The worst nail job I have ever received at a nail salon, ever. Wow, just speechless and not in a good way. I asked for a simple french ombre with glitter and somehow received a nail polish application that an 8 year old could have done better (Refer to attached pics). My nail tech (did not catch her name) spent a lot of time shaping and filing, nothing to criticized on the shaping. But other than that, everything else was horrible. After filing and shaping, she literally rushed the nail polish application. My friend that was with me was surprised I was done because she was sitting behind the nail tech and saw how she was doing my nails. She said it looked nowhere near done. Mind you, we were the first appointment of the day so it was not like they were rushing to leave. All in all, I won't be returning. read more

I truly cannot describe a better experience of getting your nails done! I came here after being consistently disappointed with my old salon, and not only was The Avenues Spa so attentive with prep--they were so fast!! I was in and out for a gel x refill in 45 minutes. The salon itself is very clean, and I appreciate that they didn't overbook so I wasn't waiting long at all. My gel x fill was $45 but $40 with cash. You cannot beat these prices in the city, and I will never go anywhere else! read more

Came for a mani and pedi walk in! The staff was such a vibe, they were very friendly and professional. I showed them pictures of what I wanted and I rarely had to ask to show the pictures. They did an exceptional job, very team work oriented as I had both my mani and pedi done. I had many friends recommend this spot to me, many who get very detailed designed nails that always look amazing! They do not disappoint. I would go back again just because their service was so good. read more

My friend and I decided to go get a manicure done after work yesterday because I had a lot of hang nails and Have not gotten one in a while . We arrived 20 min early our appointments but were taking care of right away . The workers are very nice , it was slow when we arrived but it soon got busy . A girl came in that had got her nails done on Monday to get one fixed because it chipped . They gladly fixed it no xtra charge applied . I got a regular nail polish manicure but by the time I got home my nails had chipped as well ! Idk if it is the base coat they use or it could have been the nail polish , as my friend's nails are still good and non chipped . I decided to look for the same color I got in my nails ,purchase it , and fix it myself . For this reason only although they are nice and I'm sure they would have fixed it for free as well , I would not be returning . Also please note I did dry them 20 minutes there and also avoided getting them wet . read more

I was quite impressed by this nail salon! My best friend and I stopped by on my birthday without any appointments. The staff was so nice to fit us in and we sat together in the massage chairs. They had a wide variety of colors (7 books for gel nails) and lots of different type of nail selection from regular, gel, and acrylic. I got a gel manicure and she got a gel pedicure. My nails were a little bit shorter than what I would have liked due to the nail tech shaping. I was still impressed because they did not start chipping until the 4th day. I will say that for the price of my nails ($30 for gel), which is an amazing price in the city! read more

Two nails broke in less than 4 days! This has never happened to me before. It is a common issue according to other reviews. So disappointing I'll have to make another trip out there to ask them to fix it. Waste of time and money, quality nail salons use better glue that doesn't break after a few days for $100 with tip. I will be asking them to remove my nails and give me a refund so I can go somewhere else. read more

They have 4 high quality massage chairs and 4 manicure stations. There is residential/street parking but it's limited. I luckily got a spot a block away. I gave them a heads up that my friend was going to be 30 min late to our appointment and they were not trippin about it. President's day wasn't a super busy day but they did get a constant stream of customers. I added on an eyebrow wax ($13) since I had to wait for her and took only about 5 min. Quick and it looks great. What I got done: CLASSIC EXPRESS PEDICURE $30 After my feet were in the water for about 2 min the nail tech started working on my cuticles. Another nail tech shaved off my gel fingernails then wrapped them in foil with acetone. I wish the massage was a bit longer than a minute but otherwise my nails turned out cute. I also had to walk from the massage chair to the manicure station barefoot as she took my sandals and other belongings over which was odd, but it was only like a 5 ft distance...still would've preferred putting my sandals on. THE ORANGE SPA MANICURE $40 (What's not in brackets is copied from their website) Warm bath prepared to soothe and relax your feet in the sea salt [Website update needed as your hands will be dipped in a small bowl of warm water which is what they mean as a bath.] Cuticles trimmed, gently shaped, and buffed [My nail tech went pretty hard on the sides of my fingers but the results were so pretty and precise with the shaping.] Thorough filing of calluses with a soap [I didn't have any calluses on my hands so this wasn't done] Exfoliating treatment with orange sugar scurb and hydrating mask. Warm towel wrap. Hot paraffin wax to soften skin. 10 minutes massage with lotion and aromatic oil. Finished with a polish of your choice [I got gel] Bathroom doubles as a storage closet and has a super cool looking hand dryer. Wish they had toilet seat covers. $125 in total and took an hour and a half for everything including repairing 3 of my nails. Appreciated the small talk with my nail tech and her attention to detail. Last note: They definitely aren't a money hungry business as she thought I was a young student and was worried I was spending too much on my nails lol. She asked if I had a special occasion and looked relieved when I confirmed it was a good reason to treat myself. read more

