To be berated by a middle manager . So now I'm taking up a whole 4 top by myself. Feet up. Not allowing any other guests a chair. Sorry. No. BC it's their "policy". Then she explained, that i can stand there but i can't sit there. Even if I was drinking, and buying drinks all night. And she was so proud of herself. I remember bartending- for 14 years. At places like the Ranch Bowl, Choo Choos, I never remember telling a customer to move bc they sat down, alone. I think what's more important is how excited she was to be a dick. If I was causing a fight, or completely non compliant (Again - alone and said I would move to the end of the empty bar)- then i wouldn't be posting this. Instead. This grumpy bitch ruined my night. A night that I bought tickets for two weeks ago. I almost never go out to bars. I'm 47, so older, and alone. My friends were so happy for me to do this. Maybe- that "policy" works when it's elbow to elbow. But if it's so dead...maybe people sitting at the end of the bar is a good thing. The events there are fun, the bands are varied and I often find acts I want to see, and it's not as expensive as other venues of its size. It isn't fancy. Back in the days before the Waiting Room and Slowdown were around, this was THE venue in Omaha to see local and independent touring bands. While Sokol Underground doesn't enjoy the same volume of shows it once had, it's still plugging along after all these years. Nowadays, mostly hardcore shows are booked here. And maybe only a couple a week on a good week. Still, going to a show here is a classic Omaha experience.

The atmosphere is great, the sound is solid, and this year's concert lineup has been especially impressive. One change I actually really like is the new grab-and-go bar. Instead of waiting in a long line, you tap your credit card when you enter, grab your drinks, and you're automatically charged when you leave. It's a much faster process and keeps you from missing as much of the show. My biggest disappointment is the food. They used to have multiple food options, including hot dogs and barbecue, but now it's basically just Guy Fieri's Quick Bites. Honestly, it's a downgrade. I really wish they'd bring back the old food vendors because there was a lot more variety. The staff has always been friendly and helpful every time I've visited, which definitely adds to the experience. Overall, Stir Cove is still a fantastic place to catch a concert, and I'll keep coming back. Just please bring back the hot dogs and barbecue!

The gate worker got me a chair to sit in and wait for her, this was very kind and helpful! The sound at this venue is a bit off, a band that I know has great vocals and sound sounded funny and not like their voices were carrying like they usually do. I also would like to say that the ADA section could really be better. It's VERY hard to see as a person in a wheelchair. Being unable to stand up for long periods of time, I couldn't see for a majority of the show. It was frustrating especially when people would walk in front of me, stand directly infront of where I am sitting, and talk, not even watching the show. The ADA section needs to have a clear view of the stage as it is unfair to those who have disabilities to give up a nice time because the venue cannot provide a space where they are accommodated.

I have no idea what the ones who are complaining about how they got treated. Maybe it wasn't the staff who had the problem! Parking was only $5.00 can you believe that? try to find that kind of a deal downtown like that! Plus it is right across the street from it! And it was a breeze to get out of as they people directing traffic to keep it moving. If I could give them a higher rating I would! I look forward to many more concerts at the The Astro Theater! Too, the line is odd, as it's only one person screening IDs for booze wristbands. We decided they don't need our bar money. Skipped on those, and went to the entry area, which has multiple entry lines. The sound is great. The light show is odd, given that it's still light out at 7pm in July. The headliner might be able to properly utilize them, though. The stage is close enough to see facial expressions from the 200s, which is great. Out here, the singer can easily walk down to the audience. He did, too. Parking is the same for indoor and outdoor seating. It's close to the event, and it's only $5. We'd previously been to the indoor theater, and liked it better. Not as hot, nor as sunny, either. I see apartments next to the amphitheater. That must be rough. There need to be more restaurants near this location. We're glad we like one of the few.

The service is too notch and plenty of ushers do walk you directly to your seats. There are at least four bars from what I saw (one in main hallway and three in the seating/stage area). There were plenty of bartenders as well. They have a coat check in and there's plenty of space to stand around before the show starts. My only complaint is the seats are small foldable chairs and connected to each other so you can't move them at all and you can be touching elbows or bottoms depending on the size of people

Yachtly Crew was playing at 8pm and we found some inexpensive tickets on stub hub for $30. The place is incredible and architecturally cool on the exterior - large open venue, with a big stage, standing room on floor and seats on upper level and ample street parking. There is a bar and additional seating on the first level. It's clean and the staff was great.

The Sydney is a great little divey bar in Benson…read more It's a little toward the "end" of the Benson strip, but it's definitely worth making your way down to check it out if you're a fan of a more classic bar atmosphere. They have tons of stuff going on like bands, comedy shows, and used to have trivia but I don't know if they do anymore - and the bartenders have always been great. There is always something fun happening there, even if it's just a plain old bar night. The drinks are served cold and crisp, and best of all - it's way less expensive than some other bars in the Benson area. A great place for a cheap beer and the best people!

The Council Bluffs 100 Block is the oldest commercial neighborhood in the metro area. Dating back…read moreto 1853, most of the block's buildings celebrated their sesquicentennial a couple of presidents ago. Omaha's first newspaper was printed on this block. This block is older than the invention of cocktails, imagine that. It was pretty rough and full of scoundrels in those halcyon days: journalists, lawyers, land speculators, railroad magnates, Abraham Lincoln. Eventually things improved as saloons, social clubs, gambling halls and bordellos moved in. Today, the 100 Block is to Council Bluffs what Buckhead is to Atlanta and a new whiskey bar called The Barrel is in the middle of it. The Barrel is a swanky, crafty, well-appointed, beautifully decorated, two-story lounge featuring cocktails made according to original recipes with top shelf brands. No mixes, no shortcuts. Every drink is a double just as our shameless forebears intended them. The interior is full of local art including the Barrel sign over the bar. It's well lit with high ceilings reflecting the warmth of the architecture and the staff.     The night I stopped in was moderately busy for a Friday night before 9 p.m. A dozen or so patrons filled the upstairs bar room before wandering downstairs to the more lounge-y Bottom of the Barrel. This is where the bands play and the furnishings swing more to the comfortable side of things. There is a bar here as well, but the craft cocktails were being made upstairs that night. So back upstairs, I asked for a recommendation to show me the takeaway, the thing I should know about The Barrel. Now normally, if a bartender recommends a whiskey sour I assume he thinks I'm in high school or doesn't want a tip, but the gregarious gent behind the bar that night was telling sincere stories, and not just with his beautiful scalp tattoos. The Whiskey Sour was a great place to start. The simple classic has been denigrated for decades by shortcuts and mixes. But this Whiskey Sour is born again hard made with Cody Road Rye, fresh lemon, egg white and love for only $8. Spectacular. And foamy. There is a literal wall of 130 whiskeys at The Barrel Each shelf is higher than the last. Your taste is limited only by your credit. Their Old Fashioned had me at spherical ice, but I intend to return for more classics (Manhattan, Negroni, Tom Collins) or clever originals (Brockway Bulldog, Baltimore Zoo or The Night is Dark and Full of Terror). And there's beer. Exile Beatnik Sour and Lagunitas IPA ($5), Burning Skye Scottish Ale, Lucky Bucket Wide Eye Coffee Stout, Millstream Pale Ale, Brickway Maple Pecan Brown Ale, Empyrean Dark Side Vanilla Porter ($4.50) and Bud Light ($3). There is live music on Fridays and Saturdays, an open jam from 4-8 Sundays followed by an open mic until close, and comedy every second Wednesday. The Bottom of the Barrel has $3 premium wells on weekends and there is never a cover. With drinks like this, it's obvious why our ancestors were so unapologetic about drinking doubles.
