For many years this was a fantastic restaurant worthy of 5 stars; a real hidden gem in NM. But now a new chef and new management have made it a real disappointment. It is now pretentious and overpriced. $5.00 for a cup of coffee!! Menu favorites are no longer prepared the same as they used to be. The food used to be flavorful and well presented. Now it is is uninspired. Also the service was very poor requiring unhappy looking waitstaff to be flagged down for a refill of water or tea. Go to Ojo Caliente for the spa but bring your own food or go try one of the nearby restaurants. That's what I'll do next time. read more

This place has really taken a slide in the past year. We had both breakfast and dinner. I am not sure how exactly you make a tasteless breakfast burrito, but they succeeded. Far too many hash browns stuffed in there, and a few small pieces of bacon. Very bland green chile sauce too - in the heart of New Mexico. Dinner, they have eliminated their barbecued artichoke appetizer. Caprese salad was very strange - nice cherry tomato varieties, but no lettuce, only mint. Fajitas overly cooked and messy - no sour cream, cheese or other setup provided. Smallish portions, high prices. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the world - people would come here from all over. What the heck happened? read more

I was so disappointed in the service at this Ojo farm to table restaurant. Yesika was very slow and did not explain the menu very well. We laughed at her service it was so bad. Craig was out right terrible. After he took our plates I asked for our bill, 15 minuets later he walked in and out of the kitchen several times, and never brought out our check. So we left, but when he realized, another 15 minuets later, he came down the hotel hall panicking. I was disappointed in the quality of food here. We read several reviews saying it was one of the best restaurants in New Mexico. The relleño was tasteless but spicy. We got three penny sized goat cheese dollops on our plate. Then we woke up in the middle of the night having to use the bathroom. Now I know why the hotel smelled the way it did. read more

Appetizers were pretty good (an order of mussels w toast, and an order of rare Ahi tuna w noodles). Filet Mignon was a B, but the organic roasted fingerling potatoes were amazing. Beef fajitas were a B, as well. The Tres Leches cake for dessert was nice and dense-- quite flavorful. A pretty nice wine list. Service was a B/B+, as well. This is not a fabulous restaurant (kind of hit and miss, as it often IS excellent), but also not terribly overly priced either. The wine bar is small and quiet, with appetizers, wine, and beer. read more

I keep trying this place when we go to soak and sadly, it's Always mediocre. Way over priced for the quality....doesn't feel like vibrant food, which is crazy cause they have their own garden. It's mainstream, uninspired and lifeless. Food reflects the people and environment by which it's created. read more

We love Ojo Caliente because of the waters. However, the biggest plus is the restaurant. Last year we ate in the wine bar and enjoyed appetizers and wine. Our experience motivate d us to make reservations this year. I had the piñon glazed trout after the wonderful spinach salad. My husband had the enchilada plate with the fried egg on top- both excellent! Oh-and we had the Mexican pot stickers- black beans, goat cheese and sour cream! Excellent. Service was slow but with great Malbec to drink, worth it!! Breakfast was a special treat! Picture a roasted poblano pepper seeded and split half and half on a bed of green chile and red sauce . On top of the pepper were two links of bison sausage topped with scrambled eggs and cheese! Fabulous! And, I think it was the best coffee around!! Without the Artesian, I doubt we would stay at ojo caliente for more than a few hours! read more

The best meal I had in a long time. The salmon was perfect and the tuna great. Try the tortilla soup and roasted artichokes as an app. The service was wonderful. read more

Service was excellent and the food (especially the dinner menu) was sublime. We came a very long way to experience the beautiful landscape and nearby hot springs (1 night booked at the infamous resort next door); it was an added bonus that this restaurant was here and it truly completed our visit. The setting is gorgeous, a variety of sage plants and arid gardens are scattered about at the front of the restaurant giving the venue a very authentic cottage garden feel. It truly is a little gem and the wine and cocktail selection is very good too. Thank you for making our trip so special! read more

Oh my goodness. After much research, we made reservations for the Artesian for our last evening in New Mexico - planning a wonderful couple of hours at the Ojo Caliente hot springs, then a visit to see some cave art, then back to clean up and have one of the best meals I've enjoyed this year. The restaurant is beautiful - the building is an historic treasure updated tastefully. Everything about dinner was special. Our waiter was talented and helped us decide among the many delicious-sounding dishes. The artichoke was a wonder - we savored every leaf. The salads were masterful - crafted from fresh, local ingredients with the perfect balance of textures and tastes. And the entrees were of the quality that the first bites caused us to close our eyes, set down our forks, inhale, and chew slowly. The next bite had to be shared. Both the trout and the scallops were perfectly seasoned and cooked, and were accompanied by greens and starches that set them off very well. We couldn't stop there. We knew desert would be amazing, so we ordered chocolate truffles and decaf. It was a peaceful, gracious, luxurious dining experience - memorable. read more

