We discovered this place last year when my son started at Binghamton University, and now that he lives at UClub, it's incredibly convenient since the restaurant is right there. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a traditional Chinese theme and feels spacious, clean, and comfortable, with plenty of seating. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. We consistently order the spicy beef noodle soup, the regular beef noodle soup, and the spicy fish fillets with tofu. The broth is rich, deep, and full of flavor, and the beef is perfectly tender. The spicy fish fillets with tofu is my go‑to dish. Just think of a spicy fish version of mapo tofu, and you won't be disappointed. After driving for 3 hours, ended up here on a recommendation of a friend. The menu was overwhelming, but our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and was able to steer us in the direction we wanted to go. It's one of the most authentic-tasting Szechuan meals I have ever had. My only negative is I got fried rice for $2, and it was very lackluster. The dishes we had were unlike anything we've had, and so memorable! Intense flavor with lots of depth and spice, and all the vegetables and tofu in the dry pot entree were cooked so well. I wouldn't get this as take out- the dry pot presentation was half the fun! Our other dish was chicken soupy style, which had an incredible spicy chili oil sauce that went well with plain rice. I this restaurant. The dim sum was delish! My favorites are the shrimp dumplings and the shrimp in fried tofu skins. The shrimp with chives was also delicious as were the soup dumplings. We also had a dish called lamb soupy which was also very tasty and it came out in a huge bowl that was enough to serve four people. The service is excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and the bathroom was clean. Yes, it is a little bit pricey. Having read the many positive reviews, I was looking forward to a delivery order about 7:00 pm on a weekend. However, I couldn't have been more disappointed. We ordered General Tsao's chicken, lo mein, fried dumplings and pork fried rice. The General Tsao's was very favorable, however, also very chewy which is an indication it had been sitting around for awhile and microwaved prior to delivery. Likewise with the lo mein which was inedible and ended up in the garbage. Dumplings were tasty, but chewy. Fried rice was good - the only acceptable dish in the order. An authentic Chinese restaurant in Binghamton? Sign me up. Located a few minutes off the BU campus, this place is likely meant to give students from NYC a taste of home and it does that in spades. The outside is unassuming but inside, the owners spared no expense in making this place look fantastic. The decor looks like it could be out of Flushing and the menu most definitely does too. The restaurant serves the usual Chinese American standards but also some really authentic stuff like mala dry hot pot. Went here today for lunch. Everyone was nice for the most part, the space is pleasant and the food was overall very good. A couple of things that could have been better: 1. We got the soup dumplings and they came out stuck to each other. A bit annoying because you loose soup trying to pick them up. 2. I wish there was more soup in the soup dumplings. Some had more than others and one of them had none. 3. The food came out in a strange order and rather slow. The restaurant wasn't busy, so that was surprising. My appetizer came out with my lunch mates entree, which was strange. 5. Service was fine - nothing special. The sour cabbage and fish soup was perfectly seasoned, and the shredded pork with dry bean curd was smoky and had a rich deep flavor. There were varied seating options, some of which included table cook tops. I am not a Chinese takeout fan, but really enjoyed the variety and dishes offered. My husband ordered the beef and broccoli and enjoyed it. It was cold out, and I wanted soup! My server recommended the szechuen beef noodle soup. The flavor was good and noodles filled my belly, but I was not ready for spice level. So be warned my kids both ordered the boa and gobbled them right up (after cooling them off from the steamer). Anyone that knows me knows that I only post a review of exceptional restaurants and that my favorite cuisine is Szechuan Chinese. I went to college in Binghamton and go back very often since the late 1980's. If someone had told me that their was GREAT Szechuan in Binghamton I would have laughed and said they had no idea what they are talking about. All that changed yesterday afternoon. I was in Binghamton picking up my younger son to take him home for the semester. My older son who also goes to school up there was with us. They have both grown up with an appreciation of my obsession to find great food. He younger one had heard good things and suggested we go there. Best suggestion of the year. The first sign of a great Szechuan restaurant is the menu..You know this place is the real deal. We ordered soup dumplings (although dumplings in chili oil would have been a great call as well). They were absolutely delicious. The skins had a nice chew and the broth was very flavorful. Soup dumplings in Binghamton!!! Next we went with a couple of dishes use as a baseline to exceptional. We have the special dry pot with lotus root, potatoes, beef, chicken, shrimp, and spam. It was spot on. I like it a bit spicier than the boys so I added some of their homemade chili oil (pro move..You need this). Not overly spicy but it had a warming aromatic heat. We then had the crispy Szechuan fish fillers..when done right they are crispy and the coating doesn't overpower the fish (flounder). They vege and chili oil were the perfect flavor enhancers. We finished off with