Spotted BerryWinkle driving home from a game at Ball State - it's a really cute frozen yogurt shop (they're so hard to find these days!) where you serve yourself. There were a lot of yogurt flavor options and a million toppings to choose from. I liked that they had little recipe cards on the wall showing you how to make different treats by combining flavors. The interior was clean and the cashier was very friendly. I was expecting to pay a fortune for these, but we only ended up at about $10 for two small but fairly loaded fro-yos. We'll definitely be back the next time we're up in the area! read more

BerryWinkle offers frozen yogurt, gelato, and sorbet in a variety of flavors with lots of choice for toppings. Fruit, nuts, candy, sprinkles, even boba! Tonight I picked Southern Butter Pecan with cheesecake bites, pecans, and hot caramel. *Chef's Kiss* The store wasn't super clean. There was fruit on the floor and the toppings counter was a bit rough but it's hard to maintain with one person staffing the whole place. Super cute, self-serve frozen yogurt shop situated not far from IU Ball Hospital. I stopped in one warm afternoon because the sign out front advertised one of my favorite frozen treats, Dole pineapple whip. My first impression upon walking in was how clean this little shop was kept. An attendant was mopping the floor and gave me a warm greeting. As I looked around, I also noticed there are so many different flavors available! I spotted the whip I'd come for and grabbed a cup. You pay by weight here, so the cup size may be deceiving if you're an expert at filling it. However, a chalkboard sign notes that discounts available if you are a student or military/veteran. There are also some daily discount specials available, as well. A plethora of toppings are offered, if you should choose to adorn your creation. Being a whip purist, I chose to stick to the basics and headed to the counter where the attendant weighed my selection. I paid, grabbed a spoon and off I went. It was a nice day, and many of the colorful outdoor tables outside were occupied. One woman spoke to me as I left and we remarked on the uniqueness of the trash can outside (see pix). This is a really nice and refreshing yogurt place near campus. They have all the toppings you would expect. The facility is very clean. The outdoor eating area was very nice as well. Unfortunately, I had took a special needs kid that I work with in the Muncie area. We had stopped into the store on 1/13/23 after going to Escapades. Neither of us had been there before and thought it was something nice I could do for him. When we got there, I got his frozen yougurt for him and allowed him to get his own toppings. He had took the spoon from one of the toppings and the young lady was working began to raise her voice at him about me having to paid for the entire container that was on the toppings bar. I was fine with paying for it but did not like the fact that she had raised her voice to the point of other customers began to stare and a group of 4 college students ended up leaving after they had recorded the interaction. I would recommend, if you go here with younger kids or even someone individuals that suffer from "IDD", then I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

Berry Winkle is a fun little spot in Muncie with an impressive amount of fro-yo and toppings. There is plenty of non-dairy options like Italian ice flavors and sorbets. Fro-yo, gelato and custard for the dairy-favored! The set-up and toppings bar is bigger than most fro-yo places I've been too, I appreciate this and the amount of seating they have available. As well as the outdoor seating with umbrellas. The expresso gelato was my favorite! If it was for the treats alone I'd give a higher star but I was dismayed by the cobwebs in the corners, an accessible broken outlet cover, and lack of cleanliness in the bathroom. I hate pointing these things out but I also believe in honest reviews and perhaps this will be helpful for staff in the future. read more

I lived in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia for a while with a group of my friends. There is an awesome pay-by-weight yogurt chain there called Skinny Dip that all the locals love. We all fell in love with it while we were there, and talking about going back to VA to visit has always meant talking about going back to Skinny Dip. So imagine my surprise when I came back to Muncie to see a new pay-by-weight yogurt place in the old LJS building. I was skeptical at first, but after my first try, I'm pleasantly surprised. They have more machines than the average Skinny Dip location, but the flavors seem to be a little more "white bread" in terms of variety. The toppings, on the other hand are plentiful. The best part is that it's relatively cheap. At $0.42 an ounce, it beats skinny dip by about 30%. It's also a lot cheaper than the other yogurt place in town, Incredible Yogurt. In the end, it's a great place to go for a treat with friends, family, or your special someone. Not the best frozen yogurt place in the world, but it's a really good one. read more

