Loved the build your own pizza option and I applaud you for having a nondairy cheese option. Our only recommendation is watch the flatbread pizza cook time. Good reliable food within walking distance of the ferry terminal and decent prices. Our group of four was seated on the patio and was able to conveniently enjoy live music coming from Captain Nicks. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, typical American food. The burgers and mac and cheese are the best! They even have an actual smoker going, so I would recommend trying the smoked chicken or pulled pork. Most of the entrees come with potato chips, so if you would like fries make sure to ask and know that it will be an upcharge. If your looking for a place where you can be super chatty with the wait staff, poor people's pub is not it, well atleast our waitress was not very talkative. Although it wasn't busy, she forget our appetizer and said she wasn't able to make any modifications to any food items. Waited for 70min after being told it would be a 30min wait. A large table opened up next to us (they're virtual waiting room indicated we were 1st in line) and we were told that we would have to wait an additional 30-40min for the hostess to go through all the 5 person parties prior to us even being given the option. Fun vibe, we sat outside at the end of June and admired beautiful hydrangeas in shaded picnic tables under a pergola. Great for kids to roam around and watch also the hustle bustle on the street. Food was good! Kids pizza sizes were so big considering their were off kids menu! BBQ pulled pork pizza was great and honey BBQ was a nice touch. Power salad was delightful too. Unfortunately veggie burger was poor texture and much too soggy, not well formed. Extremely Disappointing Experience I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this visit left me frustrated and honestly shocked. The staff was incredibly rude from the moment we walked in--unwelcoming and short with us throughout. We asked for a simple modification to a dish (due to a food allergy) and were told flat out "we don't do changes" with zero flexibility or concern. When the food arrived, it tasted like it had been pulled straight from a freezer and microwaved--bland, rubbery, and absolutely not fresh. For the price, I expected at least something cooked properly. To top it off, I noticed that a gratuity had been added automatically without our approval, even though we were a small party. Absolutely loved this pub. Among other high ticket bars and restaurants among the island this is the perfect place to seek refuge. The menu was really filled with options and I ended up getting a sausage pie with bacon and it was 10/10. We sat at the bar so the service was right there whenever we needed the bartender- even with a full bar, she was great. Gotta try this place for sure! read more

We love this place! They're one of the first places on the island to open in the spring, and one of the last to close in the fall. They have a huge smoker set up outside with delicious BBQ that comes off of it all day. And their honey pizza is AMAZING. read more

A marginal three .... Food was pretty good. Appetizer 'sampler' was good with PLENTY of food. Wife's greek salad was good. I ordered the burnt end sausage & here comes the issue. I try to stay away from carbs & "wasted ones" especially. For example, well done home fries that are actually deep fried are not wasted & are delicious!!! I ordered without roll since I wouldn't eat it & would go to waste. Sandwich comes as ordered with a little onions, should've been more.... The problem is when we get the bill, they CHARGED me for the change!!!!!! Was at a diner in Narragansett that when I ordered no toast actually credited me $1!!! It's a bit of a walk to get to Poor People's Pub from the ferry dock. If you are on a bike, scooter or in a car, there are a couple of parking spots in front. They have a front porch over looking the parking area with four tables and a larger seating area on the side yard. The hostess sat us on the front porch at a table for two. This is a very low brow establishment. The kind of place young men come for beers and there were plenty of young men inside doing just that. I suppose that makes it a young ladies spot as well if you're looking to catch someone's eye for a little vacation romance. ;D The outdoor tables on the porch were raw edge wood with plastic chairs. There is a basket on the table with mustard, ketchup, mayo, napkins and plastic forks and knives. The tables were placed very close together so we moved ours a bit to make more room as one of you will sit back to back with the next table guest. Our waitress came out quickly to take a drink order. I asked for a water with lemon, she repeated it, and brought out a water without lemon. Actually, I get the lemon because some restaurants have terrible tasting water and as the water here was good, I left it. She seemed to be in a rush for us to order, checking on us three times in about five minutes. I wanted to try their grass-fed beef burger, but it has bacon on it. Pork and I have a love-hate relationship. I love it. It hates me. Like, really, really hates me. So, I asked if I could remove the bacon. She suggested a different burger without bacon. I explained that I have a food sensitivity to pork/bacon and I really wanted to try their grass-fed beef burger. She didn't say anything, and went off to place the order. It took a reasonable amount of time for the food to come out considering how busy the outdoor seating areas were. The inside had a couple of big parties, and a few folks at the bar as well. She did check on us a couple of times after the food arrived so it was all good. The food here is pub-grub. Sandwiches, burgers, pizza. The prices don't exactly scream 'poor man', but you're on an island, during vacation season, and they weren't exactly exorbitant either. If you are expecting low prices and quality food, you will be satisfied with neither. It's not a gastropub. The menu has plenty of 'add-on' items at additional cost, like add meat to your mac n' cheese or a side salad to your sandwich. The grass-fed beef patty was pretty bland, even with the Cabot cheddar cheese, which usually has a nice sharp quality, although I suppose they could be using a more mild cheddar version. No seasoning was used when cooking. Adding mustard helped a bit. My SO had the pulled pork and he was not satisfied with his choice. Both are served with wavy chips that are nice and greasy. Their outdoor bulletin board lists live music and a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights so the pub turns into a dance club after dinner. Good to know if you are looking for a bit of night time excitement on quiet Block Island. I went off to the ladies while my husband flagged down the waitress for our bill. The restrooms are labeled 'wipe it' (that's you ladies) and 'shake it' (that's you gents). There is also a single bathroom signed for anyone. The restrooms were clean, lots of TP. When I came back from the restroom the look on my hubby face made me ask what's up. It seems my request to remove bacon from the burger incurred a 'special order' fee of one dollar. He was a bit put off that we paid full price for a burger with fewer ingredients and then were penalized with an additional dollar so I would not vomit all over their table. We would completely understand an upcharge for adding additional ingredients, but this is a health issue, not a personal desire to not eat pork. It literally makes me ill, as explained when ordering. Order it exactly as on the menu, or expect an additional charge for the convenience of customizing your meal. More than the minimal cost, it's that the waitress did not point out this was a 'special order' and as noted at the very bottom of the menu, 'may' incur a fee. This would have given me the option to change my selection, which I would have done. Perhaps she was in too much of a hurry to allow me that choice. The business does not make exception for persons with food allergies which are totally out of their control. It should say that on the menu as well, just to be clear. All together, I would not return, but it many be just up your alley, especially if you like live music or a DJ in the evenings. Although it was a different beer, prices here were about three dollars less than at the waterfront bar we visited later in the day so that's an incentive and from observation during our visit, it seem to be a spot where the young are happy come hang out over a few beers. read more

