If there was a sixth star to pick, I would. Just had my first appt and am blown away on every level. Roy was an absolute pro and tackled both haircut and beard trim like a wizard of barbering. Every aspect was dialed. Also super kind, courteous, and respectful - literally no notes. The attention to detail was also over the top. And if you have a beard, your an idiot to go anywhere else. A paramount characteristic of a great barber is walking out the door and already thinking about your return trip in a positive light; will absolutely be back. Had been going to long time barber in Seattle for years, but he's always booked and don't work in Seattle anymore. So I've been going to Elvis last few months with my son. He did a good job, so I thought I my at have found my new barber. But here's why I giving a 2 star review. Booked appointment online a week ahead. A few days before the appointment, I received notification that the appointment was cancelled. Would have been nice to get a call, but brush it off since I was able to book again for next day. But again, 3 hrs before the appointment, I get a cancellation notice. So 2 cancellations in a row with no communication outside of an automated text. In 5 years of seeing my Seattle barber, he cancelled an appointment only once. And when he did, he gave me a call and work out a reschedule. I received a cancellation after coming here over 5 years; my cancellation notice was that the barber decided to leave early about 3.5 hours prior to my appointment; if we as customers have to abide by a 24 hour cancellation notice or be charged. How is it okay to cancel on an appointment which such short notice. I messaged the owners cell phone and didn't even get a response; Customer NOT first shop. I will be sharing my experience with all my other friends and colleagues that get a cut there so they don't return. I will never return as this non haircut came at the worst timing before a National Convention and no accommodation for me as a customer. I thought the customer came first? Tim? Rob? Just moved back to Tacoma after spending a few years in Seattle. Had a handful of haircuts from Rob and will continue to go to him! Prices are reasonable--few bucks cheaper than what I was paying in Seattle, and the online booking system is a breeze. During COVID they have done a great job creating a safe, yet welcoming environment with masks worn, temperature checks, and regular sanitization of barber stations. Been to a lot of high quality barbershops in my adult life. By virtue of moving quite a bit over the years (active duty military - also requiring frequent cuts) I've been to a lot of barbershops, in general, and learned the hard way that a haircut isn't something to leave up to chance. There's nothing more satisfying than finding that spot that you can trust to take care of you consistently. Full disclosure, Buzzerd's was the first and only shop I've been to in Tacoma, but I have no interest in trying out the others because of that consistent quality aforementioned. You're greeted by a host of welcoming barbers who make your first time in the door feel like your 30th. I've been to Elvis three times now and his attention to detail is unparalleled. He gives a shit and it shows from the moment you sit down in his chair. I'm typically risk averse when it comes to what I ask for from a barber because of some tricky cowlicks and some thinning up front. I don't have that same reluctance anymore. Wonderful first experience here today with Mr. Elvis Hopper, who worked wonders in the allotted 45 min client slot on what, admittedly, was a rough job. My hair was a jumble of long curls and I needed those gone for an upcoming trip to visit my sister in Vegas. Mr. Velazquez seems to have a knack of hiring the best, as each of his barbers I interacted with was friendly and focused on the work at hand. He was patient, thorough, and friendly. First time visitor and called on a Tuesday to check for a Wednesday appt. (Wed. and Thur. are by appt. only). Tim answered the phone and I scheduled a haircut and beard trim for the following morning. First impression of the shop was very professional yet hip and comfortable. Tim greeted and seated me and asked what I was looking for in my hair and beard. He gave me some advice on my hair and away he went. While cutting, Tim was very friendly and we quickly learned we had former jobs in common and had a great conversation. Entire process for haircut and beard trim took approximately 45 minutes that included a wet towel and razor cut on beard and hairline. Tim was meticulous with both my hair and beard and I couldn't be happier with the cut and service I got. Reading the many reviews everyone seems to have their favorite which is great since you can't go wrong with any of the barbers. That being said, i'm loyal to Tim now and will be returning. I've been to Buzzerd's five or six times now and I've been meaning to write a review since the first visit. This place is fantastic; it's not a salon, it's a proper barbershop with personality. The music is always good, the place smells great, and the barbers are pros and good for a conversation. Juan does an excellent job every time. Highly recommended. For $30 I get a haircut and beard trim, plus they finish up the edges with a hot towel and straight-razor shave. Every time I've come out of there looking and feeling great. As long as I live reasonably close to Tacoma, I won't go anywhere else for a haircut. It does get quite busy. I've had to wait up to an hour, though it averages around 30 minutes. It's absolutely worth it. Also note that the parking situation sucks. You can usually find street parking right around the corner on Fawcett, especially earlier in the day. Still worth it. read more

