I used to frequent Ernie's multiple mornings but haven't made it over here for a while. Since that time they have updated their menu to include a wide array of breakfast staples like pancakes, French toast, omelette, etc. as well an impressive selection of specialty items for gluten free options, eggs benedicts, etc. Definitely recommend. 10/10 making Ernie's a go-to breakfast stop again on my travels. read more

This place was a great first stop off of the ferry. Seems we were late to the party and were told outdoor seating was full. So we were seated inside. I ordered a simple egg sandwich with mayo and lettuce on sourdough. It was so simple and so good. The boyfriend ordered a version of the eggs Benedict and was a little underwhelmed. By the look of the restaurant, I assumed this place was everything homemade. It didn't taste very homemade with pre packaged breads and cheese slices. The prices were high for what we got. Service was a little weird. You waited for a table but then no server comes over to you. We sat at the bar and figured it would be quicker, but that didn't happen. Eventually someone came over and asked if we wanted water and walked away before we could put in food. Service was slow and I noticed one server hanging by the window instead of talking to any customers. When we finished eating, it wasn't clear how to pay. I saw a few customers hanging by a register in the corner. Since we were at the bar, I figured it would be easier to pay. Again....no haha. There was no sign stating so but it is cash only. Luckily we all had cash. I would try a different place for breakfast on my next trip. read more

Earnie's is a great little spot for breakfast where locals and tourists dine side by side in relative harmony. Basic American fare. Eggs, french toast, pancakes, hash, etc. Everything we ordered was very good. The stand out item for me was the home made sour dough toast and the coffee was excellent as well. The owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating. The prices are also very fair for a restaurant in a touristy area. I look forward to forward to our next visit to Earnies. read more

The location was great... directly across the afeeet from the ferry and ballads. Server was friendly and professional. Make sure you bring cash, they do not accept credit cards. There's an ATM inside, but of course you'll pay high fees so get cash before you get to the island. Be prepared to use plastic silverware. The food was bleh. Maybe its because I'm not used to greasy food, but I ordered a breakfast burrrito and the amount of grease that spilled off of it was gross. The bacon seemed half cooked and probably the cause of the excess grease. My sister had avocado toast with eggs. She ordered a side of home fries (these were very good) It was basic. Nothing exciting, but not bad. Food definitely looked better than it tasted Overall decent, but should've listened to the previous reviews. You've read it all and we've experienced it all. Ernie's has its ups and downs...like most restaurants. Let's face it, it's a diner on an island surrounded by fussy. But, you get a great breakfast...basic, great coffee, great view inside and out. All at a reasonable price. Where on this island can you get this simple, no fuss no muss? Bethany's ?- but no harbor view. So, leave your pretenses at the door and enjoy your breakfast like the rest of us who have been coming for over 30 years+. Let's start with the food. At first glance we thought we found a gem. Menu was awesome, with lots of homemade items. We we were a party of 4 and each had something different so I will review them individually. 1. Avocado toast ingredients looked awesome except for the charred black toast. So burnt it was not edible. The chef should have just changed the toast before it came out. No chef should ever allow that to leave a kitchen. 2. Eggs Benedict with homemade hollandaise. The sauce had me excited but the sauce was broke meaning the ingredients separated and it looked like yellow oil on eggs with under done English muffin. Ham was awesome eggs were perfect. 3. Ok. Here is the worst. BEC on a Homemade biscuit. The biscuit looked grey and underdone and was missing the bacon. It was impossible to eat as a sandwich and was just plain not good. 4. The best for last.. classic egg over breakfast with bacon, home fries and English muffin. All was good except they delivered with the wrong hash browns and the toasted English muffin was underdone and came out when everybody else was trying to get through there poorly made breakfast. On from the food and to the service. We had a new waiter who was very nice, and very apologetic for the chefs mistakes. We like him and he put his best foot forward. The hostess on the other hand was so nasty to him and another new staffer, and she berated and humiliated them in front of all the customers making everybody feel uncomfortable. She was just a nasty person and needs to take some anger management course. Maybe a daily walk around the Labyrinth would would help her find some inner peace and calm. Location and venue was great. Real utensils would have been nice. That's all folks but you be your judge. This was not our friends first visit to Ernie's and the had a much better experience last year. read more

