a plate of food on a table

For dinner, we ate in the courtyard area outdoors. The ambiance was very nice, and the weather held up as well. For appetizers I would highly recommend both the foie gras and the cheese plate. I love foie gras and will order it whenever I see it on the menu, but it's not for everyone. The cheese plate came with 5 different cheeses, a berry compote and honeycomb. It's fun to sample and try each one. For my main course, this was the second time I ordered trout on this trip, and I was not disappointed. I thought that this restaurant prepared the trout the best. The fish was cooked perfectly and was moist, but not underdone. I loved the smoked roe on top which added a nice flavor as well.

I feel lucky to have dined here tonight before this restaurant closes soon! Our party of 3 was welcomed with comfortable seating, our server was so friendly and gracious (remember her from Le Petit!) We dined on the charcuterie app, pork chops, scallops and burger. Everything was perfect!

    Pâté, amazing.

We're waiting for our hotel check in and decided to have a drink and a quick bite. Our search led us to The Amsterdam. Is this a small grocery, a bar or a small cafe? It's anything you want it to be! My wife & I are seated and ordered an amazing charcuterie plate. We're still talking about it, it was sooooo good! For libations, my wife ordered a Pinot Grigio and I've always wanted to try Uncle Nearest. I ordered the Whiskey and it was brought to me neat. The salmon pate we ordered was crazy good, we couldn't get enough. The Foie Gras, another item that was on point. I highly recommend all the fresh meats and cheeses The Amsterdam has to offer. So alcohol offerings? Check, nice selection of wines and spirits. The website is lovetheamsterdam.com, I can see why.

My wife and I have been here 5 times: twice for brunch and three times for dinner. I think the brunch here is amazing and would come back for it. The chorizo scramble is amazing. My wife likes their dinner menu, but I disagree with her and will probably insist we go to elsewhere next time we spend an evening in Rhinebeck. Starting with the positives, we have never had a negative experience with the staff. A lot of other reviews mention bad service, and we have thankfully never experienced that. The charcuterie board is one of the best anywhere. Do get the meat and cheese board. My wife and I are usually pretty stuffed afterwards, and I always tell myself I should have just gotten an appetizer portion as my main meal. The cocktails are very well made. The menu changes seasonally, and their bartender knows how to mix a mean drink. I tend to get bourbon based drinks and my wife prefers vodka and tequila based ones. All have been fantastic. Onto the reason why only three stars. The elephant in the room is the price. I'm aware that we are in inflationary times, but it's almost comical how the same menu items have gone up in price in successive visits. Cocktails which were $13.50 on our first visit have gone up to $15 and now $17 on our last visit. Their official Facebook menu can't seem to keep up with the changes since it's still showing the $13.50 price. Their beer prices are also extremely high at $10-12 a pour for what is essentially grocery store beer. There are plenty of great breweries in the Hudson Valley, and they don't seem to ever have anything local on tap. Finally, onto their food. They've slimmed down the dinner menu in recent years to only 6 options for the mains. The past two times that we have gone for dinner I was craving red meat and my only option was a $25 burger. I got the mushroom papperdelle which was fine. The pasta was cooked very nicely. The sauce had decent mushroom flavor, but it lacked seasoning. My wife got the duck breast which she enjoyed, but it came at a pretty egregious price tag of $45. I understand that this is a farm to table style restaurant in Rhinebeck. Gaskins, which serves a similar style of food, charges almost $10 less for their duck dish. Meadowsweet, another similar style restaurant in Williamsburg that does have a Michellin star, charges $38 for their duck. The food does not back up the price. It's good, but not great. There is no James Beard award or any Michellin stars. At these prices, the diners should be wowed.

The ambiance of this place was moody, calming, sexy and overall great. Our waitress Kayla was so sweet and caring. I had the burger which was delicious- I just wished I asked for it to be medium rare. My friend had the parpadelle and it was so fresh, and tasty! Highly recommend this place as well. The food in Hudson has been incredible overall.

