breakfast hash
Rachelle B.

I'd never heard of this place until a friend mentioned it recently in Halifax, so when I was visiting Cape Breton for the Thanksgiving weekend, I wanted to give it a try. I called someone that lives in Glace Bay to see if she wanted to try it with me, and she had been there before too, and seems to know the very friendly staff and regular customers. lol We arrived about 9am on a cloudy Sunday and the place was about half full. I'd say it has seating for about 30 or 40? Several booths and tables, just in a small house-style property, simple but nice decor, kind of cosy. I was most impressed with the variety on the menu. For breakfast, you often see just a few basic selections, but I had trouble deciding what to order here. Ended up going with the hash (which I don't see on their online menu at the moment), so forget how much it was. It was very good and filling, full of mushrooms, peppers, bacon, cheese, onion, home fries, topped with an egg or two and side of toast. I will definitely be back here!

Excellent fish and chips and hot turkey sandwich! Although the chocolate eruption/explosion cheesecake is bought in, I still love it!

Too much bread, very little flavour, fries were decent, coleslaw was good - lobster poutine: excellent. cheesy, good chunks of lobster and a good portion - 8oz fish and chips: good. Portion smaller than expected, breading was light, fries were good, coleslaw was good - hamburger: average. Meat patty was average, not that juicy. Coleslaw and fries were good - mussels white wine and garlic: below average. Small portion, didn't taste the garlic flavour, had lots of sand and not much meat. When the waitress asked how my dish was, I have an honest answer and said it was only ok. She asked if she could bring me something else and I said it wasn't necessary but Lisa came back with a cup of fish chowder. Now that's customer service! The chowder was excellent, very tasty - lobster for 2 (forgot to take a picture): lobster was excellent. Good presentation, 2 lobsters (1-1.25lbs each) was fresh with lots of meat and one even had lobster eggs & garlic butter dipping sauce was excellent. Seafood chowder was delicious. Potatoes were good. Corn was average, not very sweet. Coleslaw was delicious, mussels were average. -lemon meringue pie: average. Small individual portion, lemon was good, merengue was ok, crust tasted burnt and bitter. -chairs are comfortable, lots of table space, great view inside or on the patio -good place for a quick bite

We chose this restaurant based on the location of our hotel, keep in mind there aren't many options around. I think this was also the reason this restaurant was busy! The grilled scallop burger was the best dish of the night! The seafood platter was mediocre, nothing special. It had calamari, fries, shrimp, oysters, and haddock... maybe more? I can't recall. The clam chowder was not it. It wasn't creamy like the clam chowder I'm used to and was the worst dish of the night. The biscuit was okay, not buttery enough in my opinion. The lobster roll was mediocre. It was my first time trying lobster rolls and my expectations were way higher as many people love them! I'm not sure if it's because there wasn't enough sauce or the sauce just wasn't that tasty. We also subbed the fries for a caesar salad and were charged the price of an extra caesar salad ($9) rather than just an added substitute price. The milkshakes were great! The vanilla milkshake tasted like french vanilla ice cream and the strawberry milkshake was also really good. A bit small for the price. Overall, wouldn't visit again. The view is great though!

Great find! Beautiful views and good food at good prices. Nice service and family-owned an't be…read morebeat.

Fantastic Place!! Think: Hot, steamy, crusty giant pancake!…read more 1. Don't let the word "pannekoek" distract you - when I ordered I asked for gluten free and the cook (CHEF) said he made gluten free pancakes (Pannekoek is a fancy word for more pancake than crepe) that were really good - and he was RIGHT! I had already had breakfast and I saw one of these - ordered it and took it with me. It was MAGNIFICIENT. I had it plain with powdered sugar and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I tore chunks of the steaming sweet dough and ate it in bite-size chunks as we drove with windows down with chilly wind wafting through. Oh, my friends got regular (not gluten free) waffles that they said were terrrific! 2. Don't let their web site photos influence you - the food is a thousand times better than the photos look! 3. Here is the reason we stopped. Our B&B gave us coupons for breakfast and we could use the coupon here or at The Clucking Hen. We wanted to check the places out so we stopped at the Dancing Moose and it was closed at the time. We peeked through the window and the cook (CHEF) saw us, unlocked the door, came out and said they were not open yet but "Do you need the ladies room? You are welcome to use it." Now, WHO is that nice these days? We didn't but we promised to come back so we did. We were the winners in that decision! 4. If you like, try this place. We had a great time and the food was wonderful! We went back and we will go back every time we go to Cabot Trail which will be frequent as we have visitors who come and want to see the Cabot Trail!