I want to love this place, and before our last trip, I would have rated 5 stars. But I feel like this company is trying to rip you off on "no weigh" days. Their sign outside says they do that on Wednesdays, but we showed up on a Saturday. No biggie necessarily.... but we were expecting ours to be weighed, so I grabbed a bigger cup for all 4 of us. Three mediums and a large. None of us wanted to pile them high, we got an average amount in each cup. Mind you, the sizes are not THAT much different. They charge $4.89 for a small cup, $6.99 for a medium, and $8.99 for a large. We were there a few weeks earlier and for three of us, we paid less than $13 with 3 medium cups. This trip, with one extra person? $32. Are you kidding me? I will never go back. I wish I'd thought of it sooner, but I wish I had gone back over and grabbed 4 small cups and dumped what we had in them instead because there's no doubt in my mind that every single one of ours would have fit in a small cup. I just wanted to have extra room in the cups in case we decided to add more toppings. Maybe the deal would be worth it if you actually want to fill your entire cup. But it wasn't even advertised as a no weigh day. I'll be salty about this one for a while. Oh, and they didn't even have the flavor I wanted that was there just a few weeks prior, so I didn't even get what I was craving for at that price. Things go wrong, it happens, I know. But it added to the frustration for sure. Ask before you choose your cup size if it's a no weigh day. read more

This cute little frozen yogurt shop is a great place to stop in and get a sweet treat. The building is so cute with cotton candy pink and blue colors. Plenty of seating if it happens to be a busy time. Tons of flavors to choose from and mix n match with. What's super awesome is the amount of toppings! There's nothing you can think of that they don't have. Clean also! Now down to the taste! Why I give it 4 starts because it's good but not like the best frozen yogurt ever. On my recent honeymoon to Hawaii, I fell in love. Not with my wife, that happened years ago. With frozen yogurt. Specifically, Pinkberry. Nice, subtle fruity flavors. Fresh fruit toppings along with all the chocolate pieces you could imagine. I even looked for the nearest Pinkberry near me, alas its hours away. Come to find out, upon my return to Muncie I see a new place called Berry Winkle Frozen Yogurt. This place is very similar to pinkberry, with the biggest difference being self-service. At Berry Winkle you walk in, grab a cup, fill with yogurt(s) of your choice. Add toppings as desired. Weigh and pay. The reason I'm not giving Berry Winkle 5 stars in simple. If I wouldn't have read about this place in the local newspaper, I wouldn't have had a clue how it worked. As you walk in the sign says 42 cents an ounce. But there isn't anyone to greet you, ask questions to, etc. There are some details that would be nice to have explained to you. For instance, there are 14 flavors in 7 different machines. What I didn't realize until after I was eating, the middle lever on each machine will give you a mix of the flavors on either side. Not sure I would have used this feature anyway, but its good to know. And there isn't a darn thing in the place that would tell you that. The interior itself is inviting, bright blues and pinks, sparkling clean (which is surprising considering all the kids making their own concoctions). There are also 5 or 6 tables outside with umbrellas for when the weather warms up. Outside of the lack of greeting customers and giving some brief instruction, I love this place. Fourteen flavors, including a couple sugar-free choices. Some options include dark chocolate, white chocolate, Tahitian vanilla, Blueberry Tart, Pomegranate, B-Day Cake, Snickerdoodle Cookie, Mango, and on and on. So after you fill your cups up with yogurt you add toppings. They claim over 40, I didn't count. Its plenty. Fresh fruits: berries of most varieties, pineapple, kiwi. Nearly every chocolate candy I've seen: Kit Kat, Snickers, Twix, M&Ms, Reese's Pieces, and Andes Mints. Strawberry syrup, butterscotch, and hot fudge were among the gooey options. A weird oddities as well, marshmallows, sour gummi worms, gummi bears, candy corn. Not sure I'd put those on my yogurt, but to each his or her own. If I would have looked the toppings first and seen those Andes mints I would have definitely went for a chocolate mint on chocolate combination. Instead, I went with pomegranate with a fruit trio of strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple. The pineapple wasn't good. Definitely from a can. Maybe its the recent Hawaii trip, but I expect more from my pineapple. The berries and kiwi were good though. I took my stepdaughter who went with blueberry tart with chocolate chips, marshmallows, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and strawberry syrup. She may have snuck a few other things in there when I wasn't looking. She had a great time making her yogurt. We both had a great time eating our yogurt. The staff could be a bit more friendly, but since the place is so kid friendly maybe they were just tired of cleaning up after little tikes all day. The cups they provide are gigantic, each of us were probably had half-full cups and it was still more than enough. Total cost was just over 5 bucks. Not sure there is a better deal in town. read more