I have been Kim's customer for over ten years now and every visit i love that she has lived her standard to perfection. Over the ten years she has been very supportive to my obsession with my color changes nail polish choices by adding more and more color choices to 94 shades. I have gone to other nail salons however I always come back to her because by far she has the best selection of color changes nail color over others and superb nail job. First time going to The Avenues Spa this week. The technicians were extremely accommodating to my appointment schedule change. They were efficient, warm and welcoming, and very good. I was treated by Selena and Kim for a pedicure and dip manicure. Not only was the salon good, service fast & quality, price very reasonable, but Kim and Selena were also very good personalities to be around and it was a great experience. I will be back. read more

I have been going to Avenues Spa for about a year and it's amazing! I always get a dip manicure with Kim and I am never disappointed. Not only do the nails look amazing every time, but she's so quick! Other nail places take 1-2 hours but I'm out of the chair in 20-40 minutes! The nail salon is right near a bus stop, so it's incredibly accessible. It always looks clean inside and the music is great! read more

My go to spot for mani pedi's! The shop owners are the best! The sweetest couple with such an amazing team. The atmosphere is always light and happy. Kim is the best! She always does my dip nails. I do dip on the regular as it has stayed on my nails the longest with my job that includes a lot of hand washing/dishes/dogs/cleaning. I use to get acrylics with fun glitters and designs all the time and still do for special occasions. I always leave happy! read more

Back again to leave a review for these amazing ladies. Kim always has something new for me to try and the quality of her work along with the rest of her team is top tier. Even after all these years I've been coming to her for my nails and toes the quality remains high. They also treat me like family and truly care about their customers. It doesn't get much better than that. They have everything from regular polish to gel or hard gel and acrylic as well as various different ways to do designs. Unfortunately this place is a 2 for me. The owner and staff were super kind and friendly but they rushed my dip nail extensions, didn't touch my cuticles, didn't shape them well at all after showing a picture of what I wanted and explaining my desired shape, didn't clean the residual dip product from under my nails when finished. This is after I had come in with a vision and color I wanted and they couldn't help me at all so I changed my nails to my basic go to option and it still wasn't great. When finished, I had small dents and marks on some of my nails and on a nude nail??? Very noticeable!! Overall it was sloppy with a lack of attention to detail. This is the second time I have come here and been extremely disappointed. I will say that my friends have had some good experiences here but sadly I haven't and for the price, I expect attention to detail, handling my nails and cuticles with care and solid creativity. Unfortunately I just don't think me and this place are a good match but I support others trying it out and wishing you good results. I also don't think I will be getting dip again given this experience. read more

I went in last night to get my nails done for my wedding and these may be the worst nails I have ever gotten. I called earlier in the week to make appointments for me and my bridesmaids but when we got there at 6pm, the salon was completely full. By the time they could service the 3 of us, it was close to their closing time and although the nail techs were nice, I felt like they rushed through our nails in order to get us out if there as fast as possible. On top of that, their website boasts a wedding discount that I did not receive. Not only are my nails lumpy and the shape is incredibly weird (and not what I asked for even after telling her I wanted them thinner), but less than half a day later one of my nails chipped. THESE ARE MY WEDDING NAILS . I am now not in town to have them fix the issue so I have to pay to go to another nail salon to fix this. This is not only a waste of money but a waste of time. The last thing I should be worried about is my nails. Will not be returning to this salon. read more

