The cafe has a cute location next to Ruby's on E 33rd ave. The location is clean and modern, and the lady behind the counter was professional and friendly. I got there shortly after 7am on a Thursday, so I had a great selection to choose from. I tried the almond croissant ($7) and the pistachio one ($8.5). Their croissant is a third bigger than normal, and buttery and flakey, as expected in a croissant. Almond croissant is delicious. There's a thin layer of almond paste, and I think they could be little bit more generous with the almond paste given the croissant is so big. There were hardly any at the ends. Pistachio croissant looks better than it tastes. There's a fluffy sour cream butter sort of filling in the middle which didn't taste much like pistachio. I would prefer a solid pistachio paste or sprinkles of pistachio. I wanted to taste the pistachio and I wasn't getting it. I would try their chocolate croissant next time. So this place might be a hit or miss depending on what you order.

Even the cinnamon roll was made out of the same pastry which was a surprise! For the holiday croissant trees, we ranked them in order: 1) Naughty Strawberry, 2) Nice Pecan, 3) Merry Pistachio. We didn't care for the sprinkles but understood the visual appeal! They were easy to wipe off anyways. Took off stars for customer service. My experience wasn't very friendly and the staff didn't look too pleased to be there either. They made a big deal about their online prices being incorrect versus what it was in store, and charged me the higher amount (even though that's not my fault but the person that entered it). I was standing there for a couple of minutes before I had the ask them what the issue was. One guy couldn't figure it out so passed it on to another person and left without saying anything. The 2nd employee came in late (who later told me she was the manager of Ruby Good Shoes - Hasena), didn't initiate any greetings, but they were quick to badmouth another employee who didn't show up for their shift. To a customer - wow! She perked up when I inquired about her restaurant and told me to come back to try but having experience working in customer service & food service, I can't support talking poorly about your fellow coworkers. Changes your day. The selection changes based on what is coming back from the grocery stores day to day, but if you can't find something that works for your bakery needs at less than half the grocery store price, you're just not trying.

Quite a few options for bread and bakery items like prepackaged donuts. They have discount racks too that you can get even more of a discount on (just check Best By dates). I usually get sandwich bread, English muffins, and little snack muffins for my toddler here. With a place like this you might worry that the prices are lower because the quality is low but I've never once had a loaf from here go moldy prematurely (unlike some of the stuff I get at the store). I don't think they do free products and punch cards anymore like the older reviews mention, but this is still a great place to stop by to save a few dollars and stock up on bakery items.

Good pizza making class for total beginners. Less so if you own a different pizza oven than theirs…read more Took the "Backyard Pizza Affair: Cooking at 900 Degrees" class. Honestly it was just okay for us. I'd say it's worth it if you're a complete beginner at pizza making, but here's the catch: in the class they use the mini Gozney ovens, and we have the full-size Gozney Dome. Practicing on a different oven than the one we'd actually be using at home was a bit off-putting, since so much of pizza making is dialing in your specific setup. That said, I still learned plenty that carried over! It's a 4-hour hands-on class, and you get to mix the dough, practice stretching, and launch your own pizza. The instructor, Gage, really knows his stuff and he was great at explaining the why behind each step, not just the how. I walked away with genuinely useful skills like freezing the dough and shaping technique. It's about $148 a person. The nice touches help. You get a pastry before and a cookie at lunch, plus a detailed recipe packet (dough variations, freezing, mixer methods, the works). And Rebel Bread is a working bakery, so it's a fun space to be in. My other note: the class runs long, and I wish it had been a bit shorter and tighter. For someone who's never made pizza before, I think it'd be worth it. For us, already set up with our own oven, it was a nice experience but not essential.