I am from California and loved the self serve frozen yogurt shops there. So I was thrilled when one opened here in Muncie. They have a variety of frozen yogurt flavors and a bunch of toppings. Pricing varies, dependent upon how much you put in your cup. They serve soda as well and have seating inside and out. My daughters love the little frog trash can outside. We normally LOVe coming here but today the new girl Abby tried to charge us $29 for 4 cups.... on no weigh Wednesday. Yes we did buy color changing cups so that upped price by $4. I told abby it's never more than $20 ($5x4) so did they up the price? She said NO that's always the price but then claims she's new and didn't know how to do rewards as well. I told her please get me someone else that can help. So another girl came to help meanwhile Abby is rolling her eyes and shaking her head.... I demanded a manager number to speak with someone. One of the reasons I enjoy BerryWinkle is because you prepare your own item and pay based on weight. Not being a "big eater" this allows me to serve an appropriate portion and pay according. July 20th I visited and paid for two items, a sm/med serving and a very tiny one. At the cash register the scale was missing so I asked where it was? Was told that they were running a "special" where any portion was a flat rate. Unfortunately their "special" ended up costing me double what it would have versus paying by the ounce. Didn't see any signage for the "special" and it wouldn't have influenced our portion sizes. Businesses need to keep all of their customers in mind because this special just took double my money, not less. Why not keep the scale and set a maximum price as your special! read more

I unfortunately couldn't give a lower rating. I've been here a time before and enjoyed the experience. This was the second and last time I will probably end up going there. Walking in it felt nice but when you get to the beaten up flavor labels and the missing selection of even the most common favorites like strawberry you kind wish they had more. The machines were not very clean and the candy bar was a mess. When I wen up to pay there was a group of 4 in front of me that all received a discount and a total of about $5 for the four of them. The lady at the register must have been a friend of theirs because she gave the honest opinion of saying she did not want to be there. Very inviting. When it came to me and my two friends our total rang up as $22. Between our half filled cups of ice cream and minimal toppings it made me wonder why it was so much since I had gotten the same amount before for less. Left me in aw to see how my small vanilla ice cream with some gummy bears on it rang up to be $7. I will just turn to the grocery store next time I want to get my next frozen treat. read more

Yogurt is delicious, but other business problems exist. The owners need to hire more help for the evening crowd. There were only two employees working, a cashier and a person replenishing the snack bar and cleaning off tables. They could not keep up with the volume of customers. The line to pay was long, although the cashier was efficient. I asked the cashier if she ever got a break, and she said not when there is only two of us working evenings. The other employee was constantly refilling the toppings, some of which I am sure she had to hand cut. Biggest issue was there was NO one watching the toppings bar to keep children and adults from "handling" the toppings. The Health Department would have a field day if they witnessed the amount of "bare hands" snacking going on before the product was paid for. If you don't like crowds, don't go in the evening. read more
