This place is a gem. We were able to walk in and get a seat at the bar. No one was at the bar cozy little place down at the bottom level. We ordered Amish chicken and pork chops. Both were very delicious lightly seasoned, and we scrape the plate. The weight staff was very professional and attentive. for dessert we ordered the sticky date cake. It was absolutely delicious. The best dessert I've ever had so far. This place I truly will patronize again when I'm in town. read more

Lost respect for this place after they screwed up my birthday dinner. We called up and they confirmed we had a table in the main dining room. When we arrived they told us they never said that they had a table for us in the main dining room. They offered us a table in the tavern or outside for the same prefix menu. We had 4 people in our party all attest to hearing them say "no problem" and the manager didn't care. He claimed he trained his staff to never say "no problem" well I guess they just called my family a liar to my face. I will not be back again this summer. Thanks for ruining my night. read more

I brought my mother here for two nights to celebrate her upcoming 90th birthday. Every single part of our stay there was absolutely stellar. Both Stephanie and Carol at the front desk went above and beyond in a very friendly, professional way to make us feel welcome in so many different ways. I actually dropped some cash out of my pocket while having a wonderful dinner in their main dining room and our waiter Brad picked it up and gave it to Carol... who in turn gave it to me. Holy Moley! This place is an absolute gem. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and beautifully detailed. My Mom's room, #6, was on the ground floor and had a lovely view of the back garden. Very upscale restaurant with a small yet diverse menu. It is very darkly lit and was very warm tonight, but overall a great spot for a quiet date night or friend's night out. As my first indoor dining experience since COVID-19, the 1770 House was an incredible experience that will be hard to top. It was a wonderful welcome back to the high-end dining world while also a cute part of history in East Hampton. My partner and I ate in the tavern. Every other table was empty. Most of the patrons were not wearing masks, even when not eating, but all of the servers were. They also wore gloves. In the tavern, you also have the upstairs menu available as well as the tavern menu. We went for the prix fixe since there were so many good-sounding things to taste. And indeed, everything was good - even the side of bread with olive oil. The tuna starter, while small, was very fresh; and I loved the mushroom, spinach, and cherry salad. It could have been a teeny bit less dressed, but I loved the large chunks of mushrooms. The mains were both really stellar. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and the risotto was a great compliment. I've never had such tender, fall-off-the-bone rabbit; and I loved the fresh pesto pasta. Top it off with the ricotta cheesecake, which had blackberry drizzle and hazelnut crust. Truly divine. Been coming here for many years. Food and service is very good. A bit pricy but then again it's the Hamptons. I took away a star due to the reason that I've notice a Switch and bait theme going. I had a bottle of wine that I with dinner a previous time. When I did go back and ask for it , I was told that it sold out and recommend something else. A bit disappointed but I went along with a different bottle. Saving the name of it for future visit. This time I went and the same thing happened again. Was disappointed but moved on to another choice. But what i finally got annoyed was that I had heard the same thing with an adjacent table. This having them order something else. Is this a trend to trick the customers to buy something else? With all the bottles of liquor and wine, how is it you just so happen to run out?? Had dinner at the 1770 House Tavern. This was our second visit- my husband and I had eaten at the bar a year ago and had a lovely time, and so we were excited to return; we came for dinner with my parents over the long holiday weekend. The tavern is absolutely beautiful, with charming eighteenth-century architecture and decor (something my husband and I especially appreciate, as we are both historians). However, this visit was very disappointing. The waiter (Jack), was extremely rude and condescending for the duration of our stay. I am a vegetarian and asked if the tavern still served the amazing pizza/flatbread we had had last year. Jack informed us (with an attitude) that it was no longer on the menu. When I asked whether the kitchen had any vegetarian protein for the salads they had in their appetizer menu (no salads to be found under the "mains"), he asked what protein I'd like, and when I inquired about various meat substitutes (including different types of beans), he said they didn't have any of that. When I asked what vegetarian protein the tavern did have (since he *had* asked), he smirked at me and said "none " (and so, I wonder, why did he ask what protein I wanted, if he knew the kitchen couldn't provide it?). I ultimately ordered a salad for dinner (it was excellent, though unfortunately none of the salads were "meal-sized" and so it was quite small and not filling). We also ordered drinks (after the query about vegetarian options). I asked Jack what the bar had in terms of beer. He ran through a short list pretty quickly (and not all of the names were recognizable, so it was unclear what kinds of beer each of these was). When I asked for clarification on the types of beer (IPA, ale, lager, etc), Jack was again condescending and rude. He seemed almost to take pleasure in being unpleasant to us. I was disappointed that 1770 House didn't offer any vegetarian main meal options (or at least offer to throw together an alternative, as many restaurants do), though I would have still had a perfectly nice time there if our waiter Jack hadn't been so incredibly unpleasant (as I said above: the space is beautiful, and also the bussing staff were kind and attentive, and the salad, albeit small, was very good). Jack absolutely needs some kind of customer service training. I would also appreciate the tavern adding a vegetarian main to their menu - and I imagine other patrons would as well! read more

