We were searching up ice cream places on our way back for Oubache State Park to Indy...a search popped up with "The Barking Cow" ... and I was like what a fun name ... I've got to check this out. So, headed that way. When we arrived, we were greeted with a helpful and friendly vibe from the staff members behind the counter...along with the traditional ice cream shop aroma. As you look around...you'll begin to notice area nostalgic antiquities. This added a next level engagement, as we enjoyed our food and ice cream. Food-wise...we split the loaded nachos. Yummy!!!! I will say personally, I could have used a dab more of the pork...but, it was still tasty...as they were spot on with the amount if the other toppings. After that...we each got our own life cream and buy was it delicious! Definitely recommend and will return!! read more

Too much of a good thing. There was so much hot fudge in my sundae that I couldn't eat it. The ice cream to fudge/ cherry syrup/brownie ratio was wayyy off. It was so thick and rich with fudge and syrup that I couldn't finish it. There's was very little ice cream in the equation. I chalk some of this up to the staff not knowing how to make the dessert; they referred to their recipe book. They tried though! I would return but keep my order simple. My mate was happy with his PB and Reeces Peeces concoction. The building is nostalgic and fun. read more

Sadly they have changed this sandwich and I can no longer give it the praise of its predecessor. The spicy mayo sauce and cheaper cuts of meat were a huge downfall. I can't tell you how disappointed I was the last time I ordered this. I stand by the ice cream concoctions and will still support them, just bummed I can no longer enjoy what was once a superior club sandwich. read more

WOW! I cannot say enough positive things about The Barking Cow. My experience started outside the restaurant with all the cute signs and decorations. I went around 4 on a Friday, so right around when school got out and its very obvious that people around the town love this place. There were lots of people in the restaurant when we got there and after we finished placing our order the line was super long! The employees are attentive and extremely friendly. I ordered one scoop of a chocolate flavor (I forget the exact name) in a waffle cone and it was out of this world. The one scoop was plenty and made me extremely full. I tried a few others and they were all so good, it was hard to make a decision as to which one I wanted. It is very obvious they are committed to making high-quality ice cream flavors. Although I didn't try any of their food, many people in the restaurant had food that looked very pleasing. Overall, I recommend this place to anyone looking for some delicious, homemade ice cream, in a very cute, community-oriented location. There are many games and pictures to look at, which are very entertaining. I cannot wait to come back once I am back at school and try the food as well as different ice cream flavors they offer! The question is, to stop at The Barking Cow, or drive up the road to Ivanhoe's. Like much in life, there are no easy answers. They make their own ice cream here and I can report that the flavors are very good. The food seems to be typical Hoosier dairy barn fare (i.e., made in a crock pot), but that isn't to say it isn't good. They should put in some booths and more video games and make it a place to hang out. The space is good as is and has a lot of potential. read more

I stopped in here after lunch on a weekday and was very pleasantly greeted by the worker there. I was only looking for some ice cream, so I have nothing to say about the food as of now. I was able to try a few of their homemade flavors, which were very tasty. I ended up getting the lemon raspberry ice cream and also a peanut butter and chocolate one. The one with peanut butter in it had lots of chunks of peanut butter and had a very good flavor. The lemon raspberry one was easily my favorite! I love the cookie chunks in it and the great flavor from both fruits. Can't wait to come back and try more things here. read more

WOW, this place is a jewel. As soon as I walked into the door the small town hospitality was apparent. The staff was extremely polite and helpful when it came to picking one of the many amazing looking flavors. I ended up getting two scoops because I couldn't decide. I had "play dough" and "cow tippin". The play dough was a yellow version of cookie dough with colored cookie dough chunks! Taste amazing!! The cow tippin was vanilla with caramel and a bunch of extras that I can't remember. Regardless, both were great and the prices were easy on the wallet as well. This was our first time going and this review is for the ice cream only. The soft serve ice cream is really delicious and creamy! I had the peanut butter blitz and this is all my favorite flavors in one (peanut butter, Reese's pieces, vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff and a pb cookie and wafer). The peanut butter wafer was the best! My husband ordered a peanut butter shake, his came with a wafer too and he loved it. It's a cute little restaurant and we will definitely be back to try the food soon! Everyone in there was super nice and helpful. read more

I came here tonight for dinner and ice cream with two friends. Two of us had the submarine sandwich and one had the BBQ sandwich. The sandwiches were simple but tasty. The veggies on the sandwich were very fresh. I hate wilted lettuce and pale tomatoes. We got to sample several ice cream flavors. I ended up choosing coffee chocolate chip. Ice cream was creamy and very good. The only cons were they had no hot beverages. I would have really enjoyed a cup of coffee with my ice cream as it is November. Also, they only serve loaded potatoes on the weekend. As this place is relatively new, I look forward to some possible expansion of the food menu. Our experience couldn't have been better! From the atmosphere to the friendly employees and best of all the ice cream, we were pleased we made the drive despite numerous closer-to-home choices. Between us we tried the following ice cream flavors: Delaware County Pot Hole (chocolate ice cream with lots of delicious chunky chocolate candy), Banana Pudding, and Honey. Courtesy of the owner, we also had a taste of the in -development Wick's Sugar Cream Pie flavor (just like you hope it to be) and something with Heath bar I don't remember. Tip: ask which flavors are made in-house. A lot of thought and love goes into these flavors to make sure the natural taste and creaminess are all there. We will definitely return. This place is a hidden gem in Gaston! It was such a nice day out and I was craving some ice cream. This place makes their ice cream in house and lemme tell you, it shows! I got the baby scoop of their dirty banana ice cream and it was AMAZING!! The gentlemen working the cash register were very polite and helpful, my only compliant is that they lacked a sense of urgency so it took a little bit to have our order ready. Their ice cream definitely makes up for any mistakes. The decor is very Indiana-oriented and I learned a lot from reading their posters, lots of neat video games to play in the dining area as well (they do cost to play though)! read more

New addition to Muncie and was eager to try. The ice cream was definitely underwhelming, I'd much rather go to Yorktown and grab some Cammack Station. So, I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap expecting something a tad bit spicy was still edible and tasty. What I got was a wrap literally drowned in hot sauce, so much so that my tortilla was soggy and I just threw the food away. When inside not only did the cashier forget my drinks but my ice cream as well. Overall a very dysfunctional visit and I do think I will be returning to this establishment. read more

This is tied for #1 with Taylor Dairy in Elwood, IN as my favorite Icecream place for summer. The Key Lime Pie is to die for, but I have also had their plain vanilla with Hot Fudge and it is just very fresh and unique. They use cream from Indiana Dairy Cows and make it homemade. Prices are very reasonable! I highly recommend! read more

Everything tastes soooo good, everyone that works there is extremely kind and always with a smile, excellent customer service! The place is very cute and I love the outside area. I can see how they've been in business for 70 years. The customer service was exceptional and we got our order quickly. They definitely know how to make a real malt. It took me back to when I was a kid, very nostalgic atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
