The 4-star Yelp rating we saw set our expectations fairly high, but unfortunately our meal did not come close to matching it. The Tom Kha soup was unlike any version I've had before, and not in a good way. It was yellow/watery rather than white/creamy, with very little of the coconut, lemongrass, lime, or other distinctive flavor I would normally expect from Tom Kha. It was bland and had very few vegetables. The difference was significant enough that I asked the server to confirm that we had received the correct soup. The other dishes were not much better. Both the beef and fish were covered in a thick brown gravy that was salty and overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients. The service was polite, but the food was below average and did not reflect the strong Yelp rating. We left disappointed. read more

This is our first review of this restaurant. We have been here several times, but didn't do a review. They have been consistent with their food for many years. We love the Thai curry dishes and they do not disappoint. The spring rolls are always fresh and hot. We love dining in and having a relaxing meal. This review is only for takeout. My husband and coworkers dined in there yesterday, though, and he said waitservice was fast and friendly, with plenty of water refills, and the restaurant itself was very clean. He got me the Pad Cashew with chicken, very mild, per my request. I'm eating it now as I type this and it's very good. I'm also impressed at the amount of chicken it had, as well as mushrooms (I asked for mushrooms instead of bamboo). I opened up the takeout container for lunch today and it's a very good setup - it has rice on one side, then a barrier, the entree. I mostly get my Thai food from my area now (WB/Farmington/Novi) and they've been skimping on the large veggies (mushroom), chicken, and cashews lately - this place did not skimp on anything. They also provided a fork and a napkin in a plastic bag, which was also a smart gesture, assuming that one might be taking the takeout back to an office or somewhere they don't have a fork and napkin. My only TINY complaint is that the dish was a tad bit spicy for me, but my tastebuds have been weird lately, so that's probably on me. Overall, based on this experience, I would definitely do takeout again, or even dine in. read more

My Wife and I alone showed up at 8:10 PM on a Wednesday. They close at 9. We waited five minutes for the lady at the desk while she talked on the phone, not taking any orders and pretending she didn't see us standing in front of her. At 8:15 she got off the phone and told us that "It's 8:15 and they quit seating people at 8:10"so we could not eat there. I feel that she pretended she didn't see us so we would not be able to dine in. Her as matter of fact attitude is what frustrated me. read more

Never had no issues dining in they gave awesome discounts to Lowe's first responders are military. Their service staff and being in here gives off very good vibes. A friend and I went here on a late Saturday afternoon. There was no one else there, so we had no trouble finding a table. The staff were friendly and prompt in taking our order. They seem to do a lot of take out, as there was a steady stream of foot-traffic picking up. The menu is extensive with traditional Thai dishes, available at your desired "heat" level. I had a chicken with yellow curry disk with white rice, medium heat. There was plenty of food on the dish, enough to share with others. The chicken was tender and the curry was very flavorful. We tried the Chicken Satay app - 4 huge pieces of tasty chicken on a stick with a wonderful peanut sauce. Our two entrees were Chicken Pa Pak and Shrimp Pa Preaw Warn, both were fantastic. The oyster sauce was amazing while the sweet & sour was a perfect blend, not too sweet or sour. Portions were large so we had lunch the next day. I had a taste for curry catfish and my "Go-To" Thai restaurant is closed for the Holidays, so I visited Thai Vylai. It has been awhile since I visited. I ordered Pla Duk Pad Ped (crispy catfish stir-fried in a red curry with bamboo shoots, bell pepper, eggplant, and mushrooms). Although there was a very good fry on the catfish, the curry would have benefited from more fish sauce. I also thought the portion size could have been larger. I also gave four stars because the interior could use a facelift. It is dark and detracts from the dining experience. The food took a long time getting out of the kitchen, and the servers could be educated a little better. For example, I received a napkin and was handed a fork. I am not sure why since it is proper Thai etiquette to eat with a fork and spoon; eat with the fork in the left hand and the spoon in the right hand. I had to ask for a spoon. I received an invite a few years ago to give these guys a go. So I gave their menu a browse through since we were fancying Thai. I went with... Pad Thai: (Chicken),, it was very flavorful. Sauce was really good. Portion was a good size as well. Pad Ped: (Chicken) The curry was definitely superb. Perfect to flavor the jasmine rice that comes with my order. Duck Curry: This was the dish that stood out to me. It was a little tough since BBQ duck was prolly a little over done on the grill. But the flavors were really delish. The place is nice and intimate. I can imagine it before the New Normal to be a really nice place to chow down. The whole staff was wearing masks. Yes even the kitchen staff that was constantly popping in and out from the back. I would definitely order my thai food here again if given the chance. So refreshing to be able to dine in and eat Asian food! We both got a spring roll that was very good, with yummy sweet dipping sauce. Hubby got fried rice with chicken and shrimp and loved the heat from the sauce he'd chosen. Not the hottest one, but a combination of hot then fire sauce. I got shrimp in oyster sauce with white rice. Nice jumbo shrimp with green and red peppers, water chestnuts and carrots. We definitely recommend this place and look forward to trying out other dishes. No alcohol is offered, just pop, tea, or water. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. read more

