Fantastic venue in an old, vintage building. Loved the coffered ceilings and the intimate setting. We saw a string quartet play tribute to Metallica and even the balcony seats were great. Went to Thalia Hall for the first time for wave to earth's lollapalooza after show and had an amazing experience! This is a small, intimate avenue in Chicago that hosts concerts, opera, and plays. There really isn't a bad seat in the venue! We were able to snag one of the larger opera boxes, which I highly recommend, especially if you're going with friends. Ours was on the left side and perfectly angled toward the stage, so we were incredibly close. The box seats up to six people and they even provide water for you, which was a nice touch. The venue also has a bar area and a balcony. For this show, the balcony was general admission. There are four large balcony boxes and two smaller two-person boxes, which would be super cute for a date or going with a friend. The staff were extremely friendly, and parking was surprisingly easy! We found street parking within about five minutes. They do serve food and drinks, though we didn't get any this time. Overall, the show was intimate, fun, and such a great experience. If I come back for another concert at Thalia Hall, I'll definitely try to get an opera box again. read more

Visited Thalia Hall for my first time and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really nice venue. Security was a bit much but it is what it is. I was there for Andy Frasco and if you know the crowd they're not rowdy. Security being next to him in the crowd ruined the moment imo. The bathrooms were co-ed. I've only ever previously experienced that in Quebec. So if that weirds you out maybe don't go here? They have 3 bars and free water which was really nice. I love when venues have free water readily available. The parking in the area is minimal. I had to park about a half mile away which walking during the day was fine, but I opted to uber back to my car after my show since it was a residential area and dark. Another thing to note that I was thought was a nice addition was chairs! They had a row of chairs which was super nice. Most venues that are GA often don't have seats. read more

Bathrooms--at least the women's--are terrible. The stalls are so narrow that if you're over a certain size, or just not very nimble, it's tricky getting into them. The problem is that there is almost no space on the sides of the toilet, and the door is just way to close to it so you practically have to straddle the toilet to open it. I guess having the doors swing outward would solve the latter issue.... I don't know if the upstairs bathrooms are the only ones so maybe elsewhere in the building they're ok but yikes. There's a GA section downstairs and seating in the balcony. Sound quality isn't fantastic, but isn't terrible, either. Sight lines from the balcony are good though. When I saw Cat Power, they had a bar upstairs. Handy. Parking is nonexistent--official parking for the venue, that is. If you can find a spot somewhere in Pilsen then you have parking, but I have never found parking in this area to be easy let alone a given. If you're driving, leave plenty early with the assumption you'll have to drive around or park a bit away from the venue. I do appreciate that they are working to be accessible. They have accommodations for folks with wheelchairs, even in shows where it's generally GA/standing only. I assume they would do the same for folks with limited mobility or other issues that would preclude them from standing for hours. Also, they'll arrange for an ASL interpreter for Deaf or Hard of Hearing patrons, which isn't something I have seen before from other venues (full disclosure, it is something I haven't looked for, so that may be more on me than other concert halls). I hope this starts to become standard in the industry. read more

In Chicago for a long weekend, and stayed in the neighborhood (Pilsen). This was the bonus on top of the bonus of this neighborhood. We walked to and from our rental, and were able to get tix in the balcony (cuz we're no spring chickens so don't like standing) on concert day to Mipso w/Humbird opening On Nov 2, 2023. We looked up one song on youtube and were sold. The folks at Thalia Hall were incredibly friendly...there's a bar attached on the main level where we grabbed something before going in. It wasn't sold out so no real line when we went in to find non-reserved seats. Good siteline from balcony. It's a nice, manageable-sized venue. Easy to get drinks during the show, easy access to bathrooms, etc. Would 100% return to Thalia Hall. read more

Such a gem of a venue. I've been to Thalia on a handful of occasions and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere itself is worth the venture in. It's well maintained ( no sticky floors here). There is a chalkboard that is updated for the headliners at each show. It's a great photo op if you're into that. But a little something to point out: the stalls of the bathroom are unisex. My husband walked out of the stall to wash his hands and there was a gaggle of women primping in the mirror. He had to question if he walked into the wrong restroom. Attended a concert there last week, after not having been since 2019. I went to use the bathroom and was disappointed to see they turned the women's bathroom (filled with stalls) gender neutral. Sharing such a personal space with men feels unsafe and uncomfortable. The bathroom was always a safe place to be as a woman and even transwoman, but men...not so comfortable. read more