We just stopped in for a quick drink and snack while walking around Rhinebeck and once again The Amsterdam is the place to be. It was a little after 5:00 and they just opened up but there were already customers filing in. I highly recommend a reservation but there were some spots at the bar so we had a seat there. We had some drinks and the chef's choice meat and cheese charcuterie plate. It was exactly what we were looking for. It had a fine mix of tasty bites. The atmosphere is cozy and their main courses are top notch. I will always recommend that anyone in the area, come in and be amazed.

Super nice staff. Cautionary dining due to covid with the temp checks. Food is great. Vibe is nice. Having a market right inside the restaurant adds a nice touch. Market salad and squash rings were good. Salmon and duck were prepared perfectly. Great place to dine.

Probably my favorite meal of my trip to New York! The food was amazing and so was the dining atmosphere! The outdoor dining of the amsterdam was very spaced out and nicely decorated with lights and umbrellas. Although we didn't dine inside, the interior was also cool, from the moodiness of the bar, to the open concept kitchen! At first glance, I loved the rustic plating of every dish--but the food was more than just eye appeal. Every dish I ate was like a *big eyes* "mmmmm" moment! From the foie gras and cheese plate, to my main dish, the decadent and creamy mushroom pappardelle! My pasta was cooked perfectly, and I loved the texture of the sheets of wide noodles. The sauce was also super yummy, and I added grilled chicken to the dish. Since my food was pretty rich, and I had gotten full off bread in the beginning, I didn't have room for dessert, which I'm sure would've been amazing!! :(( overall a 10/10 experience at the Amsterdam!!

Absolutely fantastic! This has honestly been one of the best high dining experiences I have been to in a while with one of the best unique menus I have seen. I came here to treat my grandmother over the weekday as I was in Poughkeepsie. I knew of the place from a travel book I own about Hudson valley day trips from the city. Its menu of cheeses also looked like something we both would enjoy. What we ended up getting though was some of the most delicious Foie gras I have ever had. The soft fatty liver was drizzled with cranberry sauce and went perfect with the brioche toast! It was also perfect for my grandmother since she needs soft food to eat. Besides the wonderful Foie gras we also had desserts and other entries each one delicious in their own right. With our meals there was one Fig based cocktail which I adored and would of had more of if we weren't exploring other drinks on the menu. As a visitor I also found the "market" section of the restaurant fun to shop at. They had weird things, imports and local grocery items. I tended to gravitate to the local NY made stuff.. there were these biscotti treats which I really loved and bought a bunch of. Service, meals, shopping this place was a the pinnacle of dining experiences we have been to so far in upstate NY. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to dine out while in the Hudson Valley.

Ate in the enclosed porch that you pass through as you enter the restaurant Inside there is market bar and more tables to sit at. Had the house made ricotta appetizer to start which was very good. Wife had the steel head trout and I had the lamb shank All very good and mouth watering Drinks orders were smoke and mirror and a play on bourbon cherry. We had two and they did not disappoint. Of course we had to get dessert to top it off and cheesecake and warm cookie with ice cream with double espresso with black sambucca and we were ready for bed by the end of the night. Waitress was nice and we love going to rhinebeck and this place rocks

A Rhinebeck favorite because they do everything well: great ambience, welcoming vibe, professional service and delicious food & drinks with an ever-changing menu. The squid ink pasta (April 2023) is stellar! I wish I'd taken a pic. Take your family and friends - be sure to share a charcuterie board.

Service was fantastic, and so was the ambience. The outside was beautiful with fire pits and lights around the trees. The food was absolutely delicious. The only thing I could recommend is that the portion size of the dinner. For 30$ for a pasta dish I was hoping for a few more noodles.

It is definitely on the pricier side and I would recommend reservations as the place was pretty full, but I would absolutely recommend this spot for a delicious, quality meal in Rhinebeck!
