Because the train runs above ground while in Queens, the view of Manhattan is stunning at night. I rode it from Grand Central to a Mets game, and I found it to be efficient. I also liked the fact that a White Castle and 24-hour grocery store in Sunnyside are easily accessed from the 46th St. stop on the local line. read more

I was reading through these reviews and almost died laughing. Seems 99% of the poor reviews are from those that have absolutely no life experience. Trains get crowded. Trains have delays...Heck trains have rude passengers. Some even smell! I've been riding this train non stop for 15 years. Sure I can drive to an express bus into Manhattan...Sure I can drive to the LIRR. Sure I can spend lots more $$$$ to get to Manhattan from NE Queens in a less efficient way for a little more comfort. But for $5 round trip or soon to be $5.50. Can you beat that? If not....Try driving into the city or spend more time trying to find the more comfortable solution..or better yet. MOVE INTO THE CITY! read more

I ride the 7 train to work everyday and I have to say it is the worst line I've experienced. If you're a business, you need to at least provide during the peak hours, and the 7 train fails miserably during rush hour - at least once a week delays due to signals problems, emergency braking from another train, etc. Get used to the groans when the train dispatcher routinely announces, "Due to....the train will be running local. Take the E & F at Roosevelt." A few months ago, there was an article about a 7 train manager who falsified checking signals: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/03/17/subway-worker-charged-in-mta-false-records-scandal-pleads-not-guilty/ Something need to change with the 7 train or the workers on the 7. read more

Such a frustrating train. Allowing extra time for commute doesn't necessarily help. Seems like there is always something going on. I have hopes this will improve in the near future as more and more people are relying in it for daily use. read more

Diamond 7- very fast and convenient and comes fast to the station 5 stars..too bad this runs only in time intervals Local 7- very slow, though it also arrives fast, kinda like riding the f train 1 star read more

Absolutely love this train , takes me home babe ! Morning rush hour is pretty crazy with crazy people crashing each other to get a seat ! I don't mind if I have to stand by the door as well but people please have some decency & behave like you in civilized country. Chuckles ! Thank you my 7. read more

It could be better but compared to the other trains this one is much better. we do experience delays and for some reason it always happens when you have to hurry but compared to others it is much better. The other trains get delayed more often than this one. read more

The 7 Train is excellent for a few reasons: 1. A Surefire way to get from Flushing or any of the other towns in between to Times Square. Since most of the ride is above ground (between Mets - Willets Point and Hunters Point Avenue), you get to see the neighborhoods your passing through. I've noticed a lot of ethnic diversity as you travel the line through Queens, so that may be an interesting factor as well. read more

Calling all sprinters. You can gain confidence by running against this train. Once it passes 46 St, it apparently turns into a steel turtle, but without the speed of that venerable, live animal. Geesh, and I had thought the R train was the slowest. The repairs on this line(and the R) that had shut it down for a good 2(?) years and service disruptions was what had scared me away from Queens for a LONG time. And sometimes the walk up to certain stations is such a long ascent I pity the elderly when the elevators don't work. On the plus side, I have been rediscovering Queens lately, and thankfully, the 7 is above ground so you can get cell service as you experience the agonizing inching along a sunny day. Along the way, it does bring you to some good eating spots, a major plus. MTA had thoughtfully provided an express train to save daily riders from descending into commuter madness. And I noticed many Spanish/Hispanic folks on this train seem particularly polite. I was offered a seat twice today(invariably by women. Male Yelpers, take heed!) so I guess I looked pitifully worn out after of climbing up and down several 7 stations in new orthotics. For an old train that runs on old, outside tracks, I guess I just have to be thankful it runs, err---or crawls at all. read more

What is this 10 minute delay before you pull up into flushing??? WHAT IS THE POSSIBLE HOLD UP??

