They aren't open the whole day so that's a bummer if you're going for a late lunch and sometimes they close early. That said the bagels are delicious and the bagel sandwiches are fab. My favorite is the pastrami Reuben on a garlic bagel. The dining area is super casual but the parking is limited. Prices are very reasonable right now. Love this bagel shop. Everything is fresh and delicious. I stopped in this morning and had a toasted sesame bagel. They were nice enough to let me pick two different cream cheeses. I got the dill pickle and the bacon cheddar jalapeño. Both were 10 out of 10. And so much cream cheese that I actually had to scrape some off and take it home. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here on a Saturday! I beat the breakfast rush so the speed of service was great, the price was on point and the bagels were really delicious! Tried olive cream cheese for the first time and I realllllly dug it. My companions all got bacon egg and cheeses with salt pepper ketchup (bec w/ spk) and they all really liked their orders as well. What happened to this once great place? I've been buying sandwiches from them several times per week for many years. Recently all their staff has changed. Looks like everyone. And their sandwiches which previously could be described as ample and delicious have been slimed down immensely/dramatically. Now they're nothing more than a smear on a good bagel. They're a little outside of the town of Red Hook, but so worth it. Their menu is extensive, they offer both breakfast, and a more hardy lunch option. The service is is quick and friendly, and their bagels amazing. I love their breakfast sandwiches especially. Great little shop to have a good meal! read more

This used to be one of my favorite bagel shops but they have gone down hill. The staff is often unfriendly and more concerned about talking to each other. Every time I get order a western omelette they mess it up. The last time I order it I got eggs with peppers and onion and no ham. I didn't return for a long time and decided to give this place a try again. Order the western omelette and got eggs with salsa. When I called the person who picked up was rude and told me, "well that's a western omelette." I spoke with someone else and was told that what they had given me was a Tex-mex omelette and not what I ordered. No option to refund over the phone. After driving 15 minutes there, picking up my incorrect order, and driving 15 minutes back the last thing I want to do is drive back and forth again. Will not be retuning to this place again. If tour looking for a great bagel and friendly staff just drive a little bit further to go to Rhinebeck bagels. read more

Not sure what happened to this place. Did it change ownership over the covid years? For years, this place was great, and the service had always been excellent. When I go in there now I feel like I am invisible - 4 people working the counter area talking to each other and I am just waiting for someone to acknowledge me and hand me an order that I placed by phone before arriving (and which is getting cold as I sit there waiting to be helped.) The bagels here are outstanding. I've moved away from Red Hook and was just craving some Bagel Shoppe. You truly don't know what you've got til it's gone. It is a no-nonsense sorta place; you help yourself to drinks in a cooler (many choices from odwalla juice to tropicana to nesquik) & when they run out of bagels, they are done for the day. I believe the Bagel Shoppe makes their own cream cheese blends (I would recommend the vegetable, it has real pieces of cucumber & tomato!), and I also think the bagels are boiled. They have a great crunch when toasted, are not tough or chewy at all, and all around are some of the best NY Style bagels I've ever had. The bagel flavors range from plain to sesame to garlic and onion to bialy to blueberry. There is a small seating area of a few tables, and the ladies will bring your bagel over to you on a paper plate if you don't want to take it to go. Well-prepared food but watch out for the upcharge!!! The menu stated mini-bagels are $0.60/ea and a side of bacon is listed under extras as $1.75. Order should've been $4.15 for 4 minis and a side of bacon, yet the total was $7.58?? When I asked they told me a side of bacon was actually $3 (not listed that way on menu) and minis are $1.25/ea to get cut & toasted. Not sure why it costs $0.65 each to cut & toast each $0.60 bagel, but that's not listed on the menu either, costs MORE than the bagel itself, and still doesn't correctly add-up to what I was charged. There was a line so I didn't want to stand there arguing but the menu prices felt a little like "bait & switch" to what's actually being charged so beware of the fees and bring some extra bills because this place only accepts cash!!! read more