The employees are very rude and last time I was there I seen one of the staff eating out of a box of food before putting it into a bag for a customer. Went here yesterday with some friends - read many reviews beforehand stating that it's not much on the outside or inside but the food is fantastic and I agree! The outside and inside restaurant is small and not much to look at but the food is absolutely delicious. I've never had Thai before but this set the bar really high. Not many people dine in - but rather do take out. We were the only people in the restaurant dining in. Service was fabulous, our waitress who was also running orders for takeout was amazing. She was very patient and kind in helping us chose what to order to try. I got to drink the Thai Chai Tea and to me it resembled a chocolate/hazelnut taste. For my main portion I got the Drunken Noodles with mild spice and it was to die for. I also got one spring roll and that was the best part. The spring roll was perfectly crisp and stuffed to the rim with delicious veggies. All of the food is nicely prepared and so flavorful! For my total alone with tip turned to be $21 dollars. The portions are huge - I had enough to feed me for the next week! I definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon. read more

Filthy establishment, horrible food. Unbussed table for eight greeted me upon entry to pick up a carry out order. Dirty floor and disorderly dining room, some of it used for open storage of flatware, dishes and placemats. I should have walked out, I knew the disorder and filth was a precursor to horrible food--it was. Nothing fresh, no greens, tough rubbery chicken. Every entre (four of four) utilized the same sauce, probably a bottle of oyster sauce from a Chinese restaurant supply. Not one fresh Thai chili or Kafir Lime leaf in anything. Since Covid I cannot find even a marginally acceptable carryout Asian restaurant. Don't waste your good money here, let it die so something better can replace it. read more

Thai Vylai is easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area, and I live in an area with several ones of note. The satay here is leagues above any other I've had, anywhere in the nation. The soups here tend to be a little on the watery side, but every other food is astoundingly good. The Thai fried rice is fantastic, and this place actually understands how to cook chicken correctly, which is surprisingly rare in restaurants nowadays. The portions are rather large and the prices are modest for the quality provided. Something nice about a place like this is that when you order, you get something better than you expect. Imagine if you will, getting nothing instead. There is a place in Ypsilanti Michigan on Washtenaw Road where this is known to be the case. That place is a destitute tarpit known as the Washtenaw Macdonalds. This place one denied me the pleasure and privilege of purchasing 10 Big Macs at 4:15am, even after attempting to bribe one of their constituents $10 to make them for me. When I pulled around to the window to inquire as to why this simple demand couldn't be met, they threatened me menacingly by silently holding up a Necronomicon and chanting in a language I couldn't understand. They were trying to put a curse on me or something, and I can't imagine why. Luckily my spirit was powerful enough to fend off the curse, but I hate when I try to buy fast food and people use voodoo or magick on my soul. This is a Solid 4 restaurant and I can see it being a staple. Was down here for work one evening and could not meet my significant other for dinner stopped in and had read all the previous reviews before especially Al p. So this has been on the shortlist to try soon for some time. It worked great for a quick dinner before heading home the portions were extremely large and service was quite fast. Do not expect anything elaborate this is definitely a sparsely plain restaurant as far as the Decor goes but it makes up for itself in food quality and quantity. The peanut chicken breast is a unique taste and by far did not expect that much out of an appetizer. The chicken Pad Thai was absolutely amazing There's so much food I took it home for lunch the next day. And the Thai iced tea is definitely by far some of the best I've ever had. I would say that the big selling point about this place is that the portions are absolutely unbeatable; I have never seen such consistently large portion sizes and my jaw constantly dropped as I saw them bringing out food to customers. Does this Detroit suburb hold the secret to the best Pad Thai in the metro area? Let's see... "It's complimentary" said the warm and friendly waitress as she sat an aromatic cup of Chicken and Rice Soup in front of me. It was obviously house made, delicious and quite savory. It didn't take me long to scarf it down and when I finished, I wished I had more. Just moments later, she arrived back with a cheerful "Here's your Pad Thai!" as she dropped off a mighty plate of Pad Thai ($8.95) that could easily pass for a dinner serving. It looked good, it smelled good and it tasted alright but frankly it could have been a little bit better. If you've had great Pad Thai, then you know that it has a complex mix of flavors of sweet, spicy, tangy and savory that interplay with each other over your taste buds. Unfortunately, their interpretation of spicy was to simply add extra red pepper flakes which makes for some heat but just doesn't make this dish pop. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not great. In any case, it didn't stop me from eating way more than I should have. I'd say their Pad Thai is standard but doesn't set the standard. Everything else was excellent though and there is a whole menu of other Thai dishes to explore here. 4 Stars and I'll be back. read more

Being a vegetarian I have plenty of options. My favorites so far. They start with a complementary soup of the day. Most of the time made with chicken broth. So I had to skip. Pa Se-ewe Flavorful and moist rice noodles with bean sprouts and what ever protein you want , I get veggies or tofu, extra charge if you want get both.
