    The polish bunched up
    Laura S.

Possibly the worst (and most expensive) "spa" mani-pedi I have ever had!! Unbelievably bad! They did not fully clean feet or hands and did a poor job of foot and hand nail prep. There was very little massage for the pedi and none for the mani. And they wrapped some paper around your feet and left you sitting for 20 minutes with a jet of steam directed at your feet. I suppose that was the "spa" part. In addition, the tech did a monumentally poor job on my nails, using polish that was obviously lumpy and partially dried. I tried pointing that out, but she ignored it. Pictures of the result, 10 minutes after leaving this "salon" are attached. The tech was indifferent and uncommunicative The place is tiny.with a very limited choice of colors. They do not have massage chairs. They have these bizarre padded velvet chairs (how clean could they be?) teetering on a 5 foot high platform, that you have to climb up to because of course there is no regular stair to it. if one of these chairs fell, it would seriously harm the person sitting in it. Then you have to try to climb down it without falling. It's a precarious and bizarre situation. And here's the kicker: The cost of a mani-pedi, per person, ended up being $145 dollars and they don't post the prices anywhere. That included a mandatory $25 "tip" for the inept nail tech. Don't waste your money or your time here.

    Valentines nails by Sunni

Super cute location. The service was amazing. I'm very happy with my nails. And they are centrally located in the water tower on Michigan Avenue. Sunni was so sweet and did a great job!

Dublin Green with a turquoise chrome finish. You can see the one finger that the chrome didn't stay on.

Cool vibe, and my nail technician "Aesl" was the sweetest. However, a nail salon that doesn't have a sink to wash your hands is a red flag. They don't work with dip. They don't use acetone or foil to remove gel/ dip. They break out the tools and shave it off which means it heats up your nails and burns. Funny enough I still have a purple color, then they added my new gel on top. I got a chrome finish, but one of my fingers didn't take. The color is still pretty. Recommendations: 1) New techniques to remove dip and gel without destroying the nail itself. 2) Have functional sinks and running water for your customers who are receiving manicures.

Amazing service! Especially for what I asked for. As an expressive woman EVERYTHING about me has to stand out-- especially my hair and nails. I was in need of a nail tech who's in tune with their creative process and Camile was that tech! When you first walk in it smells amazingggg. As for the salon it self?? A literal pink wonderland! Me being a girlie that loves all things pink I felt right at home. The vibe of the salon didn't give regular "neighborhood " salon and neither did the work. I wanted to try duck nails, a nail that's really popular right now and I couldn't find anyone who could catch the vibe I was looking for. But when I showed Camile a inspo photo she worked her magic ! I'll def be coming back.

2 weeks after my pedicure silver chrome not true silver services just OK
    Diana G.

I am really felt ambivalent about writing this review simply because I do care deeply about the reputation of any small, independently owned business; however I need to get my experience off my chest. About two weeks ago I called the receptionist here who I believe is the owner and explained to her that I desperately needed a same day appointment and I live right nearby. She was extremely kind and asked if I could come right over within ten minutes so I said yes and told her I have issues with curve of two of my nails on my large toe and that my ingrown nails really hurt badly if I don't get regular pedicures. I just had time when I called so I rushed over and was told to wait for a manicurist. I think I waited about 15 minutes and they had me sit on a chair on an elevated platform and I explained that I'd like a chrome pedicure and requested pink and silver chrome colors. The owner offered me a 20% discount and another young lady explained to me that they aren't allowed to cut into any ingrown nails because that is something only a podiatrist can do. I've been to many nails salons where my manicurist was successful at removing dead skin and allowing me to feel less pressure but that's not what happened here. My manicurist was from Russia and she told me she spoke little English which was not an issue for me. The reason I'm leaving three stars here is because she didn't use cotton and acetone to remove my old no chip pedicure product off my toes. She used her nail drill to remove the old product which isn't the preferred method to use. Using a nail drill on your toes might be more expedient but it truly isn't good for your nail beds. I should know because it's only happened to me once before and it definitely weakened my toenails. Another major issue is the fact that my manicurist used the nail drill head to remove my rough callouses from the bottom of my feet and where my ingrown nails are. I'm not used to having a professional use a nail drill for these purposes. My service was extremely expensive even with the 20 percent discount applied so there should have been a disposable buffer used or some salt scrubs used for this process in lieu of the tip of a nail drill. I paid around $88 for a chrome pedicure which includes a tip built in my nail technician and the staff had trouble finding the right color of pink chrome so they made her remove the original color and had her reapply the new pink chrome that they found somewhere in the back. She was extremely patient but my pedicure didn't include a massage and my ingrown nails weren't soaked off properly. I really didn't feel comfortable here considering how much my nail technician relied on the drill to take off dead skin from my nailbed, my feet and removing old product. These prices don't reflect a good value for your money because the services aren't delivered in a hygienic or professional manner. I can't recommend this salon because of these reasons and my review is non emotional and completely honest. I've never had a manicure here just a chrome pedicure so I have no clue how their manicures are but I don't feel comfortable returning based on this experience. I've also included photos of my chrome pedicure after two weeks. She did a good job with the shape of the nails and the chrome didn't chip. I was just disappointed with the service because she overused the nail drill for multiple purposes. You should never use a nail drill to remove dead skin from your feet or remove ingrown nails.