We have box seats for the English Beat tonite, in a reserved "small box" I'm appalled that this venue actually charges for seating in this space. We were originally seated in the wring box, which was spacious with a small table with ice water and glasses, six seats and waitress service. We ordered a bottle of wine. When the waitress came back, we mentioned that we had reserved a box for two, and asked if we were in the right spot. NOPE. She moved us to one box forward that had a small bench with rumpled vinyl coveringwhich faced a wall. If both of is were seated, one person would not see the stage. Nice decor. A little hot but overall a good venue. The ceiling is cool and the built in lights are great. Parking is a bitch, we got lucky after driving around for 15-20 minutes and parked a block from the club. Sweet!! The balcony looks like it is a pretty good size, at least a 100 or so people. There are also several opera boxes with about 20+ plus seats. Not bad for a college part of town, it was fun watching all of the college students walking around thinking they know everything. Then watching them later doing stupid things and puke on their shoes. Priceless. The worst thing of the evening was when we tried to leave. We were literally blocked in by two other cars. Since we had to parallel park, we had to bump the cars in front and behind us and do a 35 point turn to get out of the spot. Very annoying. Really college students, when we parked we left at least a foot of space both in front and behind. read more

Really cool venue! For music, the whole floor is a GA pit area, and for other shows, like comedy, they have rows of folding chairs out. The space is very tall, with balcony seating options, and the walls are super ornate and cool to look at. The bathrooms are gender neutral, with a separator between the urinal area and the stalls. Different than what you normally see but pretty cool and inclusive. They have a bar in the venue, and Thalia Hall is actually attached to a restaurant, and a bar downstairs. Good options for pre- or post- show. Lots of good spots nearby too. I've been here to see live music and to see standup and had a great experience both times. The staff here is great. Went here last night for a performance from Tv Girl, my first time at this venue in specific but I was not disappointed. Although it is somewhat cramped at the entrance once you get to the GA floor ids a pretty nice venue and is located in a very decent spot in the city. My only complaint was the limited food options. Other than that everything was amazing and I had a fantastic night, will definitely visit again soon. read more

My first visit to Thalia Hall happened earlier this month to see Julien Baker, an artist I've loved for awhile but hadn't ever seen before. The day of the show, I found tickets online for the sold out event for a much cheaper price, and spontaneously planned a trip to Thalia Hall from my Lincoln Park home. My ride dropped me off on the main street adjacent to the one Thalia Hall's on, so it was hard to find for a second, but obviously I figured it out since I'm writing this review! Upon entry I was glad to see security guards using wands to check people before we entered, but I was a little uncomfortable when no one checked my purse, just with everything going on in the world. I think security could've been a little tighter there, even though all I had in there anyway were my keys and phone. Just for the future, to be safe, I think that'd be a good idea! I arrived a little late, so I and the small crowd I walked in with were all guided to an upstairs area. There, our tickets were all checked and we were able to enter the concert hall. The stage inside is gorgeous, and I was so happy to see that beer here is sold at a reasonable price in comparison to a lot of other music venues and entertainment spots around the city. I paid $5 for a Modelo, and other beer options ranged from $6-10. Thalia Hall also sells hot dogs and other snacks as well, which is always a great idea! The sound in the hall was absolutely breathtaking. All three performers on this particular evening were on the more mellow side, so it was a perfect setting and felt intimate, even though there were easily hundreds of people in the room. Last week was my second time at Thalia Hall and I'm glad Chicago has a venue like this. I came to see Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band, which was awesome to be able to see and hear some Grateful Dead music in a smaller venue. It was a sold out show so there was a long line outside that formed before doors opened. The security made sure to keep people moving one the venue opened so everyone could escape the cold as quickly as possible. Once in the venue is an old ballroom with a decent amount of space to move around. There are two bars and a back room where merch and coat check was located. The acoustics here are very good and I had a great time seeing Phil play an amazing show. Thalia Hall is one of the best venues in Chicago! read more

It was interesting when it came to security they made my friend throw out a key chain thing but let people bring in selfie sticks and special concert lights so weird. Water is insanely expensive. Well aside from the fact that I was knocked to ground by a security guard and my girlfriend was choked by the same person the venue is great. Always ask the 12th district Police Department before going to this venue. They have a Code Of Conduct however it does not apply to their staff. Beware when you attend, we have pressed charges against the venue and now the attorneys are involved. Don't worry they have Gender free restrooms so yes they are very Woke. Pretty good venue to catch a concert. I had no idea that it was attached to Duseks which has really good food. I got a chance to see one of my favorite groups of all time, The Geto Boys recently. They put on a helluva good show for a solid 1.5 hours doing all of their awesome hits like Mind Playing Tricks on Me, Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta and Mind of a Lunatic in addition to many others. Sound system was awesome and the full bar in the back was very necessary and accessible. Bartenders turned around drinks pretty quick and were pretty cool peeps. Mainly standing space and has balcony seats which will cost additional $. Hopefully they keep this place clean and not nasty and run down like some older venues are/were (Congress Theater/The Metro) Next time I come to a show here I will have dinner and drinks @ Duseks and roll on upstairs afterwards. read more

