This pub is one of the closest eateries to the cruise port in Sydney. We stopped here for lunch after spending the morning walking around town. Indoor, outdoor patio and rooftop seating available. We enjoyed steamed mussels, a smoked meat sandwich & soup, and a donair. Everything was sooo good & flavorful. Pricing was reasonable and service was great as well. Short walk from the Sydney cruise port, this restaurant has great views from the top floor outdoor patio. We arrived right when they opened and were seated upstairs. It took a little while for our server to come over but he was friendly and helpful once he did. We had to try the Donair, poutine, and fish and chips. The fish and chips and poutine were solid but nothing exceptional. The Donair however was quite a pleasant surprise. We were told it was like a Canadian gyro but with a sweeter yogurt sauce and that seemed to be an accurate description although it wasn't too sweet. Prices were reasonable for quantity and quality considering it's kind of in a touristy spot. Definitely worth a try. read more

Stopped here while at port. Restaurant has an accessible ramp but no inside seating if you cannot walk up the stairs. There is patio seating and the day was cool enough to sit outside with your coat on. We are on a cruise and had a nice couple offer to allow us to join their table. They had a bowl of seafood chowder and a hamburger with poutine. Since they were there first, their food came before we order. The woman with the soup said it tasted good but very salty. Based on her assessment of the soup, I ordered mussels and my mom ordered lobster poutine. She requested the hollandaise sauce on the side. When her food arrived I quickly notice the lack of lobster. Thinking it was hidden under the cheese curds, I checked with the waiter and she realized she left it off. She told my mom to start in the fries and she'd bring the lobster. However the restaurant was quite busy and when she returned the fries were cold. Trying to make the best of it, my mom asked if she could just bring warm butter to eat the warm lobster on its own. Again, she was quite busy and when she returned the lobster and butter were both cold. Whomp whomp whomp! My mussels were ok and in white wine but it looked to have more of a cream base and lacked the traditional white wine and garlic flavor. The first vibe we got from this restaurant is, unwelcoming and gloomy. The staff who took us to our table clearly made us feel unwelcome. The interior aesthetic and lighting is gloomy and dark, uncomfortable for a good dining experience. We had BBQ beef brisket, quite dry and blunt. Ate here when the cruise made a stop in Sydney. When we were wandering around town, we asked for recommendations on where to eat and they recommended Governor's. When we got to the restaurant there was a line, but they managed to get everyone in and seated without a long wait. Service was really slow. I felt it took forever before the server came over to take our ordered. My friend and I again decided to order the mussels and fish and chips and split it. Compared to how long it took for the server to take our order, the food came out quickly but it took forever when we asked for tartar sauce for our fish and chips. My friend noticed a bottle of malt vinegar on a another table and grabbed it while we were waiting for the tartar sauce. The fish and chips were good and we were using the garlic bread to soak up the liquid from the steamed mussels. Probably the best part of eating at the Governor's was the Irish duo that was playing while we were eating our lunch. If I am every in Sydney, I'd eat at the Governor's again. read more

Started off with the lobster wontons in chili sauce and regular poutine. Both very good. Lobster thankfully was real lobster not imitation. Delicious! My wife had the cranberry spinach salad with maple balsamic vinegar and said it was soo good. I had the smoked meat sandwich which could've used a little more meat but was still very delicious. Definitely recommend eating here but when the cruise ships are in it gets really busy and service slows down which is why not 5 stars. read more

We had lunch the seafood chowder the soup tasted sour. It was not the traditional chowder. It was loaded with dill. The biscuits looked fantastic but were dry definitely stale. Visiting Sydney yesterday n found Governors pub. Nice restaurant on the Sydney waterfront. We were on a waitlist so strolled around n saw the big fiddle. Rustic restaurant kinda like an old Victorian house. Friendly staff. We were seated upstairs and there was a live band. Had the CB salad , small spinach salad, French onion soup n the seafood chowder. The salads were really good n fresh. The soups too good. We also tried the lobster roll, Mac n cheese, fish n chips n wings. The lobster roll was great, not a big roll n had generous amounts of lobster n tasted so good. The fish n chips had 3-4 fried haddock n tasted good. The wings were tasty too n so was the mac n cheese. We topped it off w apple crisp, rum cake n crème brûlée. Oh the rum cake was out of this world. So good. It's not usual to have it on menu. Apple crisp was great too. The crème brûlée was so so. I don't drink but the rest of my family enjoyed the beers. My plate, the crusted haddock, garlic mashed potatoes and (frozen) veggies, was terribly bland and dry. So disappointing. Had high hopes for this place because of how much it's been frequented, so I'm guessing it's because there aren't a whole lot of restaurant choices in the area on a Monday night that are open or just in general. Just tried to eat at this restaurant in Sydney Nova Scotia. I ordered the Pub steak for 26 dollars plus the three for the mushrooms. Also ordered the garlic roasted potatoes. Could not eat or even cut the potatoes with a steak knife. Hard as a rock. The steak I ordered was supposed to be med rare. The steak came out after an hour and a half well done. Not impressed. My wife ordered the steak sandwich.The bread was hard and the steak was tough. However the wine was good and the waitress gave us a discount. The place was packed so we can understand the wait, but no excuse for the quality of the food. Will not go back and do not recommend. read more

Shore visit to this cute town that had lots more going for it than Saguenay! After our group of 14 wandered the local shops and visitor center, we made our way back to this restaurant that we saw early on. It was drizzling heavily and the restaurant staff was hustling to dry the outdoor tables and open up umbrellas to prepare for the wet lunch crowd. Luckily we were able to score indoor dining since we decided to break up to smaller tables. Service was prompt and 3 of us at our table of 4 ordered the lobster roll and I ordered fried calamari and a bowl of fish chowder to split with my husband. We liked our lobster roll and my husband liked his half more than I liked mine because he got the bulk of the lobster filling. I do not understand why this restaurant is only rated 3 1/2 star because it should be at least 4 1/2 star and I'm giving it a five star because it was literally the best spinach salad I think I've ever had and the dressing was a homemade maple balsamic that was outstanding and we had the mussels and the wine sauce was so good we ordered more bread to be able to sop it up and then take the last remains home and our dogs will adore us. We came last night with our dogs and sat outside downstairs on the patio and listened to a little bit of music before we had to leave and just had a beer and we came back tonight to listen to some Gaelic music and have a bite to eat while waiting for the music to start And when I saw a couple of desserts go by that looked outstanding I had to ask the couple which one they liked the best. Let's start with the good. The waitstaff were friendly and quick. The view is pretty great. The beer selection is also pretty great. If that's all you're looking for, great! If you want food...less so. We ordered nachos and the fried chicken sandwich figuring that's core pubgrub and is near impossible to mess up. Well, these folks achieved the impossible. The cheese on the nachos was not entirely melted as if it had been microwaved. The salsa with the nachos was as close to marinara sauce as you can get. Overall they made nachos super bland somehow. The chicken sandwich was a bit of a travesty also. Pretty sure it went straight from the store bought freezer pack and into the fryer until absolutely obliterated. It's like katsu had a nightmare and it became real. Typical tourist spot laziness when making food. If you got a good view you don't need to try. read more

Your draught, upstairs at least, is flat. No visible bubbles rising. The Keith's was flat. Bud lite was cloudy, not cold enough, tasted completely off. Wings were good.