Wasn't even going to bother with this review, but my experience has been SOO TERRIBLE that it needs to be shared. This nail place has been working with influencers to grow their brand. All their photos they post online look amazing. I had agreed to come in for a gel-x with a Russian manicure for free in exchange for a Google review, several Instagram stories, and a reel. I had Sunni as my tech and while she was very friendly and I loved talking with her, my cuticles were bleeding. I left and didn't think twice about my nails until I looked at them and realized all of them were an uneven shape, crooked, and the nail overlay was WAYY too big on my nail. A week later they all began to fall off (they advertise their service as lasting 4-6 weeks). I had told Tracey I could not honestly post anything about them to share with my followers as I was so unhappy with them and do not share anything else I love the product myself. Tracey was very apologetic and offered me to come back in and have the service redone with a senior nail tech. While I was appreciative, it was not worth my time to drive, pay for parking, and tip. I would HIGHLY caution you with this nail salon. Wasn't even going to bother with this review, but my experience has been SOO TERRIBLE that it needs to be shared. First time done, nail was chipping.
    Erica W.

I'm not one to usually post reviews but with the quality of nails that I received, I felt the need to share my story. Over a week ago (the Saturday before Halloween), I got a full acrylic set done for $85 plus tip. The night I got them done, I had issues with breakage and the gel chipping. At first, I brushed it off as me just being rough with my nails, as I am hard on my nails as I'm a very hands-on person. But as the days went on, I had other nails break and chip and reveal soft gel underneath, as if it wasn't fully dry. I called and they got me in and fix the three nails that I was having issues with. Cut to the very next day, the nails that I just got replaced began chipping again. Upset and frustrated that my nails weren't holding up after I had spent over $100 to get them done. I went back in and got them fixed today. however, it is not even six hours later, and I am experiencing the same issue with the nail chipping and revealing soft, undried gel beneath. I am overall left frustrated with the quality of the products for the gel that I received. They did not hold up. Gel is supposed to be non-chipping and it's supposed to hold up for at least three weeks, but the gel that I continue to get at the salon isn't good at all. That all being said, the technician that I had was very nice and took care to make sure that my nails looked good, which leads me to believe that the product is the problem. Having been to the same technician three times, I do not feel that it was the technician's fault. Again, they were very sweet and attentive. But because of the quality of the products that they used, I do not feel like I will be going back, because I have experienced the same issue with at least 2 different types of gel.

I absolutely love this salon. It is conveniently located in the Water Place Mall on the 5th floor. The ambiance is fun yet relaxing and a variety of services are offered. I had been looking for a shop that did Apres nails and this shop does. This method of nails and application stays on a few weeks and the shape is perfect. An appointment can be scheduled and walk-ins are welcome upon availability. Thank you, Joy, for this fabulous experience and service.!

