I was looking for a nice cocktail bar to spend Sunday evening and came across this place. The glorious reviews definitely do not disappoint, this place keeps up with the good reviews. The check in process was easy, the waitress quickly seated me to a table. They have an extensive cocktail menu, you can also let the server know what kind of drink you would like to have and they can accordingly customise. I ordered a Bohemian Twist which was an espresso based drink and it was really good! The vibe and atmosphere is very classy and intriguing. Their backstory describes an alchemist who settled down in the house at Provaznická Street and began to create cocktails. On their drinks menu, they have described the essence and mood for each drink which was quite interesting! I definitely recommend this place when visiting Prague! read more

I picked this place after reading reviews on Yelp, but didn't do much research beyond that. Realized only while heading here that it's smack dab in the heart of Old Town. In retrospect, I probably would have opted for something more off the beaten path next time, but that's on me. As my partner pointed out, almost all of the other patrons were American, or at least, natively English speaking. This is definitely a touristy bar. When we entered, the waiter seated us at a table with vintage upholstered chairs and gave us a cocktail menu. While he gave us time to order, his demeanor was harried and my partner felt rushed to order, which soured the experience for him since he was already out of his comfort zone. We did find out after we left and looked back at the menu that they do have beers and non-fancy cocktails as well, which would have made our time more pleasant for him. Yes, you wouldn't necessarily go to this bar just for a simple bottle of beer, but if you have an adventurous soul (like me) and a more traditional type (my partner,) this is good to know! The waiter seemed kind of frantic the whole time we were there, I think because he was the only one on the floor. The bar was full, but the seating area is small and people didn't seem to be slamming their drinks so I'm not sure why the running around- maybe he was behind on his sidework or something or maybe there was extra space I wasn't aware of? I don't know. I ordered the Golden Age of Z, which had artisanal vodka and champagne and mango and passionfruit. My partner had the Black Sun. Both were tasty and gave off Great Gatsby vibes. This place is pretty kitschy but a fun find if you're into a speakeasy kind of aesthetic. We had a super hard time hailing an Uber from the area afterwards, like 11PM, which even on a weekday was pretty surprising considering how touristy Old Town is, you think there'd be cars nearby- tram service was predictably slow due to the hour. All in all, I don't regret giving it a try. Definitely a tourist bar but not the worst sort. read more

Straight off of Wenceslas Square this is definitely a tourist location but that doesn't mean it has to be terrible. The vibe is cool and so is the attention to detail and decoration. It's quite nice. Walk upstairs and it's almost like a speakeasy bar. The drinks are interesting and the menu presentation is also fun to read. It's quite dark and the mood is intimate by casual so not too pretentious. The bar is colourful. Now for the drinks. The menu that is offered for signature cocktails is a very weird set of concoctions. For example, I started with a number nine. It is quite possibly the worst way I've ever started en evening. It sounds interesting because there is lemon sorbet, raspberries, and Gin but that's right about where the drink gets odd because there's some sort of foam on top. My friend had a drink and complained that was very sweet which was my feelings about the drink I had. Disappointed I have decided to go with a classic and at first asked for a Sidecar, which is a Cognac lemon drink they did not know how to do this, so I asked for a old fashioned and the presentation was quite nice (and really the presentation of all the drinks was quite nice) but it was also too sweet, not enough bitters and it was missing a Marchiano cherry. My friend's second round was also quite sweet and he ended up not finishing it. Prices are up there given you can find beer for 35-45 a pint (half litre). Cocktails aren't Prague's strong suite and there are only a handful of places I would take out of towners to get a drink. It's disappointing. I was also perturbed with with the bartender anding the shaker to what may have been his girlfriend. The bartender made no real show and to then hand the shaker to a "customer" to shake drinks was in poor form. Further, she wasn't classy and sat on her knees with her shoes in our face. Who does that? I suppose this is probably a hipster bar, but it doesn't have a hipster flavour to it. There's some pretentiousness in it, but it doesn't have to turn you off. The clients were everywhere from classy to rolled-out-of-bed, tracksuit mafia to runway model, sexy to frumpy. read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out with my boyfriend while we were in Prague for a week. The place is super nice - music not too loud, room a little darker with candles for a more intimate atmosphere. We came in on Wednesday around 7:30PM (without reservation) and there were several tables to choose from. Vidma was our person for the night and he was just excellent. Super friendly, made us drinks that weren't on the menu (but should be!) based on our preferences. Everything was perfect, and the amount of alcohol was very generous (we left quite tipsy). The drinks are on the pricier side (but standard price if you live in the U.S.) but they are very good. Great place for a date night. We had so much fun, and definitely will be back next time we're in Prague! read more

This is a great place to come for a night cap. I opted for the fate of the cards drink. It is worth it for the little show. The bartender was quite the showman and was a true pro at mixing drinks. We almost went to the bar next door, our original destination, but after hearing the music and seeing the fabric covered doors and a name like "The Alchemist Bar" we couldn't resist. Thank goodness we followed our gut, or in this case our liver, up stairs as it couldn't have been better. The space is greatly great for conversation around a table, but I suggest sitting at the bar so you can see the artists work.
