-- A Golden Retriever's Review of The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse…read more 10/10. Would sniff again. My hoomans took me to The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse, and I must say, they really understand what matters to a dog. First of all, there's a nice outside deck where dogs are welcome, and it comes with a beautiful sniff of the bay. I spent a considerable amount of time conducting important scientific research with my nose. My hoomans ordered a burger that smelled absolutely AMAZING. They also got a stew with yummy-smelling meat in it. Naturally, I stared at them intensely in case they suddenly remembered that I am an important member of the family and should receive a sample. They did not. I was disappointed, but I remained professional. The food smelled great, the deck was perfect, the bay was sniffable, and my hoomans seemed very happy. Personally, I think the place would be even better if they offered a Golden Retriever tasting menu. Final rating: 5 out of 5 paws. Would visit again. Would sniff everything. Would absolutely judge my hoomans for not sharing the stew.

One of the best things about The Old Triangle is that it is a decent walk from the cruise ships…read more During the fall, lots of tourists descend on Sydney. We walked 20 minutes before we discovered The Old Triangle as other pubs had lines out the door that were adjacent to the port. What a delight! The live entertainment in the middle of the day was exceptional. Authentic Irish music with some covers of classics. Very talented musician with a double necked guitar. Funny as well. Very friendly. Service was a bit slow because they were overwhelmed with tourists. Now, it was only about 50% full, but I'm sure out of season, it would be very well handled. We'd be regulars if we lived locally. Walk the extra few minutes and make your way to The Old Triangle. And stay awhile...

I had been to the old location a few times, but only tried their new one in the Sydney River plaza…read moreon an overcast, cool Saturday in July for lunch after 1pm. The place was mostly empty with tons of tables and booths, and capacity for well over 100. Typical sports bar atmosphere with one of Don's framed jackets hanging in the entrance way, TVs, other memorabilia such as a crazy, giant helmet on the wall, some natural lighting coming in, but relatively basic overall. Friendly staff. My mother tried their Mexican Dip (cream cheese & salsa served hot with nacho & pita triangles) which wasn't bad, had a decent flavor. I don't see prices on their online menu though. I tried their potato skins minus the bacon, which come in jacket/full 'boat' form, which I actually prefer over the sliced pieces of potato. They were as basic as can be, but fine, no complaints. 2nd visit: supper on Heritage Day (Feb 2018). My parents and I drove into Sydney from Sydney River to go to Montana's, but the lineup was pretty long, then the same as Swiss Chalet. We drove back to Sydney River to see if Ziggy's was open, it was not, and so we settled on Cherry's, knowing we like it, but just nothing special. It wasn't busy at all, with maybe ten or a dozen tables taken out of the many more. Pretty fast service. I tried the chicken fajita wrap with peppers, onion, cheese, salsa, sour cream, which was good and what you'd expect. Side garden salad instead of fries was just your typical salad. My mother tried the 2 pc fish & chips, and she is not a big eater normally, so took one filet to go, because the portion was quite large. My father had a burger (the Great White North by looks of the online menu?) and it looked and apparently was fine, not bad, not special. No prices on their online menu so not sure what we paid. When I'm visiting Sydney again, there's nothing that would bring me back here on my own, but there's nothing against it if someone else wanted to go there.

Holy crap, the single worst steak in my whole life. Ordered it medium rare, received it cooked like…read morea sole of a shoe. Took one bite and that was enough - I didn't even eat it. At least they took 50%. Paid my bill and then went to another restaurant to buy dinner a second time. The waitress was polite.