The 1770 house tavern was a big disappointment. Obtaining a reservation was not easy (btw, don't go through Open Table. If you do, and cancel the same day you are our $85.00 per person - based on House Prix Fixe, although their website says it's $65). Let's start with the service. The waiter was very loud - as if we were deaf. When asked if there were any vegetarian options (of the 4 of us 3 are vegetarian) he seemed incredulous (very, very limited - such as salads). Regarding food: There was nothing special with the dishes we ordered which included Balsam Farms Mesclun Greens & Roasted Butternut Squash Salad. The one carnivore amongst us got The Tavern Burger Proprietary Blend of Local Acabonac Farms Grass-Fed Beef. The so-called House-made Fries must have been a McDonald's recipe (see photo), but not anywhere as tasty. About the ambiance. Other than the beamed ceilings there is little resemblance to a 1770 tavern. read more

First fine outdoor dining during covid and was so glad it was at the 1770 House! They have heated lamps that made our outdoor dinner dining experience very pleasant. Also, the tables are 6ft apart. First off, their dinner rolls are fluffy and warm. Sooo good. HIGHLY recommend the burrata!! It was my favorite dish?! The wild mushroom salad was also delicious. A beautiful restaurant in East Hampton! A luxurious experience that you won't experience anywhere. We waited in their waiting room while a table outside was being prepared for us (decorated beautifully with books and couches). And what a table: their outdoor seating is lit up by fairy lights, a fountain in the middle of the tables, and trees and flowers surrounding us like an oasis. The prix fixe meal was one of the best I've had. Highlights of the meal included the fluke tartare, foie gras, filet mignon and lastly for dessert, the sticky date cake. I have been taking my mother to the 1770 House for many years. Our most recent visit was among the best yet. The hostess, Ingrid, greeted us warmly and seated us at our favorite table. Our server, Hannah, was excellent. She was very attentive. Our meal began with a very good shrimp cocktail. I had a delicious Tuscan kale soup....perfect for a cold winter night. Came to The 1770 House for my birthday over the weekend and had a great experience! My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner during our Hamptons weekend and I really enjoyed everything! The restaurant has a delightful three course menu that is $75 dollars per person, I will get into what we had in a bit. We started our meal with a few cocktails; I had a dirty martini, while my husband had a lemon martini both were excellent, However, I wish that they had blue cheese stuffed olives for my dirty martini (it truly is the only way to drink a dirty these days) For the food: My courses: First course - Chilled corn soup (great flavor overall) Second course - Local sweet corn risotto (this dish was fantastic and I loved the summer truffle atop the dish) Third course - Crisp Maitake Mushrooms (the mushrooms were everything and I loved the quinoa!) My husbands courses: First course- Crisp Local Zucchini Flower Salad (he said the vinaigrette was perfect) Second course - Lobster and Snap Pea Pasta (he said the lobster was cooked to perfection) Third course - Prime Filet Mignon (the filet was done just right and he loved the bok Choy) We ended our meal with dessert I must recommend the sticky bread cake! 1770 House is located in a historic home in East Hampton. We visited for dinner and really enjoyed our night. The restaurant offered a two-course prix fixe menu (which now seems to be a three-course menu). There was a local influence in many of the options for each course (which you choose), and they were all quite tasty. We tried the spicy montauk fluke tartare and a salad to start. The tartare had a great flavor and wasn't too spicy. The beet and endive salad was nice as well. We then tried the halibut and chicken as our mains, which were solid. The halibut had a lovely flavor (but was pretty salty), and the chicken was perfectly cooked (but could have used more seasoning) and came on a flavorful risotto bed. The ambience is great. We didn't sit in the main dining roll but instead in the "tavern" downstairs. We were the only ones there for much of our night, so it was terrifically peaceful and quiet. Came here recently for my birthday and was very pleased. First off, I absolutely loved the ambiance. You're instantly taken back in time to the age of George Washington and colonial times. It almost feels like a museum turned into a restaurant/bed and breakfast. Secondly, the minute we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome and lead right to our table. We came on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was fairly quiet, which was nice. We immediately ordered a bottle of white wine with oysters. The oysters were great. Sadly, the wine did not meet our expectations and we had to return the bottle, but the waiter was happy to let us pick another bottle. In the meantime he got me an amazing glass of bubbles for the oysters. Nice work! Luckily the second bottle of French white we ordered was much better. The sommelier even came over and apologized to us. Now for the most important part, the food. The spicy fluke tartare was outstanding. The flavor combination of wasabi tobiko gave the fluke a nice kick. We also thoroughly enjoyed the striped bass crudo. Light and refreshing. Perfect for summer. For an entrée I had the scallops, which were to die for. The Chanterelles & Black Garlic sauce really made the dish. I could have licked the plate clean. My date had the swordfish which was also excellent. For desert I had the Lemon Curd and Blueberry Trifle which was actually a lot better than I anticipated! I am not a desert person, I don't like all the fake sugar, heavy cream, and overly filling cake. I didn't even want to order anything! Luckily the Lemon Curd and Blueberry Trifle exceeded my expectations. The blueberries were very fresh and the lemon flavor gave it a nice sweet and sour taste. It was a great combination of cake, blueberries and lemon curd in a mason jar. Yum. Service was great, our waiter was very personable and chatty and brought our food out in a timely matter (not too fast and didn't have us waiting for hours either). He also knew the menu very well and you could tell had been there for years, very passionate about the restaurant and the food. Great spot! read more
