The Q44 is an express bus route that primarily commutes to Bronx Zoo, Jamaica, and Main Street in general. Pros: Arrives more frequently than the other buses in Queens. Usually clean and not too much trash to be found. Not a problem to find a seat either for me anyway. Some have the USB-C outlets to charge your phones. Cons: Takes every 15-20 min to arrive when waiting at the bus stop. So, it eventually evens out in the end. Luckily, there're usually not too many people onboard...at least from the times that I do have to hop on a Q44. I hate the fact that I ended being one of the people that paid in the middle section of the Q44 bus NUMBER 4735 at 8:45 pm going BACK TO THE BRONX !!!! And when I went to the front to get a ticket transfer he said he " can't " because the Card payment is not working and he pointed to the one that's in the picture So I told him but yea I paid at the other section and another lady said he told her don't worry it's not working and another customer said that the driver told her if your going to pay , you have to pay at the card payment machine in the middle of the door section or the back door section at that machine . UNBELIEVABLE !!!! He told each customer something different. I'm really getting tired of this . The MTA makes things harder for the actual paying customers. But then if you don't pay they want to ticket you and kick you off the bus . Throughout my experience of riding the Q44 I've never had an issue waiting for the bus. It's always on time and runs quite frequently. My only gripe is the Select Bus Service. Mainly, the ticket booth. I do not feel that the service has improved in regards to it being less crowded. This service provided does not improve the concert crowds of people riding this bus. For the people that actually retrieve a ticket kudos to you. For the ones that pretend they don't understand, y'all need to get it together. You're holding up the bus! Honestly, how long has SBS been in effect? This is an ongoing dilemma. My thing is this, if a person takes the same bus every single day there's no excuse as to why they don't retrieve their ticket before hand. My review is about the bus not the riders or the attitude of the riders. I take this bus often to go to Flushing to do shopping. It saves me the hassle of parking and traffic. I find it has a good schedule doing daylight hours and on weekends. I have taken the bus to Parkchester and also the Bronx Zoo. I find it a pleasant ride as I save on toll and I can get some reading done. I find with the double length busses you have a better chance of getting a seat. I also find the air and heat to be great no matter how crowded busses get. My complaint is with the slobs that leave there garbage on the bus you bought it on take it off with you. I do notice at times the buses come bunched up. This I have been told is due to traffic on the Bridge. Its NYC traffic not much we can do about it. This bus takes me into the hellhole that is Flushing. It connects me to the 7 train. These guys are as on time as they can be. Granted there is some traffic, but the ride is ok. I often ride with the kids in the morning because I have to get to work and they have to get to school. And you know how kids are these days. These buses are often the stretch versions to accommodate the amount of riders on this route. Sure as you get closer to downtown Flushing it definitely packs like sardines most mornings. This is unavoidable, and if this bothers you then no offense you need to find an alternative means of transportation. Sorry, but the truth hurts. I've been on the bus where they don't let people on at Booth Memorial where the hospital is at... and it is simply packed. Sometimes it ain't so packed, yet the driver will still not allow more. Why I'm not sure, but this is obviously up to the driver. Due to the overcrowding, some people will even cut the line by "backdoor busting" the bus (gosh that sounded dirty LOL). There are a fair amount of fare evaders, and I wish there were more transit cops to monitor this. It really pisses me off because these people think they are above the law, and believe they are doing nothing wrong. Well you just wronged the people that upstanding "citizens" that are honorable enough to respect the line. Worst part is that you have old and young alike that backdoor bust. Plus they have the nerve to shove you if you are near those doors. This is what our tax dollars pay for folks. How efficient our society is. Be mindful of the FOBs. For the most part they will not give a shit about you, and to get an "excuse me" and/or a "sorry" would be like finding a Benji on the floor. Especially if said people have children with them. There is minimal supervision and then people wonder why kids have gotten spoiled rotten through the generations. I am Chinese... and their blatant lack of mutual respect for others is shameful to me. But I trudge on and keep fighting the good fight. Trust me that I lay into them when they engage in such shameful acts and/or behavior. I know the previous passage may not necessarily relate to the bus and the service itself, but it is part of the experience on this line and I believe it needed to be shared. It is by no means a knock on the service, but a sad indication of the times and the area where this service is being provided. And one more thing... these do often get bunched up in the morning rush. I live in southeast Queens, but I occasionally have to take care of business in Flushing. Long story short, the Q44 (and its sidekick the Q20 A/B) run frequently but is slow. Even with Limited stop service, it is slow. Select Bus Service could possibly make it faster, but Main Street is too narrow for it to be implemented. In addition, the area around downtown Flushing is too congested. A lot of people use this route, but since the Q44 uses the larger, articulated buses (except during late nights), you'll likely get a seat. High school kids use the bus, but they generally behave (Townsend Harris is probably the most underrated high school in the city). The Q44 has a scenic ride over the Whitestone Bridge. There's not much that could be done to improve it. If you're just traveling from Jamaica to Flushing, you may want to consider the Q25 Limited. read more

This bus comes every 7-12 minutes but some mornings theres not enough room to get on because there are so many school kids. The bus is longer than a regular bus and is a lot quicker than the Q20. You buy your ticket before you get on and the driver doesn't check the tickets, but I've heard patrol comes around to check tickets sometimes. read more

Hate this bus the security on the bus always tries to start a problem with me for no given reason they check the tickets and sometimes cannot read the tickets right. When this happens they take you off the bus to argue with you if you really did pay and when your right they still kick you off the bus. Next they don't advertise the ticket booth right which makes it difficult for anyone to read and understand what is going on. read more

Lived in Queens for 4 years and took the Q44 and it's not terrible. It's fairly reliable and it's one of the few direct routes from Queens to the Bronx. The buses are newish now and fairly clean. The big problem with this bus is that it goes through Flushing, which is an overcrowded neighborhood filled with rude people. I could never understand why people would wait 15-20 min for the bus at night at the 7 train stop and then get off at 35 Ave (the first stop after Roosevelt Ave)....and those people will fight to the death for a seat. One time, a lady sat on my lap. It's not really the bus that's the problem, it's people and it's the fact that it's one of the few express lines to go through a very crowded neighborhood. The Q44 Limited is great now at non- peak hours, a trip from jamaica to flushing can be from 15-30 now! Also the q44 is the first bus line in queens that operates with articulated buses (double buses). It also has uneed extra buses so you now can get a seat all the time (excludes rush hour). However the Q44 is attracting more people so the buses are still crowded during rush hour .If they were still using the old buses (they still occasionally pop up) you wouldn't be able to enter. To sum it up the Q44 is a much better route and is reliable. great for when you're lazy. Though is is a problem with the people who ride and the litter. The bus is good the people don't know how to take care of these expensive buses. read more

Just FYI, to the people that complain that the drivers complete their shift and swap, thats part of their job... They're supposed to do that I personally like this line. Although its a slug going through chinese times square (aka flushing) the rest of the route is fairly fast... I use the Q44 SBS at a bus stop that also has a stop for Q 20 and Q 34 service. Since the SBS plan has been effect, you cannot get on a Q20 or 34 if you purchased a ticket for the Q44 bus. I think that ticket should be able to be used on any MTA bus. Alice from Flushing, NY read more

Terrible bus service!! Every time I take this bus from west farms to st johns university the bus driver stops at each bus stop for 5 mins because they claim they have to wait for their time. Listen we pay a lot of money for a damn metro card to be having shitty service and be told to wait for their time. read more
