Service person (Souhaya) had a scowl on her face; it was not that busy. Unfortunately, tipping here was automatic at 12.5%. I would not have tipped her....she will have a bigger scowl on her face...hahahaha. Anyhow, the ambiance is very American; a diner complete with a car banquette seating. Bbq chicken wings were really good and flavorful. Burger sucked and not worth its £6 price. Halloumi cheese was mediocre not worth £5 for 3 small rectangular pieces. I would come back for the bbq wings.

First - the wait staff…read more There is a service charge tacked onto your bill automatically, but you still have to order yourself online (the ordering process is a bit tedious - with a sometimes failing web form ) Then you need to walk to the counter and pay there, as there is no way to pay for your meal online either (or - as would be expected - pay for it AFTER you finished it). The place does not accept American Express. But then, the food is also rather lackluster. With lemonade being sickeningly sweet and having an odd, chemical flavor. The Budweiser Prohibition Brew we ordered was replaced with Budweiser Zero - a much poorer alternative. The food is edible and we did not get sick after eating it, but it is on the more expensive side, given the quality. In particular, everything was very greasy - which is not always a bad thing with a diner, but here it was not great. My steak - ordered medium-rare, came medium/well-done which I had to ask to be replaced. It did get replaced with a (nearly) properly cooked (more solidly medium, not rarer) one. I wish it was 14 oz ribeye I paid for, not a thin 8 oz, though. The meat was tasty, a bit lacking the flavor, and the bone was large - not worth the price. The fries were good. The place is halal certified. So the bacon you will get is chicken-based. The environment is very "movie 1950s" - unlike the true diners, but also lacking the atmosphere of the 50s. It would be very enjoyable for its ambiance, if not for the fact, that the place is filled with families with young kids, and as such gets kindergarten loud at times. I had high hopes, but I did not get a satisfactory meal. I did not have a great experience, and I did not get a bargain. On the other hand, it was not dreadful and perhaps I would come back again, with friends, later in the evening, as I enjoyed the tacky decor. If only they served beer or wine to go with the meal...

Nowadays we appreciate and build those bikes for the nostalgia and esthetic they bring to the table. The same can be said about Ace, it doesn't forget where it came from. The establishment feels as close as it would have back when it was originally operating. There's even a juke box in there (not sure if it works), but I doubt people still place bets if you can get to the next café before the song is over playing hahaha. The food is pretty decent, but I can only attest to the "quick bites" portion of the menu since I wasn't too hungry. I ordered the tuna sandwich with an iced coffee. They don't go well together, but I had to have coffee there! How can I go to ace café and not drink any of their coffee?! That's like saying you went to San Francisco and didn't visit the golden gate bridge. People were very kind and fun to converse with. No matter where you are the biker community is always friendly and that's what I can say about this place and their customers. They also host bike nights and events. I only wish that I could attend with a bike, but since they're stuck in the states I don't imagine that will happen any time soon. Ultimately I'm extremely happy I was able to go to the place that started café racers because those bikes are what got me into riding in the first place. I never would have thought I'd be able to visit, so you should too if you can!!

We got chatting to loads of bikers outside and one girl enthusiastically jumped on her bike to pose for me when she saw I had my camera with me. The Ace Cafe is THE motorcycle venue in London. The great thing about the Ace cafe is it's open 24 hours so when you are cruising about on your bike late at night you can always call in here for a coffee and meet some kindred spirits. The Ace Cafe website has a great archive of black and white photographs from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, which i love looking at. It's all about rock and roll and bikes really.

While the other reviewers experienced slow and poor customer service, this was not our experience. However, we were the only people in the restaurant so I would have been shocked if we hadn't had the waiters full attention. The atmosphere is classy, but in a hotel sort of way. The restaurant has high ceilings with massive chandeliers, while the rest of the place is decorated in a red and cream Asian fusion scheme. I've only given this place four stars due to the food. Our breakfast here was pretty average, but was acceptable. I've had better food as egg Benedict should be something that every respectable restaurant can do really well. However, the sauce was pretty weak and wasn't as rich as I like it. Overall, we enjoyed our morning here and would come again. This venue, if not staying at the Hilton or visiting the arena, is slightly far away from the tube station as its about a 20 minute walk and tucked away down a side street. It's not worth venturing out of your way, but if convenient than its not a bad spot.

The owners claim dedication to the dying tradition of afternoon tea and they certainly have gone all out to maintain that unique British flavour that so many generic coffee shops have almost wiped out in London. Every detail, from the elegant crockery, the ornate homemade cakes and the rosy faced waitress, perfectly recreate a time when a nice cup of tea and a civilized chat was enough to fill an afternoon. Indeed, the atmosphere was so effective I wished I was going home to listen to the gramophone in front of a log fire. After worrying about the possible effects of drinking so much tea I left, content with the world and happy in the knowledge that there are still corners of London devoted to being a little bit British.

Decor is sweet and cutesy - not the kind of thing you'd expect would appeal to Harrow public schoolboys, but we did see a few. The muesli I had wasn't as exciting as it sounded on the menu and I was still hungry after but I loved the cakes we had as 'dessert'. The others mostly had fry-ups which looked pretty standard to me (shop-bought hashbrowns and sausages) but it was all presented beautifully. I'd almost definitely come back and buy some more cake (but probs not brunch). There was a funny moment when I dropped a ginseng tablet on a plate of brownies by the till and everyone looked suitably horrified til I explained what it was. The waitress took it well tho ;)