Me and my friends were looking for a place to have breakfast..first it was a wait which we don't mind but the real debacle is the wait to be served.. we sat there for almost 20 min and no one approached us..the we finally got to order.. the wait is frustrating.. we just ordered a simple breakfast that consist of scrambled eggs and hash brown and omelette.. it took another 30 min to come through. The server was a little snotty.. there was no utensils... she has the audacity to ask us if we want utensils.. what does she expect? Use our hands to eat the food.. it was overwhelming.. Nasty people with an attitude, 45 mins wait for a piece of coffee cake, 20 mins to order, asked 3x for water. An hour wait for eggs with bacon and a bagel with eggs, after 45 mins we were told no english muffin and we subbed a bagel. Asked for a knife to cut it in half and it showed up after i sawed thru bagel with plastic knife 10 mins later. Asked for a check and our server sam walked away, asked for it again and she pulled it out of her back pocket. Another table had an issue with a drink and she stood there admonishing a kid with her hands on her hips. Another customer was yelled at by a weight challenged server because she didnt wait long enough for the check (15 mins). Another couple almost missed their ferry due to their wait of an hour for a breakfast wrap. I would rather eat dirt then go back again . Place and people need a major attitude adjustment. read more

although the home fries were good that was about it. When we first got into the restaurant we are led to our seats by our waiter who boxes her self between our seat and the wall. What do i do ? back up ! but no ? there was another waiter behind me who was old and i believe she was the owner and when i backed up she yells loud enough for everyone eating to hear " woah watch where your going man!" Not to mention while we were eating i heard her and another waiter talking about someone who didn't tip and how they hope horrific things to her that i can not say on yelp. My friends and I decided to celebrate one of our friend's birthday and decided to take a drive down to Point Judith and take a ferry from there to Block Island. It was a blessed trip! Our early morning started with a breakfast at Ernie's. They only take cash or Venmo. So it's a good thing I had Venmo since none of us had cash. The place could really use an update, but it does have that vibe of a restaurant near the ocean. We ate outside with a beautiful view of the harbor. Our waitress wasn't the most pleasant human ever, but she did her job well. I ordered a delicious veggie omelette. We all enjoyed our food, juice, and company. I really thought I would eat up my omelette but to my dismay I found a piece of hair at the end of my meal! I was disgusted, but didn't want to create a scene by telling our waitress. She kinda scared me. Overall, I think it's a great breakfast place. Perhaps they should renovate a bit and work on their hygiene as well as their friendliness though. read more

Such a cute restaurant, the breakfast was so good! They have an indoor and outdoor seating and we sat inside. I got the special with 2 eggs, home fries, bacon and toast as well as an iced coffee. For people who like flavored coffee (I know I do) they have flavored creamer that you can put in the coffee and it was so good. They have their own type of home fries that are fantastic! This place has very good prices compared to other restaurants on block island and I would definitely return and recommend to a friend! read more

