Axel & Byrne opened at Patriot Place this week, which is a modern casual BBQ restaurant with order…read moreat the counter service and pickup. There are tables (self seating), sauces/condiments station, self serve fountain drinks, and flat screen TVs in the dining area. The gameday menu offers several appetizers, salads, BBQ smoked meats (pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, baby back ribs) sandwiches & platters, grilled cheese sandwich, and burgers. I ordered the Pulled Pork Platter ($17 plus tax) which includes choice of two sides and cornbread. The food was hot and ready at the pickup counter in under 5 minutes. The portion of food was generous with a big mound of tender smoked pulled pork, cheesy Mac & cheese, and a creamy potato salad with hard boiled egg pieces in the mix. The cornbread was crumbly and not too sweet. I dispensed some St. Louis and House BBQ sauces (sweet & smoky) and they also have a spicy BBQ sauce too. Overall, this is a good place to stop for BBQ before or after the game and concerts.

A solid barbecue option in an underwhelming complex for food, Axel & Byrne is a new(ish) barbecue…read morerestaurant in Patriot Place, by the Gillette Stadium. A local, I've eaten there three times and it's consistently good, with friendly staff. It's good for takeout or sitdown in a no-frills dining room. Patriot Place is a weird location - because of the football games and concerts that bring in lots of one-time eaters, restaurants there don't really have to try, and most just... don't try. So many food places sound good, with wonderful menus, but turn out to be deeply meh or outright inedible. It's been a nice change that Axel & Byrne is actually good food, every time. I really like their burnt ends platter, and the homemade vinegary Carolina sauce. I ended up stealing fries from my friend's plate and dipping them in the Carolina sauce, and mmmmmmm. So good.

I had the half rack of ribs with a house salad, and a sweet potato. The salad is always fresh and I love the Italian dressing. The sweet potato is always delicious. My husband had the steak tips and instead of the rice or mashed potatoes. He also had a sweet potato. For his second side, he had the chili but for a dollar extra he had a bowl instead of a cup. Of course, we also had the famous roles with cinnamon butter The service was wonderful and we had food to take home for another meal

I requested extra steaming of Vegetables to assure carrots are steamed soft, broccoli steamed tender. Well Rolls, steak , cold beer all good. Baked potato was ordered with butter, sour cream... came only sour cream but cooked perfect and was hot . Same issue here every visit is the rock hard Vegetables taste frozen thawed right from bag Not steamed enough and broccoli stalks rock hard and inedible. I knew this restaurant last many visits same issue... I intentionally requested extra steaming of vegetables... nope Still cold rock hard, carrots tasted no steam at all... very frustrating... Other Texas Roadhouses I eat get them cooked properly? Why can't this place figure it out? Complained to deaf ears... sides at Longhorn Steakhouse are to die for... this place can't least get the franchise dismal sides at least cooked... steak wax excellent and why 4 stars...

My husband loved the chicken risotto. I got a raspberry sangria which was fantastic. I was not at all into the zucchini burger. It was weird. And though I like Gouda, in this context it was kind of overbearing and didn't go with the bread. It was also unweildy and a hand held as there were two distinct fritters. The restaurant is on the pricey side. As soon as the waitress realized I didn't like my food she started on on asking me if I wanted something else... Which, no. I was not going to pay another $20+ dollars to get something else I might not like. Just let me cut my losses. Asking me a second time if they could get me something else was absolutely not appreciated. Anyway, its a nice restaurant if you have money to drop. Maybe not in the zucchini burger, but I am sure someone else out there likes it.

The patio overlooks Route 1.. but if the weather is nice, it is still nice to atleast be outside. Our server was really sweet and attentive, but not overly "hovering" if that makes sense. We split the "Black and Blue" Pizza along with an order of the crispy shrimp. Both items were great, pizza was more than enough for the two of us, as we ended bringing a few slices home. We will absolutely be back to try some more entrees!
