We came here for one dish in particular and that was the crispy pad see ew! I had high expectations for it, and they were definitely met. It was crispy, sweet, salty, and addicting! It felt like you were eating a noodle dish but in chip form. The service was okay... it took them a while to take our order since they were chatting with tables. But I understand it's not their fault if the customers have questions. The ambiance had a lot of Thai decor, and it was a little dim in there. Thai Valley is a great place to come and eat lots of food! We used to eat here almost every other day but then covid shut everyone down. So now they open only a few days a week and I think a lot of people have found alternative options and their restaurant is suffered a little. Hands down, best Thai food in the Chicago land area. I used to come here as a child with my parents and this is our "family" restaurant. When we have a special milestone, we will come here. The food has consistently been delicious for the past 30 years. We will drive 50 minutes from the suburbs where we live now to come here and eat. The service is always spot on. There's one server in the restaurant but it's never taken away from the service. He's personable and always remembers us. A familiar face makes for a comfortable experience. I've been going here for dinners for 20 years. Same owner, who also supplies the recipes and trains the cook. Same waiter! I love the food. I particularly love the Tom Kai Gai. They make it just right here - savory with a nice amount of lime juice and slight saltiness. Yes, a little touch of sweetness but not so terribly sweet as many Thai restaurants make it. It's a savory soup, not a dessert! I can't stand the over-sweet way most places make it, but Thai Valley makes it JUST RIGHT. I usually order it medium spicy, which brings a little heat. Sometimes I order it HOT and then it fogs my glasses and singes my hair - but sometimes that's the way I want it! Their curries are very flavorful, and they have the best pad woon sen I've ever had. The worst Thai food in the northside of Chicago. Noodles and Co. makes a better Pad Thai than this place. We ordered pad thai, spring rollls and crab rangoon. Had the lunch special which comes with an appetizer, soup, and entrée. Could not tell what was in the soup of the day, and the odor was very offputting so we did not really eat it. My wife introduced me to Thai Valley - it was actually our first date. Thai food can be hit or miss but this place hits all the right notes for us. If you order medium spicy it will have a nice kick. The veggies we've had are always fresh and the lunch special, even take-out, is a steal. Faves of the house are the Pad Thai and the Pad Ka Praw with ground chicken (the basil is present but doesn't bang you over the head and overpower the dish). The green curry is also a go-to. My wife had eaten here for years and for some reason just had never got around to the green curry. Once she did I got blamed for not "telling her about it sooner". (Playful banter...don't read anything in to it.) Curry is not a must-have dish for me but it was very satisfying and, again, just hit the right notes for me. In case the perspective helps the Tom Yum soup takes me back to a hole-in-the-wall place in Bridgeview my parents used to take me to when I was eight. There were three tables...mostly pick-up/delivery. COVID/CURRENT...they're only open Thursday through Sunday currently, and not for dine-in. Every time I pick up an order I make sure to ask the owner when he's going to open for dine-in again, or at least every day of the week. Trying to get a grass-roots campaign going. If possible, try to bring a cash tip for Fidel. Anyone who has worked in the industry will get that subtle nudge. Final tip - I played it "safe" with my first order on that date with my wife and I was not "wowed". That was my fault. Very fast delivery! I ordered Pad See Ewe, Combo fried rice and Green Curry Chicken. The prices are FANTASTIC!! I would have given a higher rating but I asked for them to burn the noodles a little so they would be crispy and I'm pretty sure they must have been busy as the fried rice seemed to be made out of hot freshly cooked rice instead of day old/cold. Wow. Better than most thai places. For $7 you get an entree, soup, and appetizer. Really? A bit greasy but full of flavor. It's been here for years. Last time I tried food here was when my coworker brought me here 5 years ago. He was a salesman and I was a warehouse assistant. He said, this place is pretty good, I always come here. I didn't believe him until I started eating. Good lord! Other places have pad Thai that is bland, tastes like soap, or has a crapload of oil and no other flavors. And they're overpriced! Delivery: Anytime I visited a particular relative, they'd order takeout from here. That's how I began to take a liking for Thai food. The food was always well prepared, warm and fresh. Near the front door there are many plants and a board stand-up of a Thai woman? Maybe a Thai airline stewardess?? Perhaps you are supposed to think you just got off the airplane and were transported to Thailand. I dunno. Very laid back approach to dining. Unless you are a regular you won't be able to distinguish their wait staff from a customer. Service is better when the dining room is full. On lazy nights, find yourself calling out for service or walking down to the desk so they call the waiter. Which still, is, retarded since they have a mini camera watching the front. Pay attention to your tip is what I want to yell out. Parking: You are limited to street parking, which is hard to find usually. Cost: due to the popularity, a simple order for three could run up to $40. Something happened recently which really grossed me out and just lingers in my brain. It involves the old Thai dude which is usually manning the counter. I'm just going to fast forward to save us time. So, it's the end of the meal and the waiter is nowhere to be found. I walk over to the counter and as I look up at him, he's got his index finger flying up into nose picking position. He didn't notice me walk up, so he's got his finger flying up into his nose, with a quick twist around inside and out. He's a pro at this maneuver. I call him over, cause I need a container to carry out my Beef Panang and the bill. My friend is watching him and also witnessed the booger pick. Old guy packs my curry and hands the bill over. As we walk out my friend says "dude, are you going to eat that?" "Why, you want it?" "Heck no, that dude picked his nose and then packed your curry." The interior of the restaurant is outdated and I even like that because their food is well prepared and tasty. For the last 20 years I love to go there to sit and eat with my friends in their unpretentious restaurant's environment. When I ordered take out during Covid time I ordered more food thinking the portions could be smaller because of hardship the restaurants are experiencing. Thai Valley didn't disappoint. Their portions are still generous with very popular prices, The best bang for your buck. Thai Valley is quite good and at a reasonable price. The spring rolls are best ordered with the sauce on the side (note to self as well as the rest of you) and the egg rolls were delish (but how can you mess that up aside from bad oil or burning, right?!). The Pad Thai is rather good, comparatively. I'm not a fan of the sweet, reddish sauce on my Pad Thai and this place is not an example of that, thankfully. Given the price and decency of the food, the value proposition here is quite worthy of a very good review. It's also a few business fronts over from a liquor store if you forget it's a BYOB (but the liquor store has a credit card minimum of around $20, so drink up!). From the times I've been there it seems like there is only one guy working, and its the same guy every single time. He will juggle all the tables and work the counter as well.