This guy named John Dusek built Thalia Hall with the idea that it would attract arts and entertainment and it worked! His architects modeled it after the Prague opera house and completed their work in 1892. For over 7 decades the Hall was a beacon of the neighborhood community. It was not only one of the most ornate theaters of its times and was used to exhibit tons of entertainment over the years, but was also used as a central meeting spot for the neighborhood. Closed to the Public in the 1960's, Thalia Hall had remained untouched until the end of 2013, when new owners began working on it. It's now gorgeous inside and houses a fantastic restaurant. The standing room only makes any concert better and the acoustics are beyond superb! read more

Great Venue. The bathrooms are very weird. There's a right way and a wrong way to do gender neutral bathrooms, this is absolutely the wrong way. I don't want to be standing at the urinal and look over my shoulder to see someone doing their eyeliner. Make sure you watch your fluid intake and go to the bathroom before visiting. read more

These photos are from when I went to see Andrea Gibson at Thalia Hall in 2018. This was a great experience. I really appreciated the intimate setting. Gibson's poetry always evokes strong emotions for me. Additionally, I didn't know anything about Chastity Brown, who opened for Gibson. But I left the venue with a record album. I had been postponing this review for years.. Rating Scale : 1-5 ..1 is bad and 5 is good.. Place: Thalia Hall had been a great experience .This music concert hall had been clean and properly maintained over the years. So I give a 4... Location: Its not far from the Dan Ryan Expressway but parking is a hassle.. They do not have a giant garage for parking.. So there are pros and cons on the parking evaluation and convenience of the expressway. I give a 3 ... Food/Cuisine: The food/cuisine was good with the tavern/pub/restaurant below the music hall..The burgers were fresh and drinks good ...The food is ok .. So I give a 3.5.... Music Hall: I give the music hall a 5 ...It was fun watching Smashing Pumpkins...And there was alot of people...The music hall was hygenic and everything seemed to have been remodeled from some years ago... 5 stars for one of the best concert experiences I've ever had! First I am pleasantly pleased with the renovation this auditorium underwent and I'm so glad they salvaged this building. It's so beautiful on the inside with chandeliers, dim lighting, and vintage stage & balcony. The upstairs bar area is one of the more luxurious bars in a concert venue wise as opposed to the Vic or the Metro. We had Opera Box Seats with a birds eye view of the stage, personal servers, and it felt like luxury! We were able to personally meet San Fermin & Low Roar. Best of all Low Roar came to chill with us in our box and watched the entire concert with us! Such great people and super down to earth! Def can't wait to see what other artist make their way here! Thalia Hall is becoming one of my favorite music venues in the city. What I think I love the most is the custom chalk signs they create in front for every show. I take photos every. single. time. I love it. The staff is always super friendly, the venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, and there are great sight lines no matter where you find yourself situated in the venue. Also, whoever their booker is deserves a raise - they've been putting on some phenomenal shows lately. My only complaint is that tickets for the balcony are sometimes double the floor ticket price, and granted, now that I'm getting older I sometimes prefer to sit at concerts, it's still definitely not worth twice the price of a regular ticket. For more popular shows the floor tickets sell out first so if it's a can't-miss event, you're stuck paying the higher price whether you like it or not. That being said, I went in with some friends for box seats for a show here once (if I recall correctly, a box is 6 tickets for around $250, depending on the concert) and I'd highly recommend it if you can wrangle 6 friends together to join you at a show. The views from the boxes are remarkable. This place is kind of out of the way for me (I'm a north sider and don't have a car) but I make it work. The Roosevelt bus will drop you off a couple blocks from the venue. That's been the best bet for me thus far. read more

This is one of my favorite venues in the city to go see shows. Good sight-lines from most places on the floor thanks to the high stage. There's some seating along the far sides of the lower level, which is good because I'm old and lame and like to sit. Speaking of sitting, the balcony! It's the place to be! Sometimes there is a different ticket price to be up on the balcony so I usually don't pay extra (I'm old, but I'm also cheap I guess), but if given the opportunity, yes. Bars upstairs and downstairs, and waitstaff usually wanders through the crowd so you don't even have to move your lazy self if you want to drink. Full bar with good selection of beers in both cans and on draft. OH! Almost forgot, the sound is usually pretty good too. Also, the entire building that Thalia is in is pretty cool and full of bars and restaurants. That's for another review though. read more

Loved this place! It's beautiful on the outside! Very clean on the inside! Went to see Matt Nathinson's acoustic show ! It was amazing! They have a balcony! Standing in the middle !