I LOVE bagels. Seriously. I could live on bagels. And to be honest, I could eat bagels for every meal. Upstate New York does not know how to make bagels-it's one unfortunate fact of life around here. So if I'm craving a bagel, I go to the Bagel Shoppe. They're fluffy, filling and a great breakfast. Or lunch. I enjoy both of course. I stopped in this morning for bagels and cream cheese. The girl being the counter told me they do a bakers dozen on Sunday. I thought that meant you buy a dozen and get one free? Wrong, I was charged a dollar for every bagel. The flavored cream cheese is $10 a pound, that's just highway robbery and they weren't very flavorful. I did pay the price since I was there and didn't feel like driving to Kingston today. I can honestly say, I will NEVER recommend this business to anyone nor will I ever go there again. These bagels are pretty good compared to the sad selection of small, thin bagels seen here in the Hudson Valley. The flavor assortment is pretty good and the bagels themselves are larger and fluffier, which is great. I love that they offer a wide variety of cream cheese flavors, especially the fruity ones. The place is pretty classic bagel joint and it's got character. The bagels are, indeed, above average Hudson Valley bagels although not was above average. Prior to today's bagel(the one I just now ate at home), I had had a few bagels at this place before. It had just been too long since I had one last, that I'd ever had remembered enough for a review. I'll make this one short. Bagel was a little hard than most places, but the bagel didn't taste stale-y hard. And from past experiences and looking in their window when they weren't open, I could see plenty styles of bagel-bins(they carry plain, sesame, poppy, garlic, onion, salt, rye, cinnamon raisin, blueberry, pumpernickel, everything, egg onion, egg, and, for an additional fee, Asiago), so their bagels always were plentiful. My family went into this business for me(while they were open) and bought me one. Their varieties of cream cheeses are also plentiful(they carry not only plain and lowfat plain cream cheese, but they also carry homemade strawberry, honey almond, vanilla pecan, scallion, vegetable, lox, tomato basil, garlic-n-herb, lowfat garlic-n-dill, green olive, walnut and raisin, cucumber dill, cherry vanilla, bacon cheddar horseradish, bacon cheddar jalepeno, and roasted red pepper). Just amazing what varieties you can get out of this place. Their rich and creamy, something you don't get with those creamcheeses from most stores and Dunkin Donuts(and whatever bagel place you choose nationwide). But these aren't the only items you can buy at this place. You can also purchase items from their lunch specials menu(new yorker, BLT, pizza bagel, monte cristo, and many others), along with hard rolls and some flavored wraps(plain, whole wheat, garlic-n-herb), and omelets, along with some salads of assorted variety. Prices are a little steeper, but not by much. Although they have a small area in front that has a few tables, they do have another area(that isn't handicapped accessible, containing a short step(just one step then a tiny-short step to the floorboard). This second level of seating is always a popular place for most user's to sit. The only problem I find with this place, is their hours. Their hours seem like they close well after my job lets out, and open well after my job begins. They never seem to be open when I'm available, and since I'm not a morning person on the weekend, that one's out too. (And just remember, just around the corner, theirs a 6-screen movie theatre, but that's for another item here on Yelp.) read more

Well the noted yelper is back after a long hiatus of no reviews. Unfortunately, jk47, nick and I had to leave my girlfriend becky behind on this one. We ventured off on a rainy and gloomy Tuesday fiending for a meal that would entertain our appetite. Unsure of where we wanted to eat, nick avello himself suggested we set off into the unknown territory of red hook to find an eatery. After a mile or so drive into the town "the Bagel Shoppe" immediately caught the eye of everyone in the gang. We quickly decided that the establishment was just asking to satisfy our hunger and be reviewed. As we walked through the open door we were overwhelmed with a SWEET home like atmosphere. There was a plethora of customers flocking the register like white on rice, we could quickly sense this is a popular option in the red hook world. The interior of the establishment was complete with all wood floors and wood walls, making it feel as though we were standing inside of a warm log cabin. They had full breakfast and lunch menus featured behind their large display of bagels. Jk47 immediately decided on a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, nick decided on a philly cheese steak (more to come on this later) and I took a long time but finally decided on a steak sandwich on a bagel invention (special to the individual establishment). John and I both greatly enjoyed our sandwiches, but were left with a overwhelming feeling of wanting more. Heres where we really get to the heart of the review... It was quite odd how long nicks sandwich took to get out to him, as the minutes passed by we became more and more uneasy that something was off. After thirty minutes of waiting and nick going to the register TWICE to investigate we finally realized something... They forgot to put in his order!... REALLY?! A FORGOTTEN ORDER AT A BAGEL SHOP!? Anyway, once nick got his sandwich he absolutely devoured it from the built up hunger and actually said it had to be the best philly cheese steak he had ever purchased... But WAIT, as we were walking out, the cashier insisted that she simply needed to give nick a full refund! Nick walked away from our adventure with the best philly cheese steak of his life WHICH he didnt even purchase. It was 100 PERCENT on the house. Sadely, you've lost a frequent customer over a last minute "upcharge" at check out, order already and on the counter. A simple Bacon and Egg, no cheese. $4.21 as there was a $.050 upcharge when I was rung up to pay. I was told it was for the "cheese" on the Asiago Bagel I ordered my bacon and egg on??? Seriously?? Yet the price reflects no discount for the "bacon and egg" "no cheese"? I was obvioulsy set back by this and thank God the place was empty or I would have been embarrassed to boot as I had near exact change on me and had to empty out my wallet to have enough. Mortified! Hate to say, I "shop local" as much as I can but I will not stop here anymore if this is how they feel about $0.50 cents and a local patron. read more

We drove out on a Sunday morning for iced coffee from the big chain, but decided to try this small bagel shop after a friend suggested it. We ordered the bacon, cheddar, and jalapeno cream cheese on a garlic bagel and bacon, egg, and cheese on an onion bagel. Overall, we were satisfied. The bagel's are good, could be a bit bigger but this is coming from a city girl, I know my bagels. The cream cheese was what dreams are made of - bacon in a cream cheese, who could have known? The bacon, egg, and cheese was flavorful and the ingredients were of quality - cheddar cheese instead of American. It was hot, both were, prepared to order. The only downside was the lack of bagel variety at 2pm, but there was most likely a big Sunday morning post-church crowd around to gobble those up. Overall, this is a great spot in Red Hook for a fresh bagel not handed to you through a drive-thru window.
