Delicious and authentic! My husband and I grew up eating Indian food, and find it hard to find places that live up to our standards. This place definitely delivered! We loved almost everything we tried. They have a fairly extensive menu, with lots of apps, street foods, curries, and some surprise dishes that aren't so easily found at other Indian spots. We tried the dahi puri, paneer makhani, tandoori murg, makki roti with sarson ka saag, and several naan. The paneer was creamy with tons of flavor, and my husband said the roti with saag dish reminded him of home - big win! The dahi puri was cool and brightly flavored and crunchy and creamy, perfect starter on a hot day. The only thing I would maybe pass on is the tandoori chicken - while it came out sizzling with a great char, it had some strange flavors, almost like they mixed in chili Gobi or something with it? Not bad, just not what was expected, especially since everything else really hit it out of the park. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at an off time, but started to fill up quickly as we approached dinner time. Family friendly, as we brought our baby and felt comfortable with her both in a wagon and high chair, the service was kind and very accommodating. I went as I had a craving for Indian food and the reviews here were wonderful. I got the non veg thali which I assumed would be a buffet style arrangement. It was not, it was an assortment of dishes which were all tasty. There was rice, naan, a chicken dish, a lamb/beef dish, a veggie dish, a crunchy bread, and a piece of galub jamun for dessert. The lamb was probably was favorite and was gone very quickly. The chicken was a close second and had a ton of flavor which the naan soaked up nicely. The galub jamun was a pleasant surprise as well. I got an order to go, it was syrupy and a perfect sweet treat to end a savory meal. I would go back! P.s. I ordered mild and the nice waitress politely insisted on medium. I had another super experience dining here, this time for dinner. We arrived early and were seated immediately. (It did start to fill up as the evening went on, so plan accordingly!) We easily found parking right outside. It's a calm and casual atmosphere that is great for families, small groups, and solo diners. Love learning? You'll be slightly transfixed by their TV, which had fascinating programming about food from around the world. There to catch up and enjoy the company? It's easy to do--the volume in the restaurant is moderate. Our server, Siva, had wonderful suggestions for us. The menu is awesome and features a wide range of options, from street food to regional specialties. If you're not sure what something is or whether it would be up your alley, ask: they'll have your back. There are ample options for vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores, and there is tons of flexibility on spice level. Everything is cooked to order. We started with the vegetarian momo, which came with two sauces--one spicy and the other not. Both were delicious and complex. (The spicy one was indeed spicy, which was really delightful--I love it when I find a true "spicy"; it's not always easy in the Midwest!) For my main, I ordered the malai kofta, which is one of my favorites. It's a comforting dish that is highly seasoned and has loads of depth. It's rich, savory, salty, and a bit sweet--basically a hug on a plate. I ordered it medium, but next time will probably go with hot. We also had the bullet naan (with green chilis), which was a real treat. This restaurant has more than the average number of naan options, and they all looked great. We definitely chose wisely--this unique naan was truly delicious and was perfect for scooping up the sauces. (Highly recommended.) I also had a mango lassi. It was definitely a winner: creamy, sweet, and tart, it was just what I needed for balance. If you like Indian and Himalayan, Thaliwala will be right up your alley. This is such delicious, authentic Indian food that a friend from India loves it as much as I do. The Onion Naan arrived still piping hot and smelled so amazing a squirrel attacked my food before I could retrieve it! Lol. Pic for fun. No matter, I devoured it anyway. My favorite Butter Chicken (Medium+ heat) was savory and delicious with tender chunks of chicken and spicy sauce. The sauce is rich and smooth and serves as a delicious dip for the naan. I also ordered the Lamb Curry and the oil floating on top was a little off-putting, but the flavor was still rich and warm. WOW! Incredible food and service, Thaliwala is a must if you're looking for great Indian food! Every single dish that was ordered exceeded expectations. I tried the paneer makhani for the first time, following the recommendation from our waitress and loved every bite. It was rich, flavorful, and so filling. It's truly something I could eat almost daily! They gave us plenty of rice to share between the four different dishes we had and the Naan's were a great add on. You can choose different spice levels for each dish which is great but I recommend going a bit spicier and getting a Lassi to cool down in between bites! Almost paradise for vegans. It's always easiest is a menu is clear, but the perfectly trained staff was pretty amazing. Came here with a group excited for the thali, only to arrive learning that there's new management & they no longer offer it on the menu. We were all very bummed by this but we stayed and tried a bunch of other stuff still - momos, chicken 65, garlic naan & more. It was decent but nothing wow if you're familiar with Nepali food and quite a trek for those of us on the St Paul side. This place is a good option for those living nearby but imo, not worth the drive for those in the cities since other places do these same dishes. I went with some of my friends from India and they knew right away what to order - an off the menu platter Thali that looked like a lot of small plates of variety of foods. Beautiful presentation on a large silver platter with lots of other bowls inside it. I ordered chicken curry and vegetables and the curry was so so sooo perfect (mild) while my friends ate "spicy Indian style" food that when I had a bite, I nearly died from the spicy LOL Garlic naan bread to die for. This sparkling clean, friendly restaurant offers traditional Indian fare, but their specialty is "Thali's," or plates. A plate is a large metal serving plate rimmed with metal bowls, each containing a small portion of chicken, lamb, or veggies seeped in delicious sauces, basmati or brown rice, and a variety of vegetables, lentils, a thick Indian soup. Each plate comes with papadums, but several types of nan are also available, as are the familiar samosas and momos, a meat or vegetable-filled dumpling. Dessert is Kheer, a sweet pudding made of rice, sugar, and condensed milk topped with freshly grated cardamom. There is also a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Thaliwala is a hidden gem providing very authentic North Indian food in Chanhassen. Their management has changed recently, earlier this was a Nepali restaurant, now, while they have retained the 'momos', entire rest of the menu has been refreshed with a lot of options which you won't find elsewhere. The best thing is the staff and the Chef, who are extremely friendly and do ensure that you get a very pleasant experience along with good food. We tried Amritsari Chhole Kulcha and a non veg Thali. Both the items were very tasty and as per our spice palate. Non veg Thali had an appetizer, one chicken and one lamb dish along with dal and a dessert. Saw this place on tiktok and decided to come in and give it a chance. The menu is simple. You choose your protein and get a selection of various sides dishes with rice and lentil crackers. You can add on things like Naan and hot sauce. They also have appetizers like momos and some alcoholic beers and nonalcoholic beverages. I got paneer thala and my partner got chicken. We got a side of garlic Naan and 12 veggie momos. I got a masala Chai. I enjoyed it all. It tasted great and it was a lot of food. Went home with three containers of leftovers! Simply amazing food. The restaurant was spotless the staff friendly. I think it's safe to say this is the best Indian food I have ever had. The food is so fresh, seasoned and cooked to perfection. The pakora was so crisp and fresh without being greasy, the dumplings were a delicious addition, the naan obviously fresh and hot. We also had Chicken Tiki Masala with big chunks of chicken that was seasoned exactly as we ordered. I've been eating at Thaliwala once a month for the past year. Last night we ordered takeout. The food had completely changed. The chicken tikki masala was not creamy at all and was a completely different color. The naan had so much garlic, I almost couldn't eat it. This leads me to believe there is a different chef or they sold the restaurant and kept the name. I'm warning you that if you lived the old food, this is not at all as good.
