Binghamton was not a place where I thought I'd find halfway decent Thai food. Located in downtown Binghamton near their cluster of restaurants, Thai Time is a pretty nice spot that has a dining room, bar and even outdoor seating on the water if you're in the mood. The decor is nice and has the nice touches of Thai artwork hanging on the walls. The menu is eclectic - lots of Thai dishes and even more sushi. I suppose in a place like Binghamton, you want to cater to as broad an audience as possible and offer dishes that are well known to those less familiar. Good thing that both sides of the menu are pretty decent. Their drunken noodles were really good and I like the fact that they allow you to customize the spice level (I told them to make it as spicy as possible and it didn't disappoint). Sushi was also better than expected. Prices are fair and service is incredibly friendly. Parking can be a bear in the area but that's about the only downside I could think of. So...I sent this place an email immediately after I ordered for my work, after I had tasted mine and my coworkers' orders. I was very polite with said email, and figured it was an off night for them and gave them and chance to the right thing and remake it or credit it for another time. To my unfortunate surprise they did not even bother to reply to the email. So here we are... IT WAS JUST GOD AWFUL ATROCIOUS. You'd think for over 150$ of food they should be deeply embarrassed at how awful it was. This was like a group of 5th graders read what Thai food looks like and tried to replicate it with poor decisions and expired ingredients. I really didn't want it to come to this, and as you can tell I rarely review but this is a special case and well, they earned it. Visit thus restaurant at your own risk, especially if you are disabled and require an ADA accommodation. I have a service dog, and informed the restaurant in advance that I was coming in for dinner with the dog. But when I arrived, I was subjected to innumerable questions at the hostess stand about the dog, asked about other people sitting around me who might be allergic to the dog, and made to wait an interminable period of time while I was passed off, first to a supervisor and then to an assistant manager (manager never showed) and finally told that if I could not produce papers verifying the status of the dog as a service animal, it would be an "inconvenience" for them to seat me. However, I was told that if I took the dog home and came back, they would reserve a table for me. I finally took the dog home, and I returned, but when I paid the bill, found that they had also attempted to charge me for a $9 dessert which I did not eat, and had to dispute with the server. These are violations of the Americans for Disabilities Act and when public restaurants treat the disabled this way, it is an assault on every one of us. Under the ADA, no business can demand to see certification or verification documents on the status of the dog. They can ask ONLY two questions: if the dog is required because of a disability, and what specific task is the dog trained to perform. They cannot ask the person to state their specific disability or charge extra fees due to any "inconvenience" (the $9 dessert?) I reported this event to the United States Justice Dept, Office of ADA, as should anyone discriminated against in this manner. I also urge anyone dining here to inform staff that you are aware of their discriminatory treatment of the disabled and that if they don't change their policy, that conduct will be considered when they make their next dining choice in our area. read more

This place is not much to look at from the outside but you will be pleasantly surprised when you walk past the hostess stand and into the main restaurant. I ended up sitting on the balcony overlooking the Chenago river. The food was 7.5 out of 10 (it would have been 8/10 but the green mussel garlic appetizer was not as warm as I would have liked). The Babcock ocean entree was delicious. I didn't really care for The Empress "mocktail", but later found out it was the cocktail, which includes the stoli blueberry vodka (my server was new and it was an honest mistake). I got the spicy basil with my choice of meat, chicken, and Bangkok garlic, also chicken, as well as crispy Thai rolls. Both my main dishes came with a variety of stir fried vegetables: corn, snow peas, broccoli, cabbage, carrots. All of it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The Bangkok dish was sautéed in garlic, and it was very garlicky and full of flavor. Their pho looked great, but I ordered this delivery from a hotel room, so it wasn't practical. Order was fast and correct through DoorDash. Dishes come in spice levels of low, mild, medium, hot, and very hot. I got "hot," and it was very spicy, but not unpleasant. Not Americanized in my opinion. They also had had curries, various dishes with poultry and seafood, rice dishes, and other staples. Great flavors, good value, definitely try it. read more

I haven't been here in at least 10 years. Pretty much the same decor and looked nice and clean. Service was good but our server was not very engaging or enjoyable. Seemed as though she couldn't care less if she was there. The food was just ok, just barely.. all the rice was good, in the pineapple rice, and the white rice served with the spicy basil dish. The proteins however were all terrible. The tofu in the first dish was clearly cooked ahead and just tossed in the fried rice. Little tough rubber squares. The shrimp and chicken in the spicy basil dish were cooked ahead as well. The chicken were these thin slices of white meat that were tasteless and rubbery. The shrimp smelled a little fishy, but both clearly pre-cooked. Very disappointing dinner. Do not go here if you want real Thai food. Probably won't return. read more