Now I switch between Rob and Chris but anyone standing behind a chair is worth your trust and confidence. You have to be ready to wait a little as its all as a "walk in" basis, except for Thursday's when they are booked out for weeks. But the wait never seems to be that long. There is absolutely no question that the individuals in this shop are seasoned connoisseurs. I go specifically for Derrick, and I have never left his chair feeling a penny less than a million bucks. His attention to detail deserves awards. His shaping skills are incredible, and all of his recommendations for conditioners and oils have worked wonders. If you are looking for a place to get your beard trimmed and shaped, this is the only place you need to consider. All of the guys are personable and interesting, all dudes you'd want to have a beer with, but Derrick is the best in my book, a true pro. If you want the best of the best, this is the place to go. One thing to note is if you want to get in the chair quick, you better be there early, because the rest of Tacoma lines up pretty fast to get in on the action. I went on a Saturday, and there were 10 people already in line before they even opened at 9am. This is a barbershop that a few years ago I would have said i wished was back home. The service here is always a little slower, but that is to be expected with a full service barber. Like I said I would have wished to have this barber shop back home. I travel to the Tacoma area every ear for a couple weeks, and have been doing so for the past several years. Every since my first visit I have always went to Buzzards to get a hair cut and I have always felt welcomed. This timed seemed different. There were several regulars in the shop, which I could tell because all of the barbers knew their names. Obviously no one knew me since I show up once a year for a haircut. The regulars seem to get better service and a longer haircut leading to a better quality product. I felt like my haircut was rushed, the barber did not attempt to upscale me or offer me any product. Just cut and go. On top of that, he failed to blend a spot properly and now I am stuck styling my hair differently than I like. If your a regular, I say continue to go. You'll clearly get what you're looking for. If you're new, maybe riding out a few bad cuts will be worth it once you show them your loyalty. read more

If someone is new to a place it means they don't know the rules as to what to do. My husband went for a hair cut here because it has great reviews; however, when my husband arrived no one told him he had to write his name on the board. He sat there for 40 minutes and no one told him anything and when he went to ask one of the guy's if it's going to be longer he tells him that they just took their last walk in and that he was supposed to write his name on the board. My husband let the guy know that no one had given him that information when first greeted and the guy just stood there saying nothing. Good bye. read more

I was 10 minutes late to my first appointment with Tim, but he was cool with it and sat me right down and got to work. My previous haircuts had been done by guys who primarily buzz you with a broad variety of clippers. Tim is an old school gentleman barber and that works for this old dude. I admit there is not too much hair on top, and previous barber shops have left me looking like a skint mule. Not today. Top notch Barber Shop! After recently moving here, I was hesitant with any new barber. I looked a few places in the area, and after reading the review here, decided to give it a chance. I walked in, was greeted, and wrote my name on the board for Rob, just because his name happened to be the first on the white board for walk in day. He cut my hair with precision. Honestly it was one of the best cuts I have had in years, and he even asked questions about what exactly I wanted my hair to do naturally without any product, and how I styled it when I did. This information gave him what he needed to better layer it, and the final product was wonderful!! From what I have read about other peoples' experience, it appears that you cannot go wrong no matter which barber you choose! They offer the full suite! I highly recommend to anyone who wants a hair cut that will look good, and stay that way too! All of the barbers were actually genuinely educated and cared about what you want.
