After a long week, I was absolutely stoked to receive an invitation to dinner with my favorite…read morehost. Even better? We're going to my favorite Indian spot in the state. We started off with the vegetable platter, which features three delicious vegetarian appetizers. In addition to vegetable pakoras and samosas, there was bhajita, spinach and onion stuffed potato wedges. These came with delicious little cups of chutney--one mint and one tamarind. This appetizer was a hit, even for the most devoted carnivore in the party. We also tried the pashwari naan--it's a sweet naan that is filled with coconut and golden raisins. My mom in particular loved it. It would be a wonderful foil for a spicy curry. For our mains, mom ordered the kebab, which came with dal (we picked the golden lentil dal, and I might possibly have had "just a taste" several times. (Verdict: it's yummy!) I ordered the paneer chili balti, a comforting balti that is sweet, savory, and salty with warming spices. The rice was also exactly right--fluffy, perfectly salted, and just the right texture. We also got the mango chutney, which is a tart, sweet, salty, savory, amazing flavor bomb. Try it at least once. For dessert, we shared the kulfee and ras malai. These aren't on the menu at every Indian restaurant, and since first having tried them (at India Palace, in fact), I know that they'll always be my first choice when I see them, especially the kulfee. Holy wow. As usual, the service was great--friendly, attentive, prompt, and helpful, the staff here makes sure you get what you need. Despite the fairly full house, it was easy to have a conversation. This is a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. The music is quiet, the decor interesting, and the seating comfortable. All in all, the cure for a bad week!

Is it too soon to return?! Service: Always great.

I tried some new-to-me Indian dishes, including the Onion Dosa and the Methi with chicken. The…read moreMethi was delightful, medium spice made my scalp prickle and my nose run which is a success for me! The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and meaty not at all dry. The sauce was deeply flavorful and rich. The Onion Dosa was a waste of money. It's about two feet long and disappointingly stuffed with chopped RAW red onions. No bueno, they fell out of the piece I cut and got everywhere. I ate a little bit and it went into the compost bin. The crepe itself was flavorle The Butter Chicken was fantastic, perfect spice level for me, the chicken succulent and tender, the sauce flavorful and delicious. There was a weird little cold soup of some kind of veg - I could only identify carrot - tasted sour and was not edible. Not sure what it is, it's not on the menu. So A+ on the Methi and Butter Chicken, F on the dosa. Portions are large, I'll be eating the two mains for days. Rice portion is huge.

The food isn't overly spicy, but it's packed with layers of flavor. The meat is always incredibly moist with a subtle smoky taste that really elevates every dish. Since the establishment was clearly labeling themselves as fancy Indian food, it was very clear…read morethat they put a lot of thought into presentation. Most of the food they served looked gorgeous, to the point that some may think they were overshadowing the flavor. But I can confidently say that in terms of flavor, many of the dishes were extremely on point as well. Items like the blackened chicken, the tomato dal, the butter chicken, and the palak paneer were very flavorful. The blackened chicken was juicy and tender, too, on top of containing abundant flavor. The samosas contained an abundant amount of potatoes and peas. I could taste a good amount of tomatoes and coconut milk in the butter chicken, which was very creamy. I could also taste very strong garam masala in the palak paneer, which was a great thing. The butter naan was an excellent addition because the flavorful curry definitely needed more than rice to evoke its full potential, and naan bread was perfect for such. In terms of dessert, the mango mousse was incredible! Its soft but solid texture made it very easy to break up and consume, while maintaining its shape without collapsing. The saffron, milk powder, and cream altogether offered a very integral taste that had lots of depth. I honestly want to try all the desserts on their menu, too, like the coconut pannacotta and the basundi pistachio tiramisu, because they both looked amazing on the menu. While this establishment is not one of those places you visit that often, it is perfect for a date night because it has clean and relatively fancy decor along with flavorful food and can evoke a romantic vibe. I will for sure return here in the future and highly recommend it for those looking for quality Indian restaurants!

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I was sent here on a mission by my mother and…read moremy spouse to order vegetable pakora for a very specific dish, khadi pakora. It's a yogurt-based curry with CRISPY pakora in it. I came here thinking "any restaurant can make pakora, it's literally just deep-fried, battered vegetables." This was a mistake I have already lived to regret. Before I describe the food, I'll note that I ordered online and was advised to pick it up in 20-35 minutes. I arrived on the later end of this range. I went into the restaurant and no one was seated inside, but it was a Monday night so maybe that's a quiet day for them. I went up to the counter to pick up my order. There was nobody there but someone came out after I rang the bell. I picked up my order and went home, not thinking to check it. I arrived home with the goods in hand. My mother opened it and gave me a look of disappointment, contempt, and disgust. The pakora was cold, limp, and not battered. It seemed like it was microwaved or even just taken straight out of the fridge. We still made the curry, but it was an abomination. I've never had pakora this bad. If you're looking for Indian food in the metro, go literally anywhere else or my Indian mother will be disappointed in you, too.
