I wish I had known of this place 15 years ago! This lady is AMAZING!!! And I'm still in disbelief she only charged me $9 for my son's lineup! Even though I've always felt barbers charge too much for a lineup, because my son gets the top braided and just needs the back & sides lined up, but most barbers still charge the same as they do for an entire head. She does AMAZING - INCREDIBLY fast work! I thought I misheard her telling the people before us how much. But nope, she has great prices! We walked in at 5:20, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get his hair lined up before his 1st day of school. She was finishing up one boys hair, he had straight blonde hair, then there was a 2nd boy who had thick black hair, the 3rd person was a teenage girl who got I'd say 4 inches cut off, was super cute, and then an adult male before my son. Everyone of them walked out looking fresh. My son got a line up, and looks great. She did all 5 people in less than an hour! I used to sit for hours in barber shops, sometimes even when I had an appointment. And most of the time it was only 1-2 people ahead of us. So I'm telling you, give her a try! You will save a ton of money & time. And, my son usually has burns/scrapes from the clippers, he has none! It's cash only, so if I was to make a complaint, it would be the $3.50 fee at the 7-11 cash machine near by, so bring cash. Literally my go to barbershop when I'm in Tacoma, Thao is very nice and the only problem is that it is usually very busy and popular, sometimes you have to wait about 30 minutes because of how popular it is. It is definitely worth the wait though, the price is also very affordable. I got a pretty nice haircut in Seattle for about $25 but in Tacoma it's way cheaper. I've been in Tacoma for about 10 months now and I've been to a few different barbershops in that time. Before this my home was in California and I'd been going to the same barbers for 15-16 years. I think I finally found a place I will definitely be returning to. I walked in on a tuesday morning and there was one guy getting his hair cut and two guys waiting. As I sat down two other people came in together, another guy came in a bit after and then two other guys as the time went on. To be that busy on a tuesday morning, you must be doing something right. It could be the great $7 price point or the fact that she does give a pretty awesome cut. I can't wait to go back. That massage was excellent too. UPDATE (9/19/14): It has now been over 2 years since I started coming to Thao's and I am still extremely happy. But, if you come in right before closing you'll be in and out in no time. I visit this place on a monthly basis. If you visit while it is busy, there is a lot of magazines to read. No way!! I went there with my wife so we both can get a trim. When she was done with me, in five minutes, she was asked to trim my wifes long long hair. When the barber was done, it looked like she grabbed my wifes hair and hacked off over 12 inches of length. The lady stated my wifes hair was really bad and that much needed to come off. We both asked for her to return the hair. The barber said she tossed it away. My wife said, its worth 300$ on Hairsellon.com and we want it back. She started to ignore us. She is cash only, does not give receipts, and her hair tools are never washed or cleaned before use on others. We did not notice that till we went there the next day and tried to resolve this issue. So I've been going to another Barber for almost a year, He does a decent job, most haircuts are good, but he'll jack it up if hes having an off day. I also wasn't cool with spending 20 bucks (including tip) every couple of weeks for a haircut that will either be on point or messed up. So I looked on Yelp and saw that Thao's was only 5 minutes away versus the 15 minutes drive I would make to my usual barber, plus this place only charges $8 (not including tip!) Nearly half of what I usually pay for a cut. I drive to the place and walk in and there are 3 guys ahead of me. No big deal, I have time considering I just got off work. Waited about a half hour before it was my turn. Told her what I wanted, she started cutting and let me tell you, the way she was cutting scared me. My last Barber's cutting felt very precise and graceful, even if my hair didn't look like it afterwards haha. Thao on the other hand was a little more rougher than what I'm used to, plus it felt like she was taking off wayyy more hair off than I asked her to, I thought I was going to be near bald afterwards. She finished up and she began to go after the mirror, I was bracing myself for the worst until I saw what she had done. My hair looked sexy af.. legit I'm not exaggerating. It had never looked that good with my last barber, that's for sure. I was so ecstatic with the cut that I tipped her well and told her she has earned a loyal customer today. Her cutting style is raw.
