. There was only one person tending bar and serving food/drinks, but I was still very happy and impressed with the service. He was very friendly and made sure that we got our table cleaned as soon as the party before us left, and got us our requests in a very timely manner. This place is definitely on the list whenever I go back to Bar Harbor. read more

Small intimate place. Good to wine down, as it seems to be be more of a mature crowd. Bartender was nice, definitely think this place could use another hand up front as it gets very crowded. Overall nice spot by the heart of the village center. read more

We came here for the oysters but since it was too early in the season (early June) the kitchen was still closed for reservation but the bartender, Cosmo, gave us several recs around the town to get oysters. They did have popcorn so you can snack while you drink. However, we started and ended our night here with cocktails (after taking a break to get oysters). The bartender and locals we met here became fast friends. The cocktails and vibes were immaculate. This is by far my favorite bar we visited in town. This is a 10/10 for me if you want a chance to chat with locals in the service industry and get a feel for what it's like to live in Bar Harbor as a local. read more

In a hot, way too crowded city on the day after Fourth of July in Bar Harbor, the Barnacle was much needed respite. An oasis amidst the tumult, we were greeted with good music, food,, libations and cool ambiance. The bartender was amazing - friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and easy to enjoy her company, she recommended some great spots - Thank you! When back in Bar Harbor, will certainly look to go back again. read more

We went to the barnacle for a quick drink and some apps. They had a small menu but we got the pretzel and a dozen oysters along with the nitro martini and a whaleboat ipa. The oysters tasted fresh and the pretzel was good even though the salt wasn't stuck to it. We weren't fans of the cheese that came with the pretzel. The martini tasted good and was strong. Service was good and the place looked clean. read more

I didn't eat here, but I did ask to use the bathroom whilst on a late night stroll. My family and I stopped by here for oysters, mussels, and beer before dinner. Tiny space inside, but they have a nice selection of beers and cocktails. Woo what a delicious meal. The big ass beer pretzel was warm and soft, and was perfect with our drinks. My blueberry cider was like a sparkling wine. The ghost pepper margarita was also pretty tasty if you like the limey spicy drinks. The lobster roll was warm and delicious on top of its perfectly buttered bun. The blonde oysters were a treat. The server was a great guy. The only thing I wouldn't get again was the clam chowder. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't special. They had outdoor seating for covid, service was great. read more

Barnacle doesn't do a lot but they do it incredibly well. One of a kind oysters harvested from two brothers who live on an adjacent island. The Mignonette was majestic, absolutely incredible. Then finished off with a home made pretzel, home made beer cheese, and plenty of cocktails and beer. That's the extent of offerings but everything is literally as good as it could be. The Barnacle - Mussels! Very flavorful, not enough broth in my opinion. But what was amazing and I wish I'd taken a photo were the oysters! - Pubs Near Me - Bar Harbor, Maine

Three massive picnic benches outside Bivalves for days Well-stocked bar (kombucha and nitro brew options if you're not drinking!) We needed nothing more than the Barnacle on our first night in Bar Harbor. We ordered a couple of glasses of white wine, a couple of dark n' stormies, clam chowder, oysters and steamed mussels. The oysters were amazing - the owner said he was only one of three companies in the area to receive the oysters - and I gotta say they were fantastic. Really nice texture and creamier than most atlantic oysters I've had. The mussels were great too and came with 4 pieces of bread - THAT is what I'm talking about (none of that one piece and having to ask for more). Head over for some ice cream after The Barnacle and call it a night so you can get tons of sleep before hiking Precipice the next morning read more
