Decided to check this place out based on a recommendation from a friend. I made an appointment and showed up about 10 minutes early. Sign on the door says that if no one is outside to call a number that was listed. I didn't have my phone on me so I knocked and opened the door. I was met with a very loud and rude, "Did you read the sign on the door?" Yea I read the g-dan sign. Sorry I made the mistake of knocking/opening the door to see what to do for my appointment. I guess someone was having a bad day. Needless to say based on that response/treatment who the hell would want to get a cut here?? I left and will take my business elsewhere. The guy didn't bother to review what I had described when I booked the appointment & he seemed completely clueless when I described an "Extended Goatee" (Google it). Then he proceeded to butcher my beard! Way under cut the bottom, horribly lopsided up one side, uneven width & height on both sides. And way wider than we discussed. I've gone here for all my haircuts for over 4 years (always giving over 25% tip), stubbornly trying to find a barber business I can rely on, but I'm finally out of patience. They are obviously "too good" for me. They seem to only appreciate easy trims that are from the monolithic status quo of young modern men. They don't like anything that takes effort, ie someone who actually needs a lot of hair cut off. The barbers have obviously recognized me over the years, but have never treated kindly. Instead, they make sly comments to me and each other about me not coming in enough. My work schedule is hectic and, yes, sometimes I didn't go in until after 6-10 months of hair growth. But, wait, aren't barbers supposed to cut hair instead of complaining about cutting hair? Is this only a 1/month trim salon? A lot of times, I went in because I had a special event to attend, but they didn't care; they complained about my shaggy hair and made condensing comments when I tried to express my preferences when they asked. I'm not fastidious about my hair at all...the barbers had open reign to just do their job, but instead they were jerks. All I was looking for was a haircut by a professional who was able to provide honest advice and execute on that advice, but now I realize I was stupid to keep giving this place chance after chance. TL;DR--Great with kids and consistently awesome! I went in for "The Works" and brought my 4 year along with me for a fade with a hard part. While I was having my beard trimmed the ENTIRE staff at the shop played with my son, gave him a treat for being well behaved during his cut and helped him play games on my iPhone. They did this all so dad (me) could relax. I mean what other business would be so kind and fun with a client's child? This is literally what you can expect from these guys every time you go in. So I'm that guy that was in a hurry to get a haircut on a Friday afternoon, my regular barber was out sick, so I went to my local barber down the street from my house. Very sweet lady and God bless her heart but she messed me up. That's when I went to Super Nova barbershop. I had heard great things about this place but never gave it a chance. I'd never been there and had never gotten a haircut at this place. I came in, was greeted by Shane, explained the situation, he chuckled at my story and got to work. As a guy who has struggled with getting a good haircut for years (I have crazy cowlicks and generally unruly hair), I was done with getting my haircut at places like SuperCuts, Great Clips and Fantastic Sam's, I needed a barber. It was the shave that ended with two cuts on my face that sucked. I don't know if men have trouble getting exactly what they want, but I was very impressed with Chip when he cut my son's hair. He really listened to what he wanted and came through handsomely. I was visiting town for a wedding and needed to look my best. Heard about this place and found out they have a great reputation. One of the barbers, Rex Joyner, was able to fit me in to his schedule. I'm not lying, this was one of the best hair cuts I've ever received!! I am so picky when it comes to my hair, it's seems like most people that cut my hair don't know how to do a proper fade. I've been here once before for a beard trim and shape. The barber who did the work no longer worked there, so I had to roll the dice on someone new. This individual had me in the chair for less than 10 minutes. He didn't touch my neckline, or my mustache. He didn't stretch the beard out, he just put a comb through it a few times and made a few trim cuts to the outside. The first time, I left this place feeling like a million bucks. This time, I literally felt like I just tossed $20 out the window. If I felt like they'd refund my money, I'd ask for it. I was pretty dissapointed. My husband has been wanting to come here for quite some time