I explained that I had booked using a gift card and I understood I would need to pay for the additional service that I requested. They insisted that my gift card was expired and that I wasn't able to use it. This is INSANE as I just received the gift card a few months ago. After arguing with me for about 10 minutes, they insisted I pay via Venmo and did not allow me to use my credit card. They then stopped me and insisted that I send an additional tip. I will never be returning to Ocean Spa.

I was tired of bouncing around, so I gave it time to see if things might improve. In the end, she agreed it was not the right fit. What was most disappointing was how it was handled. It took several calls, emails, and texts from me to learn that my sessions had been canceled less than 24 hours before my next appointment. The front desk told me the owner was supposed to call me about the cancellations and to suggest an alternative therapist, but that call never happened, and there was no follow up afterward. There was also a brief moment that stood out. I had left more than 20 percent, though less than the week before because the experience felt different. When I shared that, it was suggested that the front desk might not have passed the full amount along. That surprised me, as the front desk team has always been consistently kind, professional, and trustworthy. I want to be clear that the front desk staff are excellent. They make scheduling seamless, communicate thoughtfully, and create a welcoming environment every time you walk in. I am writing this because I cared about this place. I used to genuinely look forward to coming here. Moving on feels like losing something familiar, almost like losing a friend. I would still welcome a one on one conversation with the owner, as I would have appreciated that before. I hope the practice finds its way back to what once made it so special.

I gave this a five because I believe as a massage/body stretch deserve it. How I got to Mary was because my back was hurting and I needed to do something different then what I was. Western medicine. I'm a middle age blue collar worker with a blue collar back it's ( Junk). I was inline at DDs and the man in front of me was talking about a woman name Mary from Cambridge had relieved his back pain. So the next day I googled Mary and called her we spoke talked of what I had for pain and was doing about it. She said she could help and I made a appointment. I arrived and in front of me was a multi colored hair slender giant. Not what I was expecting. But within a matter of minutes the way she carries herself and calmed me with her down to earth personality we got down to business. 90 minutes later I was as loose and free of pain then I was in twenty years. I have never been stretched and bent in that many ways. I have be come a convert to the eastern style. I also can say Mary has not only help my back and body. She has change my way of looking at life and others. I have never written a review for anything in my life as you can probably tell. I absolutely love getting massaged by Mary. She takes the time to figure out what you need and with her knowledge of the thai massage is able to pick out techniques to suit your exact requests. Her soothing voice, confidence in her practice as well as her smooth transitions lull you into relaxing to gain the full benifit of your experience. She paces her movements beautifully with your breath, and is not afraid to remind you to breath if needed. Mary is also attentive to requested varying pressures ranging from a lovely relaxing massage to a deep massage revieling muscles you may never knew existed. Mary is amazing at putting my body back into the right position with grace and strength. The ambiance of her work space is very relaxing. Her rates are quite affordable for the healing expertise she provides. I always leave an appointment with her feeling light as a cloud, totally aligned and full of energy. When I competed in my first Sprint Triathlon, Mary helped me recover between training sessions and after the event she got me back to feeling normal in no time. Mary is great at what she does: she changes her routine so that I never feel like it's "the same old thing", unlike some other therapists that I have been to. She is also a fun and easy-going person. For me, it's not just a massage but a real body workout. Love the way she stretches me and pushes me to my limit. I also appreciate the fact that Mary has a sliding scale for payment, though at first, I was not comfortable with it. I felt bad that I could not give her the full price she deserves, but if I did so, I would not be able to come back once every month. Mary put me at ease with that thought. I highly recommend this type of healing and this particular healer. Mary is very skilled at what she does and she understands how to energetically hold a safe space for healing. Beyond the physical work she does, she is able to connect and really help guide her clients towards release within themselves. One day I was walking down the street and entered this place. Being a woman I feel more comfortable being served by women, so being served by Mary made me feel confident. In the middle of the massage HE STARTED TO GRAB ME IN AN INAPPROPRIATE WAY, PUTTING HIS HANDS INTO MY UNDERWEAR AND RASHING MY INTIMATE PARTS. She was able to hone in on bad spots in my shoulder's nerve causing some numbness in my fingers, help one of my ribs go back to the right place, and almost put me to sleep when she massaged my head and neck. She doesn't have a static routine she works through every visit. She will get everywhere you ask, but she has a talent to find out where you need it most. But... I think I finally found my masseuse guys. She gave me the best massage I've had in YEARS. Why would going deep in a particular area of my shoulder cause my left foot to tingle? Why is the slight lower back pain I've had for months now gone after she fixed a weird alignment thing in my right hip I didn't even realize was there, but that she felt? Why is it 3 days later and I still have that buttery calm post-massage feeling (I showered, I promise, so it's not that!)? She uses yummy smelling natural stuff like coconut oil and shea butter with essential oils - no mystery chemical smells while the massage is going on. Her space in Arlington is relaxed and clean and homey. I've mostly gone to more spa-like environments for massages and wasn't sure what this would be like, but I can say the coziness and warm lighting was preferable! All that said, she could move her practice to the #1 bus stop in Central Square and I'd probably still go see her. That's how good she is. She is a truly special talent in this field and I'll be going back as often as my wallet allows it :)
