If you are looking for those things, you may want to stay elsewhere. ANYONE who wrote one of those reviews as a negative, CLEARLY missed the point of this place. It is a beautiful inn built in 1907....AGAIN 1907!!!! It has been tastefully updated as much as possible to keep the rustic charm/feeling that you definitely want when you stay at an inn such as this. A private room with a private bathroom is a must ! Our stay was amazing and we cannot wait to return. *The only negative* The staff were not personable and seemed disconnected. The shower situation is too open. There was a clear glass shower door and a curtain that has openings you can see through. There are two stalls, a sink and a shower. If you lock the main bathroom door, then you're keeping anyone from using the restroom at all. If you leave the main door unlocked while showering, guys will come in and leave the main door open. The main door opens directly into the hall way.

We were here in the winter time so the gardens were dead but you could tell come springtime and summer it would be an amazing place to spend some time outdoors. The room was super nice and the cottage hosts were very friendly and nice to deal with. The only thing I would caution you on is to not barge into the area where it says Entrance. That lead you into a porch like area with a second door that leads inside to what might be the hosts residence. When we went to open the second door we were met with strong verbal cues to stop and sign the guest book. It was as if they didn't want us to enter any further. Come to find out this may have been there personal residence. The breakfast was amazing too. We had the raspberry clafouti and was super delicious. It's not something we would have ordered on our own but when we tasted it we couldn't get enough. The rooms came with almost everything you would need to include a corkscrew a couple of wine glasses a refrigerator microwave coffee etc. I would highly recommend this place. Jerry and Joanne were very friendly and informative hosts. They are very familiar with the island (both geographically and history) as well. I told the host that I'd really want to see bald eagle in a close distance if I may. Jerry told me all I need is to go the Double Bluff beach and pointed out exactly where I can see them. Wow!!! and yes, I do see the eagle couple in a close distance that day!! My room is beautifully decorated. A large window and very comfy chaise draw me very close to all the tall trees. From time to time, I saw plenty of birds kind of like flying next to me. Very cool. It is a forest setting room. I especially draw into all the paintings and drawings in the inn. There's a cabinet displaying some native american tools / arts as well. In room cable TV (and DVD), you have your own bathroom. The best of all, homemade delicious full breakfast (I dislike continental breakfast if I am in BnB, why do BnB if it is not for enjoying a good breakfast, right?). The location of this inn is good too, it is not sitting right in the the downtown (noisy) but just a minute away. Very convenient to go out enjoy lunch and dinner and then come back in the forest to rest. Oh, Jerry also knows about gold mining ... ask him where to find gold in the island when you visit there (wink wink!) And I forgot to add about the trails. This time I didn't do it because it rained pretty badly over the week, but for those love to explore the nature, check it out!

This bed and breakfast made our experience very special. Stayed in the garden suite and it was wonderful. Breakfast every morning was so good! The wildlife is amazing! Everyday we saw a set of deer with a mom deer and 2 twin babies, very sweet watching these animals while at breakfast. I wi) be back over and over again! I would book this plenty of time in advance because it's so wonderful they book up fast. It's worth the wait to have this fantastic experience! They lost a lot of points because of no one on site in the middle of the night to deal with a noise problem. Two nights in a row we were awakened at 2 in the morning when the guest below us turned their TV on so loud that we could clearly hear the dialog of the show and commercials. This lasted until 5 in the morning when they turned it off. Sure, occasionally you'll run into an inconsiderate guest. The next night, the same thing happened. I finally had enough at 4 in the morning and went to find the room and complain. When I knocked and knocked, no answer. I asked a woman in the lobby if the room was hers and she finally said it was but refused to turn the TV down. I used the phone in the lobby to contact the manager for late check ins, yet it didn't connect me with anyone.

This is a big deal to someone suseptible to strong odors. The quality furniture, pictures and TV with tons of cable stations are a huge bonus. Absolutely spotless without even a discoloration mark on the grout in the bathroom. The carpet was clean, too. The staff are warm and friendly and we were surprised to have bagels and muffins at check out. All of this with the low price tag makes it a real bargain!