Disclaimer: My 1 star rating is for this current weekend service debacle. I can't believe anyone has yet to weigh on this latest travesty from the MTA inflicted on us. I grew up off the Main St stop and live off Vernon-Jackson now so am extremely well versed in this train, and at no point can I remember it being worse than this. After a year of constant track work and inconvenience, they give us the shiv in the gut - ELEVEN STRAIGHT WEEKENDS of no service. Imagine the uproar from the straphangers of any other train line. The only reason there's less of a furor on the 7 is because we're desensitized to this horsesh*t. For those of us who enjoy the nightlife and get back to Queens after 9pm, the shuttles are useless and nonexistent. We've heard of Councilman van Bramer's proposal for shuttles between LIC and GCT, and the MTA's rejection based on the preposterous assertion that the roundabout way is more efficient. The walk back to my apt is not particularly safe or short, and thus I've spent roughly $300 on cabs since the Jan announcement. I've sent a couple letters to the MTA demanding they reimburse us at least in the form of metrocard credits, and naturally the response was from someone not qualified to read the text of Clifford the Big Red Dog, let alone respond in a cogent manner. Anyways I just needed to rant because I'm already looking forward to another disastrous weekend of being stuck with the joyous decision between going to Brooklyn (again) or bleeding cab money. read more

Not bad at all. It comes every few minutes. However, it tends to get packed during rush hour.

Oh 7 train 7 train. How do I count the ways you annoy me? Let me start... completely unreliable service. Trains seriously break down every day. Mornings especially leaving commuters stranded at peak morning rush hour. Service suspensions in the mornings happen at least once or twice a week. Unacceptable. read more

What else is new when it rains? Signal problems causing massive train delays and turning the train into a sardine can, while a thousand people try to shove their way in when the train is obviously full. Fix the damn signals already for Christs sake. I think anyone that has to use the 7 train should get a 50% discount for inconvenience. read more

This line has the strangest and rudest crowd of passengers thats for sure. However its fast and carries 11 car trains at all times.

The problem with this train is Queensboro Plaza Station and the merging of express and local trains during M-F Rush Hour. This is what causes all the delays. MTA allows too much separation time between trains at this station, causing further, unnecessary delays. There should be only a 30 second separation intervals between trains, not 2 minutes. If you could take express from Queensboro to Grand Central and skip Courts Square, Hunters and Vernon, this would eliminate the Queensboro Plaza merge problem. Hunter Station is a waste too, no one uses it. Way too overcrowded too! Construction every other weekend. Trains are new and clean, which is why it gets 2 Stars though, but always crowded, even at 6am. read more

The international express! Takes you through diverse neighborhoods like Jackson Heights, Flushing, Corona, Sunnyside. The riders here seem to be normal with none of the pole dancers or smelly homeless clogging up seats. It's usually less delay prone then other lines at least when I am taking it...The views of Manhattan are also incredible. Not much to complain about here. read more

I ride this every morning, and every morning the train crawls. Then we are stuck in at least 3 stops "due to train traffic". Let's not even talk about the weekends.. read more

For the morning rush hours or evening rush hours, AVOID this train. Passengers are rude and inconsiderate. They enter the train and stand at the door and what are those people that enter after the supposed to do? People eat, talk on the phone, scream and do everything that you won't imagine. The train is safe but annoying. And you should look at the crowd at the first stop(yes, first stop), people are like charging bulls. I mean, are they going to die if they stand for 50 minutes? Insane! I don't charge , so I normally don't get a seat but sometimes I do. I agree with Gary - the foot traffic is RIDICULOUSLY absurd. They will pass you , push you , and shove you from any side, watch out. My main source of stress on the 7 train platoform is navigating through people, especially at the last stop. That was like an event and thank heavens I've decided to use the LIRR. I have ised this train late-night, really late-night like 12 AM and 1 AM and it is a VERY AWESOME train for late night - safe, relatively full/empty(so you are not alone with the homeless man!), and frequent. I have no option but to use this train because l live in Flushing but off-late I've started taking the LIRR to work. This saves me from gettin frustrated in the morning. For non-peak hours, the train is ok, but runs local. So a ride from flushing main street to times square 42 street is a good 50 minutes. the express takes half that time. I agree with Monica T. It took me a few weeks to get used to that crappy terminology that RED = express and GREEN = Local. Well, use this train at your own risk of getting frustrated. read more

When I lived in Flushing, this was my subway line. Service was generally reliable and the trains clean but occasionally these trains are subject to weekend interruptions that can be a huge inconvenience; there are both a local and express train on this line, however the express line only runs on weekdays and during rush hours. From the last stop in Queens, which is Main Street in Flushing to the last stop in Manhattan which is 42nd St. and eighth Avenue, you can be a very long and trying ride. These trains are generally crowded and sometimes have either people selling or performing, which can be very annoying read more