Coffin Gel X Nail extensions in matte with shiny french tips by Bibi

I came in to That Colour Nails referred by friends and after seeing all their great work online. I always get no-chip and wanted to try something new. Bibi was my technician and she was very helpful in helping me find the shape, color and design I wanted. We went with a coffin Gel X Nail extensions in matte with shiny french tips-- perfect for Fall! They have a great selection of colors available and the place is just great! It is very conveniently located on the 5th floor at Water Tower Place and they offer nails but also cryo services. They have an event planner that can help you customize a gettogether at their salon! Be sure to check out their daily specials including free valet when you spend $100+, complimentary soak-off for gel & acrylic sets as a new client, and many other regular-client specials. Treat yourself to some retail therapy on Magnificent Mile and be sure to top it off with a spa day at That Colour Nails!

stopped by on a whim to get a standard manicure- then decided to get a gel manicure I'd walk out and just be done. after only a couple hours and while washing my hands 2 nail colors just "popped off". then getting into bed 3 more gone! Business offered to redo next day so thought " ok they'll make it good". Mani redone - still gel but lumps, bumps, & uneven color. Was told I'd receive a 1st time customer discount- nope. Was also told I'd receive a discount as I had to return for fix- nope! Also while seated for redo- overheard 2 other customers come in with complaints of quality of mail service. Not certain everyone working there is licensed? just a warning- customer beware......

i went 2 (TNC) for my BIRFDAY nails, i was excited all week long for my appointment since I hadn't had my nails done in over a month. I was scheduled with Brittni, she was professional. I let her know that I am a nail tech (20+ years), particular and I was fine with hard gel or acrylic, HOWEVER, I wanted  her to build an APEX on my nails; so whichever, gel/acrylic she was more comfortable with or could build the apex with I was fine with paying 4 the service. The acrylic was 85$ the gel was 75$, i also wanted designs for my birthday nails. With this being communicated by me she suggested we use acrylic to better build an apex. Brittni is laying the acrylic on thick although the product she was using wasn't thick. I assume she will fix the apex with filing at the end, some techs lay the product to get the look you want others shape the look with filing.  As she starts filing i let her know I'm used to the product being flush/thin at the cuticles and side walls as well as the tip (see photo attached)...this is how I do my own nails and I use hard gel on my nails. She takes the file and runs it on top of my nails to flatten the thickness however, there is still a hump/rise from the cuticle. I knew i had to show pictures of the art work I wanted but i didn't think i had to show how the product should look...my natural nails are small. The receptionist & manager were cool they gave me a slight discount due to my bday. As Brittni was polishing she said the apres' nails would have given me a natural apex!!! (I've  never used Apres') So y didnt do that?! I was extremely irritated and I didn't express how I don't care for my nails because, I did not have time. My appointment was at 4, i was early and left (TCN) at close to 7. I paid 90$ something dollars for these nails/chiclets. If she couldn't do what I asked I would have liked to have known that and I could have just chosen to do a no chip, I also wanted more designs and I'm glad I didn't get that either since i didn't have time and the design she did was sloppy to me. I am now on the hunt for a nail salon again! I do my own toes but, i don't feel like doing my nails. I was hoping to love my birthday nails & That Colour Nail salon since I frequent downtown....O well!!!

    finish product

I've visited the salon a handful of times and each time I'm left satisfied. Jen is the nail tech I've seen the most and she's great - super patient and technically skilled. The atmosphere of the salon is great - fun, girly, pink - I love it! The pedicures here are also the best that I've experienced. I walk a lot which makes for not-so-soft soles but the e-file pedis here leaves me with baby soft soles. Highly recommend

They did both my manicure and pedicure at the same time, something I've never experienced before. The person doing my manicure sat off to the side of the pedicure 'chair' which meant I had to sort of awkwardly twist my body so he could reach both hands (while at the same time trying to keep my legs 'straight' for the pedicure). At one point he was sanding down my nails for the manicure at the same time the person doing my pedicure was exfoliating my feet. Well, I'm ticklish, and I warned of this at the beginning. So she's exfoliating my feet, and I keep 'jumping' because it tickles, while someone else has a Dreme tool on my hands. Like I said, stressful (though I will acknowledge doing both at the same time got me finished in record time. The person who did my pedicure cut my toenails realllllly short. She never asked if I wanted them cut or what was a good length (I did want them trimmed, but not that short). My nails were very uneven-both across different hands and on one nail. For example, my two thumbs have noticeably different nail lengths. Also, a couple of my nails are visibly uneven-if you look at them they 'slant' instead of going straight across (I asked for square nails). I might give them another shot, but would definitely want to do my hands and toes separately. Even still, I'm not sure, as the quality wasn't great.