FORGET the old reviews, under the new owners this is a quiet gem tucked away in an unlikely spot - next to a storage rental place, but that is a plus - it is off the busy road and nice and quiet. The Arlington is beautiful. Unlike similarly-priced hotels like the Hilton Express (and the super-crappy LaQuinta) in Marysville, this a luxurious, gorgeous hotel, with dark wood paneling and brass fittings, a beautiful entry in the middle of two water feature coy ponds, a relaxing and well-decorated lounge, and really good management, under General Manager, Lema. Use your GPS to find the turn - if you pass a storage unit business you just missed it. It is part of a larger building with offices first, keep going about 50 feet and you will be in the drop off area. We good a King bed corner room, and the first thing that made me happy -well, the second, because the first was true concierge check-in by Lema) were the TWO marble-topped vanities, both with hair dryers! One in the room, and one in the roomy bathroom. Well lit, and no fighting for a mirror when you are getting ready to go to an event, like a concert at Tulalip. (BTW there is a shuttle to the casino and back, up to 2 a.m.) The squeaky-clean room had all the amenities - A modern Visio TV screen, an upholstered chair to relax in with a standing linen lamp to read and relax by, a desk (marble top) and a dresser (I hate not having a dresser, even for an overnight stay) a mini fridge and easy to use coffee maker/water heater. The creamy taupe shades made a lovely ambient light, the bed was comfy, with plenty of pillows and extra bedding in a drawer; closet had a double mirror, ironing board and iron, and the hotel soaps were nice. Everything in the room worked. Plenty of water pressure, the switches and plug-ins, the remote, and heating and cooling. That seems like it should be a given, but so many badly run hotels do so poorly checking these things. I should note that we did not have a reservation, so they didn't check it last-minute, it was ready. I DO recommend reservations though, this sweetheart hotel won't be a secret long. The pool was open and clean, with a whirlpool next to it. Not huge, but not crowded with clean dressing rooms and towels. I went down in the morning and splashed around with some kids that were there with their folks, which was fun. The exercise room was not elaborate, but again clean and the machines worked. The breakfast fare was pretty standard but plenty of choices - coffee, tea, pastrys, fruit, four kinds of cereal, yogurt... The hot breakfast offered scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage -all well cooked and warm little pancakes and syrup...I don't remember everything except that the woman running it was as nice and accomodating as she could be, and kept things stocked. If you are going to Marysville and want a way nicer than standard cookie cutter hotel experience, this is the place. Note: Don't mix it up with the Arlington Motel, and you might find old reviews under Wyndam Gardens. Ignore those. But don't tell everybody - you will want a room available if you decide on a last minute night out at the Casino. BTW the restaurant is not open, and probably won't be, which is fine. It is hard to keep a restaurant going, but you may see old reviews that talk about it. It helps keep the rooms affordable.

Everything from start to finish with this place was just absolutely magical. The owners were in constant communication with us - email at first and then via text to answer any questions we could have possibly had. They were prompt, courteous, and worked with us to make sure that our reservation was perfect. We stayed in the cottage. Let me tell you, it was a miniature paradise for the two of us. The Cottage: The cottage is extremely cozy. There are large windows in the main area offering spectacular views of the property and the island. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've found myself in in a very long time. There is a fireplace heater in the living room, a provided space heater for the bedroom, and a very efficient wall heater for the bathroom. Our whole stay was warm and cozy. Beyond that, the kitchen is fully equipped, there's a washer/dryer in unit, a tub, shower, and plenty of extra bedding/blankets/towels/etc. The small things: Awaiting us upon our arrival was a sign welcoming us with our names on it as well as champagne glasses and sparkling cider (it was new years). Additionally there was some granola and 2 gallons of fresh water provided just in case you're not comfortable drinking/using the double filtered well water. The owners also gave us their number should we need anything extra (including additional water/etc.). They were even kind enough to leave us some handpicked flowers from Pike Place during our stay. The Island/Property: WOW! The property itself sprawls behind and in front of the cottage offering ample opportunity to explore. Beyond that, it's only a nice 30 minute walk to Maxwelton Beach which offers spectacular views. There's still a ton more to do on the island that we hope to get to next trip. In simple summary: This place is absolutely amazing. Don't hesitate, book now!

The wall of windows at the back of the great room is so hight, you can stand and view over the tops of the 70-80-foot fur trees that line the backyard, with its breath-taking views of the bay and Mt. Baker in the distance. The kitchen is wonderful with a huge granite island, and huge. We loved the master bedroom with its SleepNumber bed. Three fireplaces, an office, a study, kitchen, dining room, master suite with large walk-in clots connected to the laundry room, magnificent great room and entry--and that's just downstairs. Another king bedroom with balcony, queen bedroom and bath await up the staircase. Beautiful wood floors and ceilings, back patio with fire-pit, hot tub... starting to get the idea? Words don't do this place justice. Just sit on the back patio, take in the beautiful landscapping, watch soaring eagles, or the Victoria Clipper from your back yard. After greeting us warmly at the door, Mrs. Bronson sat us down in the parlor for tea and a chat about our plans for the trip. She also listed off a mind-boggling number of options for our two breakfasts; we settled on applecakes with cinnamon and waffles with real cherries jubilee, if you can believe it. The food was delicious, served in formal courses on beautiful china and crystal. The house itself is a literal treasure trove, spilling over with the Bronsons' international collections of books, knickknacks, furniture and sundries. The overall effect is somewhere between a Studio Ghibli film and the set of "Practical Magic". It's very understandable that they can't host small children! For older guests, though, it's difficult to pry yourself out of the building to see the other sights on the island. We enjoyed viewing antique photographs on a Victorian-era stereoscope and listening to a music box with swappable punched-metal discs, and spent a pleasant evening sipping port and playing chess in the upstairs parlor, feeling very posh. Between the delightful host and hostess, the wonderful food, and the completely unique furnishings, our time at the Compass Rose was unforgettable. We'll definitely be staying here again.