I remember taking the 7 Train when I was younger and felt it totally sucked. But after living in Brooklyn and taking the JMZ I would say, praise the 7 Train. No need to explain. Its the quickest way to Flushing. Its also a great route when R and F don't work anymore at night. There is still so many people on it. It stops by good bus stations in Queens. Trust me it is better than taking the cab. I do remember when I used to live in Sunnyside, it took me a long time to get to work!! I was so packed that I had to take the next train that would sometimes come thirty minutes later! Thank goodness my boss was very nice enough to understand. But yeah , I suggest you take a proper amount of time for your destination. Give it an hour extra. read more

i must have taken this line at least 200 (quick estimation!) times since coming and staying here in NYC over 8 years ago. And the character and the experience have changed a lot since I started taking this line in this part of Queens and Manhattan. I am now seeing a lot of whites and blacks compared with the previous years where I'd usually see hispanics and asians (like myself) in the cars. I just hate it when they have to schedule maintenance and repairs of this line, which can be a downer especially if you're visiting this part of NYC on weekends. The trains I've taken were relatively fast, clean and safe, and I have always enjoyed observing the interesting and fascinating looks of other people who come from so many places all over the world. i wish they'd extend the train from Main Street in Flushing to other easterly neighborhoods in Queens. by the way, rides heading to the last stop in Flushing can be problematic if you happened to be taking them on days when there are games or events happening at the Met Stadium. also, you'll hate this line if you find yourself right underneath its tracks---it's really that noisy when it passes by. read more

I only take this train when I need to go to woodside on the 61st stop which is consider filipino town. I go their to dine in on my favorite filipino pastries from Red Ribbon and Jollibee and Engeline's Restaurant. I love that area, but at most I avoid this train cause it has other Asian people that are smelly and rude. You know who you are!! read more

Horrible experience for taking 7 subway today. It is horrible. The chance for me taking subway once a year? It was so horrible experience on it today. This morning, after two stops to 111 street from Flushing, the train was stopped, then we got alert to get off it due to it was on fire? Then we were told to go to opposite and get back to Flushing by train, after wait and wait, we were noticed that there was no 7 train at all, everybody has to go outside to get block ticket and take bus to anywhere? when I reached outside, one officer was issuing tickets, it was unlucky, or I can say this was my comity to the person who is elder than me, I am one who after last one ticket from the officer, then I went back to the window, one women inside told me that she would not issue a ticket because I have one already. How? she said she saw I get one from that officer. Then I turned round to try to communicate to that officer I did not get it, then that women inside screamed me, " Move" and issued one to me. You can image the crowd on the street, how many person who were calling the boss they will be late. after 4 hours I came back to the original station, Flushing. 4 hours for 2 stops cycle. It could be called as adventure on 7 train subway. I can not image the people who are taking it every day, what kind of the life, it is pity. read more

I dread the 7 train, I have lived on this line for over 10 years and have nothing positive to say about it, cannot rely on this train, it'll make you late for work....it's slow, it's packed, the conducters are usually screaming at you through static to clear the doors, it's an ugly train..and when there are signal problems or other reasons for the line to go down (twice in 2 weeks already), then put on those walking shoes because you are not going to pack onto a bus with the other thousands left stranded...usually at commute time. read more

Two stars is for the non-rush hour service. Evening rush hour service would warrant one star, while the morning commute on this cattle car deserves only your best barrage of curse words. Attempting to board this subway line at the 40th Street station any hour on a weekday morning before 10am will result in your severe punishment. First you will pay a fare, then join the rest of the comatose herd on the platform. When the first train arrives, it will mockingly open its doors so that you may see the passengers inside seething at the thought that you might attempt to join them. You will take a pass and wait for the next train. Instead of the 2-3 minute wait promised by the MTA, you will wait 7-10 minutes for the next train to arrive. Again, the doors ding and open; you attempt, this time, to enter Dante's Inferno (Summer & Winter). The writhing bodies create a unified mass near the door, where you may stand in a position determined only by the space created between two other riders. Should you refuse to mold your body into this shape, you will be grunted and glared at, forced to receive their morning and stale smokers' breath. Should a miracle occur and a seat open up, your attempt at claiming it will be foiled by the spread legs of a baggy-panted, chunky, iPod-ed teenager. You may scream, but your scream is silenced by Chinese cell phone yakkers and the musical broadcast from the hip-hop-a-potamus' iPod ear buds. Just close your eyes, hold your breath and jump - at least this ride is only twice as long as the MTA says it is. read more