I've been coming to this nail salon for 3 years now and i will never go anywhere else! All the women here are talented and do a great job. Kim, the owner, always accommodates for me and is great at what she does. The atmosphere is cute and everyone is so friendly. They work extremely hard and want all their customers to leave happy! Called a week ahead and got an appointment here for my partner and myself as an afternoon date idea. When we got in they took my partner back but I didn't get seated until my partner was basically finished. I ended up not getting my nails done since I didn't want to have my partner wait for me. It's always such a pleasure to go the Avenue Spa, despite the long stressful year Kim remembered me as soon as I walked in. I got my pedicure and gel manicure done today and I've always done some type of design on my nails to be original and finding nail salon that go with my originality has been hard trust me (some would argue with me over the color I want saying another color would be better). I have my spot now for the next years to come Kim is amazing for design and listens to what I want. She does a very precise job I just love my nails. I've been coming here now for a couple years and Kim is the best! I switched from another local spot I went to for a decade but their manicures didn't last. I've been doing Dip with Kim ever since. She's lovely, available when I like to come in and has lots of colors and style options. Everyone is kind and enjoyable and their work is great! My Dip manicures last over 2 weeks and pedicures a month. Highly recommend. read more

The absolute love coming here, I have followed them from all the different locations in the city and the have never been disappointed. The front desk lady Daria is amazing, she has the best customer service and she is so professional and friendly. I get my nails done by Masha and may nails are pure perfection every single time. She is the QUEEN of shaping and my cuticles are always seamlessly. This is definitely my forever favorite nail salon. read more

Don't come here. They are really rude. My nails were all different sizes and I asked the lady to fix them. She gave me attitude and said no. I asked for coffin and got square. Very rude and not worth the price. Save your money and time and go elsewhere. read more

Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Possibly the best bathhouse in the Bay Area…read more Kabuki Springs is tucked away off a busy street in Japantown and feels like a portal to another dimension, one full of warm water, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of lemon ginger tea. I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.

Two things that I can't ignore and hope management reads this. 1. There is room for improvement on the locker room getting so crowded. 2. Do NOT trust the sandals. They are plastic and incredibly slippery when wet. Since they are not sized to the individual, it's dangerous. I slipped out of my sandals and fell down the stairs in the large Russian Sauna. This resulted in multiple abrasions and a large laceration on my forearm and I actually got stitches for the first time. Sandals have to be fixed, there's stairs everywhere here. The people in the sauna were super nice and helped me, luckily, I'm pretty fit, but it could've been really really bad. Credit to the staff for not charging me for my time there, honestly, I would've rather paid and left uninjured. I'm not 100% sure that I would return, it just happened today so maybe in time that will change.

My husband said Rafael did what he could but unfortunately did not get most of his knots out. When he got home, I massaged his back and was surprised with the amount of knots he still had. It was as if he never got his deep tissue massage. I'm deeply saddened because my husband still ended up paying out of pocket (expensive massage) and he did not feel relaxed after. On top of that, my husband sends me pictures of the locker room that was under construction and said guys were going on and out while he was changing. Very disappointing experience compared to the many other massage spots in SF.

I do wish there was changing rooms in the women's space (and I assume the men's don't have one either) because while you need to be comfortable being naked in a Japanese onsen, it was a little intimidating to be around others and having to strip to change. During your booking time, you're in a group with probably 6-7 other couples so your experience is what the entire group makes it and I was happy the people we were with weren't obnoxious in anyway. The cold plunge is more of a cold shower, the steam room is a bit small and standing next to the radiator can hurt, the steam room is a great size. After the onsen experience, we had our dinner and we thought the menu wouldn't keep us full but it actually kept us content and we left with a smile on our face.

I have been going to this spa for a few years and have had consistently excellent experiences. I have tried every wet treatment , scrub and combo along with a variety of dry room massage services. The first time I had a scrub I was a little shocked at how effective it was. While the exfoliating technique is between medium and intense, the results are undeniable. The basic scrub is 30 minutes but I highly recommend going for the body scrub acupressure 90 minutes service. Having tried all the spas in the area I can say with confidence that the water temperatures at Imperial are the most reliable. The hot tub is perfectly scorching and the cold dip is perfectly icy, almost unbearable, as it should be. They offer hot and cold water, sometimes have tea. They have a really nice selection of hair dryers to use on the way out, Dyson style. I prefer to go during the week when it's slow but I have also found that during the busiest of times here, the staff does a great job of enforcing the rules of silence. Overall I have enjoyed every single experience here. I can't post pictures because it's not allowed to take photos inside, but the facility is clean, inviting and enjoyable.

The facilities are a bit tight--the parking lot only has five spots, and the steam and sauna rooms only fit about 4-5 people at a time. The men's and women's areas are separate, which is nice, but the shoe lockers don't actually lock (though you do get a bracelet for your main locker). A few quirks: the water cups are so tiny they are like shot glasses, and they leave the massage room doors open during the session. I think I'll try Kabuki Spa next time to compare.