now so we walked in on Monday and ended up waiting almost a hour. There was only one guy doing hair and the other at the reception desk. I watched 2 guys get their hair done before my husband and it is a serious craft! I was actually amazed because he did my husband's hair however he told him and then I saw him wrap a warm towel at the base of the neck and straight razored to make it clean. BEWARE THE BEARDED They got my hair cut spot on , a clean contour with a nice fade on the sides... However, that is where the positivity ends... As any man will tell you his beard is his baby and when you state you're a Barber (variation of the French word for BEARD) one assumes you can get a beard trim and have your lines cleaned up. You EXPECT that the person doing this has done it before and will do it well. Not the case! When all was said and done my cheeks were uneven forcing me to take them both down further than I liked. My mustache was hacked at with comb and clippers leaving it thin on one side, and my lines were not finished with a straight razor forcing me to have to reshave at home, which didnt end up mattering because it was all uneven and needed to be fixed by myself anyways. In all honesty I think my biggest problem is that the person that I allowed to take care of my baby decided to hack at it like a hedge instead of tell me that they didn't have the experience to give me what I wanted. I appreciate the future attempt to appease me with a free visit to make all well, but before you do please bring proof you have trimmed a long beard and will treat mine with more care than my previous visit! Until that day I pray anyone with a beautiful full beard stay far away from your shop. Like I said the haircut was good though, my neck got a razor taper and the contour followed my hairline well with a nice fade, had to fix the part a little but I'm very particular on my part that's not his fault. read more

You'll notice most of the bad reviews are for walk-ins, maybe first timers, and those that show up late. This place is a small shop that values return clientele, and the owner nor other barbers need to roll out the red carpet for everyone; this isn't a salon and they certainly don't act as such. Like a 30 case of beer, with haircuts here, the next one is always better than the last. I see Eric every two weeks without fail and for good reason, I know exactly what I'm going to get and if I want to try something else Eric is happy to oblige. Sitting in the chair drinking my beer I notice the other barbers treat their clients the same, particularly those with familiar faces. Had my first professional beard trim here this morning. Eric McGuire is a solid barber, knows his craft and I highly recommend him. Place had an awesome vibe, Elvis playing on the stereo, lots of tattoos and stickers everywhere, and each barber was very well presented. Always strikes me as odd when barbers have jacked up hairstyles and beards. Definitely book an appointment and don't be more than 5 minutes late. If your used to getting cuts on base or right outside JBLM, you'll be in for sticker shock. BUT, you get what you pay for, and these guys are worth every penny. read more

Rob has been cutting my hair for over a year now and he does a great job. He is quick, personable and always gives a nice cut. The straight-razor neck trim is great along with the hot towel and moisturizer! The new barber shop he is at is in a great location (get a beer across the street before or after the cut!) with easy parking. The shop is light filled and airy. Since I started getting my haircut by Rob a lot of friends now go to him and continue to since he switched shops. So check him out. Still haven't tried the shave but that is on my list. This place had so much promise. I bought a gift certificate for my husband for Christmas for a straight razor head shave. The hot towels they used and service great. They used a feather artist type blade. First of all the end result was NOT smooth. He only shaved with the grain. Everyone knows you have to go against the grain to get a smooth shave. Second of all it cost $30. But the shave was bad. It was past a 5 o'clock shadow feel. I want my money back!! He is now reshaving his head as we speak. JUNE 22, 2018!! BEWARE! Made an appt for Dad as overall reviews were good. When we made the online appt specifically made the appt for a HOT SHAVE! Mentioned online and in person Dad has dementia. At check-in specifically mentioned it again and SAID shave only. They take Dad back, 45 minutes later we check on him - they have cut his hair horribly - - and he has 2, not 1, but 2 face cuts!! On top of that, as I walk back I see my father pulling 20's out of his wallet. The barber already has $60.00 in his hand for a crappy $55.00 job and is standing by why Dad fishes out at least another $20.00 more! WTF?????