Fantastic breakfast spot located right in Old Harbor. If you are staying anywhere around there it's within walking distance m. The outdoor seating (only thing that was open back in June during the pandemic) is on a porch that overlooks the ferries and is located right about the parking area. The breakfast options are nice, everything from eggs Benedict to pancakes and all in between. They have a little cart with one time use condiments they bring around due to the current state of affairs and are very clean, the tables distanced as well. This is hands down the best breakfast on island. Family owned small business with the owner as the chef. They care. Very consistent! Even if there is a little bit of a wait sitting out front is a great waiting spot. Vegetarian options are great and the services is always on point! The view from the back deck is my favorite on island. You get to watch the ferries come in. If you prefer to sit inside you're greeted with a hometown feel a good cup of coffee and hot yummy food. Service was good. Seating area is nice. Most of the ingredients in my eggs Benedict were right out of the freezer. Spinach was literally thawed and put on top, no addl seasoning. Even the $2.50 half-avocado that came on the side had been frozen. Home fries were room temp and seemed leftover from another day. French toast was toast without the French. So, I was here with bf and his family yesterday and breakfast was great. Our waitress was wonderful, wasn't the owner. This morning, I had totally burnt toast and luke warm sausages whereas my bf's dad had a normal looking toast with his breakfast steaming. Didn't want to bring it to their attention cause didn't want to ruin it for everyone. Yes, I know, I should have, but I'm literally the ONLY Asian here and I'm feeling the not so good vibes from the owner that was serving us this morning. One star for location. We went for breakfast. Friends, locals, the gal at hotel reception all said Ernie's is the place for breakfast. Not today it wasn't. Inattentive server (asked 2x for cream; never got it, so we borrowed it from a nearby table; asked 2x for check), weak coffee, no home fries (10am breakfast with about 4 other diners in the place), lukewarm scrambled eggs. Although the food was good, I had an incredibly unpleasant experience with the service here that will deter me from coming back. I went last week with two friends for brunch. I wanted to order an omelette, but have a milk allergy and needed to check whether it would be possible to make the omelette with no milk mixed with the eggs. The server was very friendly. She said she was new and would bring over the owner to help me. When the owner came over, she was rude from the get-go. She brusquely said they did mix milk with the eggs. When I asked if it would be possible to crack two fresh eggs and not add milk, she rudely said she did not know if the kitchen would do it and that they were very busy. She treated me as if I were trying to personally inconvenience her, and I was astonished since this seemed like a very simple request and the restaurant was only half full. I stared at my friends in disbelief as the owner walked away without any further resolution of the issue. The owner suddenly turned around and yelled at me, asking if I had said something about her, which I had not; I was just sitting there. I very calmly said that I had not, but that I felt upset that I was a customer and was being treated very rudely. Her response: "Well that's not my fault, it's your attitude." My friends and I were dumbfounded. Our waitress apologized profusely for our experience, and said she would talk to the kitchen about the dairy allergy. The kitchen was totally happy to crack two fresh eggs, and the rest of the meal went smoothly. I'm glad that our waitress was able to remedy our experience and work out the food issue, but I was astonished that the owner of a restaurant would behave so rudely to customers. The food itself was good; a typical breakfast omelette. It was a bit pricy, but not unreasonable when compared to other restaurants on Block Island. Overall, had we not had such an unpleasant experience with the owner, we probably would have enjoyed the meal. Bottom line: I would caution anyone with food allergies to stay clear of this restaurant, as the owner was flat-out hostile. Honestly, I don't think I could recommend this place to anyone, since I think all restaurants should treat customers with respect. read more

We enjoyed Ernie's breakfast so much that we visited two days in a row on our recent visit to BI. It's a small space, so you're going to get cozy with your neighbors, and it gets crowded quickly, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. The food is standard greasy spoon breakfast fare, but it's well prepared, less expensive than the hotel restaurants, and served quickly. Service was very prompt and friendly, and the coffee wasn't half bad either. Overall, if you want a good, basic breakfast, I'd definitely suggest hitting up Ernie's (on the early side). read more

My only complaint was coffee refills weren't free. Each refill for coffee was $3.50. What should have been a reasonable breakfast was over $50. Don't order refills. Great Bfast in 8/24/18! It was jam packed but we got two spots at the counter. Our waitress (owner) was super sweet. She was happy and kind to our "touristy" questions and demeanor. The staff should be tired and sick of all of us- but they weren't! It was super quick and yummy. My friend ordered a side chocolate chip pancake...wow!