Love the pablano 'fries'! Rest of the menu is good, not great. Atmosphere is comfortable and wait staff is attentive. Good overall experience. read more

Well... for one the service was not good. Second... they charge $9 for literally 1-2 oz of mediocre guac. Enough said. Everything else was between good and mediocre. Pack a picnic if you are going to Ojo Caliente to soak. read more

I recently spent two nights at the resort and ate in the restaurant each evening, in addition to one lunch and one breakfast. The food is absolutely the best! The steak is fantastic and cooked to perfection. The pork belly is so tender you can cut it with the fork. The Green Chili Fries are a MUST! Blacked Mahi Mahi Tacos for lunch are scrumptious and the blue corn pinion nuts pancakes with bananas on the last day for breakfast were the best! But to save the best for last...... the vanilla bean creme brûlée is to die for!! I had it twice and could have easily ordered it every time I ate at the restaurant, lucky for my waist line, they don't have it for breakfast! The salads are also unbelievable since the restaurant has it's own little garden on the premises and serves fresh veggies and greens that are as fresh as they can be. The morning coffee, which is served at the wine bar if you just want to take a cup to your room, is some of the best coffee I ever tasted, and believe me, I am a coffeeholic! About the staff, everybody was super friendly and helpful when I asked for extra lemons or something like that. One evening the service was a little slow, but the restaurant was packed and since the food is freshly prepared it is well worth the wait. Reservations for dinner are a must, in my opinion. The atmosphere is very relaxed, just like you would expect from a spa. Also loved the back ground music at the restaurant and would have bought a CD had it been available. Overall, the Artesian Restaurant is a true gem!! read more

We were sight seeing the area and ate here because the recommended restaurant in area was closed on Monday. Service was mediocre at best. Food was disappointing. I ordered the chili rellanos stuffed with roasted veggies. I like spice but this was so spicy I couldn't taste anything but hot. The chili was surrounded in red sauce...no bread or tortillas offered for this or the pasta dish my partner ordered. Finally caught waiter. Bread had an up charge. Fyi... read more

The Artesian was extremely disappointing. My fiancée and I had dinner here on a Saturday night when we were staying at the resort. We ordered grilled artichokes and the green chile "fries" as appetizers, and shared beef fajitas, vegetable chile rellano, and fish tacos as entrees (I know that sounds like a lot, but we heard the portions were small - and they were). The appetizers were nothing spectacular and the entrees were extremely bland. I'm from Texas and have had beef fajitas at more places than I can count, and these were some of the worst. The small amount of beef that did come on the platter was flavorless, plus the fajitas weren't even served with rice. I just now asked my fiancée if she wanted to add anything to the review and she said it was the worst chile rellano she's ever had. Granted, she can exaggerate sometimes, but this gives you and idea of just how bad the food was. Unfortunately, Ojo Caliente knows that you don't have any other dining options when staying at the property, so they don't make much effort to impress with their food. Giving it two stars instead of one only because the service was below average but not awful and the food wasn't atrociously overpriced. read more

We have eaten at the Artesian Restaurant 5 times over a span of 3 or 4 years while visiting Ojo Caliente and staying in the historic hotel. We love the springs, and enjoy the ambiance of the old hotel. We love to sit on the porch sipping a cup of coffee or a glass of wine while watching the swallows nesting in the rafters. But the restaurant. Why do we never learn?! We have never had a good meal there, but still we keep coming back. Maybe it's because of the convenience; maybe we keep thinking they'll improve. Never again. I should mention that I am vegetarian and my husband, while not vegetarian, does not eat beef or pork. The Artesian's menu is definitely not vegetarian friendly, offering only one vegetarian dinner entree, the spinach enchiladas with green chile. I ordered them, and my husband had the chicken enchiladas. We both found our meals bland to the point of being tasteless, and we could not finish them. I mean, how do you make tasteless green chile?! Our server was slow and forgetful, and disappeared altogether midway through the meal. After a lengthy wait another server showed up with our check. On previous visits we've had no better luck. For breakfast we've been served blue corn pancakes that were literally burned black on the bottom without apology. And the prices are ridiculous considering the quality of the food. We won't be eating there again. read more

We were very disappointed on a recent visit . Restaurant was excellent a few years ago . The red chile on the huevos rancheros was poor. The potato gnocchi was advertised as an entree and was served as a salad . The detail is poor and not representative of authentic New Mexican cuisine . My wife even offered to help teach the new chef how to make authentic red chili sauce . read more