I have not tried their food, but my friend likes to go here for drinks. I joined him one Sunday and it was so different from other spots on Block Island. It wasn't brightly lit with servers running around in aprons. This was your everyday ol' dark bar for regulars. It was a nice change of scenery and felt more like night life vibe after work. Also I love that the prices for cocktails are not extremely high like the other places. Average price is $11/12, which should be more normalized. My friend and I sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly. We ordered the $3 mystery shot, which they pour from a bottle wrapped in a paper bag so you don't even know what the color is until they pour it. Ours was yellow. I couldn't tell you what the flavor was, but it was something like pineapple and tequilla...or maybe rum, I don't know haha. It was good though. For my main drink, I ordered a White Squall Sangria. We both handed our IDs over and she took mine to the back for 10 minutes coming back out to ask me to fill out a form saying if my ID is fake they are not liable for anything that happens to me. Given I am 25 years old and my ID is Massachusetts Real ID with the Gold Star and everything for the TSA travel. Do better and go elsewhere. read more

My family and I have visited this spot a handful of times over the years and have come out as fans of the food and atmosphere. Our experience tonight, however, gave us a glimpse into the decline of the restaraunt and will prevent us from returning. When given our food, one of our orders (chicken Caesar salad) was forgotten. The server showed no regret. When it came out, the chicken was so dry to the point where it could not be eaten. I ordered the steak frites sandwich for $21, and was let down when I was delivered half a sandwich. The steak also lacked the tenderness and punch of flavor I was hoping for. One person in our party ordered a double burger, and the patties were the size of my palm, with the appearance of a breakfast sausage. We were told they were smash burgers, but they clearly looked like frozen patties in all honesty. Another person in our party ordered the buffalo Mac and cheese, and it came out half the size it has been in the past. Our server was unfortunately very impersonal and a little snappy when we brought the poor quality of food to her attention. I've ultimately come to the conclusion that this is a tourist spot - high prices for low quality food. Plenty of other great spots on the island read more

I have been going to poor people's pub for many many years and have always loved the food and the service here, but my most recent trip came with quite the issue. My group ordered a side salad with our meal, and we clarified that we wanted a small salad (which typically comes with sandwiches and other menu items). Our server then brought out a salad that was very large and like 15 bucks, and we said a couple of times that we won't eat it and that it was a misunderstanding. We did not want to pay that extra money for something we did not order. Our server said that we should have known not to order it and said that they knew what we meant with our order but was unable to do it. Was very upset with this service and had no explanation as to why we could not get a refund on the menu item. Would love to hear from the poor peoples team about this. Thank you. We understand now that it's not a *listed* item on the menu, but we feel that she should've expressed that before we ordered instead of charging us for something we didn't order anyway. The black bean burger is just tasteless mush. I'm not sure it was fully cooked. I was hungry and tried to eat it just for the sustenance but gave up after eating half of it. Mac and cheese is macaroni swimming in a "soup" of watery cheese. Didn't touch that. I was also annoyed that they won't modify any item on the menu, such as leaving off an ingredient or substituting one. If you're drunk and don't care if you get crappy drunk bar food, go here. Always a destination stop after a long day of exploring block island. The place has many smoked offerings, and if you hit the pub on a day when the outdoor smoker is on, the aroma is wonderful. We usually get a HUGE order of the "junk fries" or nachos, which has the American yellow liquid cheese that we all love. The "road island stuffie" is a MUST... it's a large stuffed clam that is a wonderful mix of chorizo spicyness with nice size chunked clam and seasoned breading. The WINGS we ordered (Teriaki flavor" had a fantastic crispness. Wash it down with a local "Narragansett" beer and all is well with the world. read more

It pains me to write this review. Poor Peoples was always a go-to on the Island. The stuffies were amazing. I would order extra, uncooked, freeze them, and take them back with me a few times each year. We have had them only once this summer, before today. They have big chunks of green peppers and no taste. Today, we tried again. Same thing, only this time they came with no shell, the bottom was charred black, and yet they were cold. Next came the Forager Pizza. It is supposed to have mushrooms on it.