Absolute worst experience here - waited an hour and a half for our TWO item order. Called in an order for pick up 6:45, they said it would take 30 minutes. We were running late, and got to the restaurant at 7:45 and it still was not ready. We proceeded to stand there and wait until 8:15 and still no sign of our food. Finally we tell them we have been waiting for over an hour when we were told it would be 30 minutes - well they clearly lost our order because they took another 15 minutes to give us our meal - mind you it was only a Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles - and they had to take one of the meals from a dine-in customer, put it in a container and handed it to us. The hostess was very apologetic, but seriously?? We got nothing for waiting that long - could have at least given us some sort of discount as an apology. Went here with a friend Monday night. Sat outside. There were a few tables around us occupied but no one really inside, including the bar. Our table was passed at least 10 times by the servers before I grabbed one and asked if we had one? (Other tables had been sat after us and greeted before us). Finally, someone comes over to us to take our order. An apology would've been nice (and listen I know stuff happens in restaurants and there's miscommunication sometimes with who's taking what table but at least try to make up for it?). Our app came out before our drinks (we ordered wine and like I said, bar was empty). Entrees were pretty good but do yourself a favor and don't get the chicken since it is rubbery and flavorless. We used to go a lot more often because the food was good enough to overlook the personnel issues. But apparently, they have literally reached the bottom of the barrel on staffing. More on that in a second. The first thing everyone notices about Thai Time is what a pain in the ass parking is. Good luck finding a spot within a half mile even at slow times. And given the quality of servers, there should be nothing BUT slow times at this restaurant. I have never had a complaint about the quality of the food. Every menu item I've ever tried has been great. Portions these days seem to be smaller, however, while prices have inched upward. I'm not too worried about paying a little bit more, given inflation and all, but having nothing but sour-faced, bored, dismissive, and downright rude people handling our table of two makes paying more and getting less an unacceptable trade-off. The Goth girl with the two-inch fingernails never smiled the entire time my friend and I were having lunch. And aside from OUR table, there were maybe two others with people at them. The rest of the place was empty. In addition to my lunch order, I'd brought a take-out order as well to bring food home to my family, two of whom are required, unfortunately, to eat gluten-free. Ordinarily, the staff there is accommodating and in the past has taken this dietary restriction seriously. Not so much now. The girl at the register handling the take-out order seemed annoyed at ME because she managed to put meatballs (not gluten-free) in the Pho. She seemed exceedingly irritated that I had her walk the ten feet back to the chef to inquire about whether the meatballs are gluten-free. After at least three annoyed scuffles back and forth, she came out and proclaimed that they're "pretty sure" they're gluten-free. Spoiler alert: they are NOT. I don't like being lied to by people preparing my food and charging me not insignificant money for it. She, the chef, and the other girl assisting with bagging up my take-out order ALL lied about the gluten-free status of the meatballs and could NOT have seemed less concerned about it. I did not write "meatballs" on my order. I wrote Beef Pho. They have Beef Pho with meatballs and without. The genius who filled the order took it upon herself to add meatballs, leading to a good ten minutes of her eye-rolling and scuffling back and forth. Shame on her and whoever hired her. Needless to say, there isn't anything in that restaurant I can't make at home, so that's what I will choose to do from now on. The place has changed, and not for the better, and I predict it won't be long before it joins a number of area restaurants closing their doors because of insufficient business. They came out of the kitchen one at a time over a 20 minute period. The waiter Josh, was apologetic and explained the kitchen was backed up with takeout orders. This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the Chenango River. Beautiful sights of the city with very friendly, helpful staff. Food: What initially drew us into Thai Time was their Fushion Roll selection. So we ordered the Red Lobster Roll and the Fiery Viking Roll. My boyfriend and I enjoyed both rolls. Each had their own unique taste and we would definitely come back for more! For our entree, we both decided to order the Pad Thai (with shrimp and chicken). These dishes weren't terrible, but both of us felt that we've had better elsewhere. There was just nothing special about the Pad Thai. We would definitely order something else next time. Excellent curry place! Well, excellent yellow curry. I can't speak to the others, because I'm not brave enough yet, and I have a hard time imagining something better than yellow. They are a bit skimpy on the meat in the curry. The curry is plenty for 2, but we ordered shrimp, with extra shrimp, and there were maybe 8 in the dish. Split in 2, it is somewhat underwhelming. Chicken satay is a bit dry, but the peanut sauce that comes with it is very nice. Pepper shrimp is shrimp fried in a wonton-simple but tasty. It seems like all of their noodle dishes are the flat, wide noodles. Not really a fan, but they are serviceable. Yellow curry fried rice a little curry flavor, and as with the curry itself, skimpy on the meat. Chicken with extra chicken had very few strips of thin chicken. So I came back for restaurant week and much better experience then the first time in terms of food. I got the crispy rolls which were essentially egg rolls that were tiny but expected for restaurant week. I got pho as the entree and I was surprised at how good it turned out to be. So far the best pho in the area, although there are few pho restaurants in general. The broth was flavorful, plenty of meat to noodle ratio, and noodles weren't over or under cooked. Some negatives were the way the meats were cut, it was thick which made the round steak hard to chew. Typical the round steak is cut very thin. The meat balls were very tender and plentiful. Overall, a very nice surprise to have pho at a Thai place. In terms of service, unfortunately this time was not so great. They sat me quick but it took about 5-10 mins to actually get my order or for anyone to even notice I hadn't been helped. I didn't get any water for a while. There weren't too many customers and plenty of servers but they all kind of glanced at me and I guess because it wasn't their assigned table they didn't say anything. The food is pretty tasty but be prepared for slow and awkward service whether you eat in or get take out. I have been here many times, and the wait staff always seems a bit flustered. Today my take out order was "lost" even though the cashier remembers entering it into the system. I gave them extra time to prepare knowing they would likely be later than the expected pick-up time, and here I am waiting longer, along with other customers whose orders are late or screwed up. As for suggesions, I'm vegan so I get the spring roll without the shrimp with peanut dipping sauce (hard to get recently because they are now made ahead of time with the shrimp in them) . I was staying in Binghamton for the night on my way to NYC and stopped by Thai Time for dinner. I had the unagi sushi rolls & the unagi don. Both tasted great! The service was adequate and the waitress was nice and did a great job, despite the fact that it was busy at the bar and the floor tables, inside & out. My only advice is that the unagi don, although great (the eel, seaweed salad & cucumber) the rice on the bottom of the dish/bowl was too much on the unagi don. I would have rather just had the rolls for $8 instead of $15 for the unagi don, had I known the bottom was a rice plantation, literally! Tone it down on the rice on the bottom of the bowl. Other than that, great tasting dishes. Oh, & they DON'T take Amex cards. C'mon, as a business in downtown at a time when we're soon going competely cashless, work on accepting all major cards.