Pompous server who said at the beginning of breakfast: "What can I get you besides coffee?" Neither of us drink coffee. He went on to scoff at me when I paused when he asked how I wanted the eggs cooked on the huevos rancheros. It was just a weird experience, with bathrobe-wearing new agers alongside couples who had clearly just had a night of romance behind them. Everyone was glassy eyed and weird acting. Onto the food: The breakfast burrito was just a big glorified bunch of breakfast potatoes in a tortilla (bleh), and the huevos was unnecessarily spicy and salsa'd without the flavor. Avoid eating at this overpriced place. Go up to Red Mountain cafe instead. Note: We LOVED the mineral springs but would recommend that you avoid the restaurant. They know they have a captive audience. read more

We ate dinner, dessert and breakfast. The pork belly carnitas were good, although a little fattier than I like. Nice flavors. The chef was very nice to subsitute corn for flour tortillas. Enchiladas were good too although the menu did not say there would be black beans in them in addition to the chicken that we ordered....my partner is alllergic to beans. We don't usually expect beans in an enchilada. The desserts were excellent. We had the pecan caramel bar(pecan pie)with vanilla ice cream. Sweet but delicious. The chocolate cigar was AMAZING. We loved the flavors and the idea but we have to say that the presentation in a cigar ashtray was a bit cumbersome to try to eat from. The staff was professional and pleasant. We had the blue corn and pinon pancakes and the huevos rancheros for breakfast. Both were home runs, although my potatoes were cold on my huevos plate. We would eat here again in a heartbeat. They do have some potential for improvement but we did enjoy the food and staff. read more

We stayed at the hot.springs and this.was the only place to eat within walking distance. We were on our mini honeymoon so this fit the bill. The ambiance in the restaurant is really nice for a romantic setting. The table we were seated at was a bit wobbly so we asked to move and they changed up our seating with no problem considering it was pretty busy that.evening. I ordered the green Chile crusted salmon which tasted better than it looked. When it came out all I saw was my salmon with a pile of something not so appetizing looking and that ended up being the green Chile crust. Tasted amazing but presentation was a bit lacking. Hubby ordered medium filet which was came out more well done . We are not usually picky eaters but he wasn't enjoying the steak the same as if was cooked more to medium so we sent it back :-( this time it was cooked perfectly, however the meat was a bit nervy. Overall great service and experience, just didn't enjoy the.steak as much. Oh forgot to mention we.absolutely enjoyed the green Chile fries a must.try! read more

We ordered the cheese pizza ($12, 10-in) and artesian salad ($10, entree size) to split. The salad came with the dressing on it even though we asked for it on the side; there wasn't a ton of it and it was good, eh, OK. The salad was fresh and just enough toppings. The pizza had noticeable oil gathered on top. The crust was very unique, crispy and flaky with cornmeal in it (or on it, either way noticeable). Ultimately, I decided that I was a big fan of the crust. The crust was a means to convey cheese, lots and lots of gooey cheese. I guess there was pesto on it by the green dollops on top and oil, but it and any sauce (I recall some red stuff, I think) was lost in the cheese. Not that this is a bad thing, but would give more points for a more balanced pie. We got the caramel pecan square ($8) for dessert; it was very tasty and beautifully presented. It was rich like a pecan pie, but had less filling and more crust; the ball of ice cream lightened it up. Yum. read more

We enjoyed lunch at this restaurant. Beef and bison burgers were very good. Prompt, professional service. Nice, light filled space.

Never disappoints. I recommend the Green Chili Fries which are strips of mild Green Chilis lightly breaded and fried and served with a sauce. I also love the grilled artichoke. Coffee is excellent here and is free before 9am for guests. The menu is quite expensive, but you can find things to eat for under $15. It caters to people who want something really special and to someone who just wants a sandwich. Vegetarian and gluten free friendly as well. read more

Ew. Plate a) Edible, but not flavorful and tasted soggy. Plate b) Not what it seemed like it would be from the description and menu. Couldn't finish it in the restaurant or the next day as leftovers (and we like most types of food). Staff=our waiter was extremely hard to communicate with as he didn't seem to understand what I was saying/didn't seem to speak English very well. I had to ask him each question and give him each order 2-3 times for him to understand me. He wasn't very attentive/didn't ask how things were or if we needed anything and was kind of put off by us. That said, there was a support waiter who seemed to be serving the other side of the room who noticed our water glasses had been empty for quite a while and who refilled them for us. Price=ridiculously expensive for food and service that was extremely unsatisfactory. The following meal we went down the road a mile to a little place on the side of the road and got food that was actually yummy for about a fourth of the price. read more

Delicious pasta. So fresh! Lives up to its reputation for sure! Looking forward to our next meal tomorrow!