dry sautéed string beans. When done right they have the traditional wok char and always are cooked with Szechuan preserved vegetable. These did not disappoint. Truly one of the best Chinese meals I have had and certainly the absolute best outside of the NYC metro area. When we were paying we talked about have impressed we were and that we were fortunate to live close to another great Szechuan place one town over in Deer Park Long Island. It turns out the the owners here are very close friends with the owners our our local fave...FAN on Commack Road right by the Tanget Outlets in Deer Park. I'm not surprised. Great Chinese is based on a commitment to authentic dishes and ingredients. (make sure you go to FAN is you are in heading to Tanger) Bravo to the owners of Red Chili. Don't let the name of this place fool you, it is legit. I was not as well-versed in Szechuan cuisine outside of the more popular Mapo Tofu, baos, and dumplings, so I was excited to try some other recommendations from fellow Yelpers and friends. And let me tell you... this place never disappoints. We always have leftovers, which I absolutely love because I cannot get enough of this place! I have tried many of the suggestions of other Yelpers here, such as the Cold Sesame Noodles, Soup Dumplings, Spicy Crispy Style Fish, Cumin Style Chicken, and Dried Sautéed String Beans that I get again and again. But I'd also like to offer some unique options of my own you might not have considered. The Fermented Cabbage & Fish Soup. My family was hesitant at first, but it turned out to be one of the best soups I've ever had. It definitely had that little fermented sour kick to it, but it was so flavorful and delicious with fish that melts in your mouth. The Sauteed Squid with Pickled Red Hot Pepper. I love squid dishes in general (ojingeo-bokkeum is my fave Korean dish, for example) and this one was incredible. The sourness of the pickled peppers mixes so well with the spicy sauce. If you're hesitant to try Szechuan food, any of the "classic Chinese" dishes you'd see at an Americanized Chinese place are winners. All of them are such good quality, especially the Beef with Broccoli. You can't really go wrong, but I would definitely recommend trying the Szechuan food because it's amazing. If you're unfamilar with the cuisine, just note that some dishes like Mapo Tofu have Szechuan peppercorns, which have a numbing-spicy effect, so when they ask how "spicy" you want the dish, that's what they mean. It's completely different than what most Americans recognize as "spicy" so it might be worth going mild for your first try. If I have one critique it is that the service can sometimes be inconsistent. Other reviews address this, but since the food is so good and I've only encountered it briefly out of all the times I've gone, it does not impact my review. I just love that every time I come here there's something new I can try because the menu is so vast and the ambiance is lovely. This is a place I come back to again and again! read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the food, which is authentic, spicy, and delicious! The beef tendon with chili oil is one of the best that I've had - it has just the right amount of spice. They also have other vegetables that aren't listed on the menu. Ask the staff here, and they would be more than happy to make the dish if they have the ingredients. We were looking for a place to eat nearby Bing and found this place. They serve Szechuan Style food which is something we love to eat. We got the beef dry hot pot, cumin lamb, and string beans. We also ordered some dim sum, the ha gow & chicken feet. Everything we ordered was delicious, nice and spicy but still packing a lot of flavor. My personal favorite was the cumin lamb, you get the numbing spice but also still full of flavor from the cumin. The string beans were also delicious and a good break from all the spicy food we ordered. The chicken feet were nice and tender, the skin falling right off the bone while the sauce was nice and sweet. Ha Gow was just okay to me, it's nothing like the fresh ones you get at dim sum places but if you're really craving it this would be the place to get it at. Very spacious interior, did not expect so much space. Food review: Fried rice amazing, juicy, flavorful, appreciated the use of the chinese ground pepper. This was a game changer for me. In my opinion this got it five stars. Spicy chicken (f19) breading was delicious. Very spicy, but not overwhelmed with red chili pieces which so many restaurants do. Salt and pepper fish - fish meat seemed hard, wasn't very crispy. Not sure if that's how it's served. I wouldn't get it again Xiao long bao- decent, not the best xiaolongbao I've eaten in my opinion, not a lot of soup. Shrimp dumpling, also decent. Not something I would talk to my friends about. Both slushes (Mango and Strawberry) were just about the best slushes I have ever had. Not too much ice, and was very sweet. Definitely a reorder. A bit pricey in my opinion. Since my mom cannot handle spice, we ordered the dried sautéed string beans, soup buns and sizzling style pork. I was a little worried about the quality of the soup buns, since it was late in the evening and is a dim sum dish, but the waiter assured me they would be fine. The soup buns are smaller than what I am used too and light on the broth, but the flavor was amazing. The sizzling style pork was literally enough food to feed 4 people. The flavor was good, a little sour, but I probably would not order it again as it was just ok. My favorite by far was the string beans, I kid you not. The best I have ever had. Period. I could have eaten the whole plate by myself with nothing else and if you dared to stick your hand in there to get some, I would slap it away.