Stopped in after a nice soak at their mineral springs..... had there sweet potatoe ginger soup ...delicious. ...salmon salad. ...outstanding. ....they sever these little blue corn muffins ....quite tasty read more

Artesian was a big surprise. The first time we ate there we sat in the Wine Bar at a high top. We were immediately impressed by the range of clientele and attire - from spa robes to cocktail dress to cowboy. The specials board promised -- and delivered -- perfectly delicious Cakebread Chardonnay for $9 a glass. The food was absolutely PERFECT. We had the Chile Rellenos, which were a significant improvement on your everyday Mexican restaurant versions of the same. The restaurant uses ingredients from the adjacent farm, and it is evident in the quality of the food. The next day I had a pasta dish in the restaurant, which I rarely do, and I can still remember the taste. This is one place I highly recommend and hope to visit again. read more

My allergy friendly dinner was so fantastically good that I wrote it down in my phone to remember what it was!! I had a roasted vegetable chile relleno with a quinoa tamale. Red sauce, goat cheese, practically licked my plate. Beautiful presentation, good service, lovely meal. read more

The bartender, kind of a skinny little dude, was so rude that we decided against having drinks while we waited to be seated at the restaurant. Then, fearing the rest of our dining experience would be similar to our failed attempt to order drinks, we decided not to eat there, and instead bought sandwiches from the little gift shop by the front desk. At least the young man (tall, beard) at the register was polite. Something tells me he's used to spa guests, annoyed by the snobbery of the restaurant, opting to buy whatever he has left in his fridge. We scratched our breakfast plans at the restaurant as well, and bought yogurts from the gift shop. :/. The gift shop food was over-priced but well worth the peace of mind in not succumbing to being treated rudely under the guise of "fine dining." read more

I am giving this 1 star due to the service (lack of) and the discrimination we received from our waiter. We arrived an hour prior to close and our waiter (an older gentlemen with grayish hair, tall, and a little heavy set) greeted Me while My wife was in the bathroom with a "are you ready and do you know what she would like?" I'm pretty sure I am not at a McDonald's drive thru. I thought this was supposed to be fine dining and upscale. He didn't recommend anything at all nor mention the specials. He neglected our table where I had to bother him for some more water. He is the most inconsiderate, rude, and cold waiter I've ever experienced. When our entrées arrived, instead of checking in with us at least 2 minutes after to see if there is anything else we need to fully enjoy our meal, he didn't return until My last 2 bites. I, Myself am a private gourmet chef in Dallas and own/ operate a bed and breakfast and he treated us like our kind wasn't welcomed and therefore was going to make this an in and out thing. I dine for inspiration for My own business and I've never ever left a 15% tip to anyone including restaurants that may be hole in the walls, in fact the wait staff for such restaurants typically receive 25% tips due to their service. Service in making us feel like guest's in their home. We will never come back to this restaurant ever again. The food however, was subpar for their prices, however, I suppose that comes with the mark up on being in the resort. read more

The service was terrible!!! Our dinner took over two hours and not by our choice, the service was that bad. The portions were good but small so not very filling and very expensive. We made reservations which they didn't account for because they gave our table away and we were seated forty minutes late. The bar was neglectful of anyone not seated which sucked for the pack of people wanting a drink while they waited for their table. The waiters apparently can't count because they brought us three bread roles for a table of four. The same thing happened again when we asked for lemons for our waters. When we had breakfast here we ordered coffee which is suppose to include refills but we didn't even get offered one refill. My friend was severely disappointed with their huevos rancheros. She said they were made completely wrong her tortilla was soaked and the sauce was wrong. She said it was terrible and lacked flavor, completely now how it should be served. It looked like a round enchilada. The service was not any better in the am, when they weren't busy. If you stay at the resort bring snacks, this experience dampered our trip. read more

So, I've been here many times and have never had a bad meal...until this most recent visit. On the positive side, the Sake drinks were Great! But, as a single traveler, I found the service to be pretty bad. Not sure if it's because I was dining alone or what but everyone around me was served before me, even though I had arrived before several diners. Seems like only the female wait staff was friendly and accomodating. The male servers, with the exception of the bussers and one server, were very indifferent. I always order the grilled artichoke and this time, it was cold and chewy, was it left over from the night before? That's what it tasted like. Chips/Salsa/Guac. was good. The combo Fajitas weren't cooked to order and the shrimp was very tough. The tortillas turned cold/hard after a few minutes. It was pretty disappointing plus it's very expensive. They have their own garden, so it's not like they're shipping in all of their ingredients, they just have to hike up the hill to pick a few veg. $34 for an entree is too expensive for most folks who come here. I love the spa here and will be back, hopefully they will resolve the issues with the cooking. Was it a new Chef? read more
