I was excited to see a Thai place in the old America Wild Burger. When saw they used to be by the Des Plaines Theater, I loved the optics of the story. Is a small space and great to see a lot of activity with people coming in and out. Lady at the counter was pleasant. Unfortunately the food was a bit meh. The chicken pad Thai was mushy and a bit bland. Egg rolls had good crunch but no particular flavor or texture inside. I'd give the shrimp fried rice a thumbs up as well as the Mongolian beef. The chicken pad see ew was also a dish lacking flavor. Not a terrible place but can't say much more. read more

Their Pad See Ew is literally my favorite meal to eat, ever. I highly recommend this place. They are fast with preparing it, and so so good.

Order taker was friendly, helpful and accurate. She told me how many minutes it would take to be ready ( 20 minutes). The order was ready when I arrived. They were very kind when asked to add another entree and promptly prepared it. It is real Thai food just like you'd eat in Bangkok. All our orders were good sized portions. We ordered pad kha Pow gai ( basil chicken mild)and pad kee mao gai ( drunken noodle chicken- medium spicy) which was super good! It had Lots of vegetables and chicken. Pad Thai chicken - very, very good just missed the lime. My 3 year old and 15 month old loved it too! And the mixed vegetable with steamed brown rice. The were many types of fresh vegetables (broccoli, baby corn, green beans. Cucumber-like vegetable among many others. I highly recommend THAI square!!!! I'll be going back much more frequently. I have a lot of Thai friends in Ireland where I live, many of whom are chefs so I get to eat a lot of Thai food in people's homes where they do their best cooking. Best of all, if you like Thai people you will really love the owners and staff at Thai Square! When I was visiting Des Plaines recently they welcomed me like family and really looked after me. Ordered the Red Curry Shrimp lunch special toady and am a little disappointed. For $10 ($6.95 + $2.00 for shrimp and tax) I got a small egg roll, which had a nice crunch and decent taste; but nothing special. Additionally, the curry was lacking flavor and spice...the portion was small and consisted of mostly bamboo shoots, a couple of green beans and 5 shrimp. No eggplant. The Thai decor is fancy yet small dining room. Parking is in the rear of their restaurant. The menu prices are excellent who is on a budget. The portion are the just right not too small not too large. The dishes are delicious but a little bit too salty. Waitress admitted she and the staff are Chinese, NOT Thai folks. The waitress was a bit polite until she asked me: If I was Chinese, she lost her polite status when she told me: "You do not know how to speak Chinese, thats all," I became angry and annoyed by that particular question. This phrase was very impolite. She is the most impolite waitress and greeter I met. I NEVER EVER want to go in that place again. Customer Service is very important for all restaurants. Wow, I'm impressed. Tonight I ordered carry-out from Thai Square, and I forgot to ask for no egg. My fault, not theirs. When I am at home eating my food, they call me up to tell me they forgot to hold the egg. "No, that's OK," I said. "I forgot to ask you to do it; it isn't your fault. I'll just eat around it." Then they insisted that they should have remembered that I ask for it that way--which they actually did, albeit after I already had the food. I was amazed when they offered to make me a new one! I thanked them but said that was OK, they didn't have to do that. The woman on the phone promised to remember for me next time, if I forget. Seriously. I have been/am a regular at several restaurants. Never has the staff at any other establishment called me up and offered to make me a new dish because they didn't correct me when I ordered my own food wrong. That is some insane dedication, right there. This place also has so many regulars that I can't imagine how they remember us all, down to our dietary preferences. Just...wow. read more

Thai Square has been around since '08 in downtown Des Plaines. The restaurant offers appetizers, soup, salads, noodles, fried rice, curries, entrees, lunch specials, and desserts. Some friends and I came here for an early dinner and were seated right away. I had the Pad See Ewe with the chicken, but was disappointed with the dish - the noodles were terribly overcooked, doubling its size due to the engorgement of water; while the chicken was plentiful and the flavor was pretty good, the undercooked broccoli and the overcooked noodles made it more on the unappetizing end. My friends had the Pad Thai, and even that dish contained overcooked noodles. I really liked the plate of complimentary persimmons you receive with your check, which gives you a nice little ending to your meal. The place itself is not too big, and it seems to be a local favorite for lunch. This place is easy to find - right in the heart of downtown Des Plaines next to the theater. I came here for lunch on a Friday with some co-workers. The place feels cozy and had adequate seating for the lunch rush. They have lunch specials for $6.95, which includes the dish and appetizer of the day (which in our case was an eggroll). I ordered the standard for me when I try new thai places - pad see ewe. I enjoyed my dish and there was plenty of it. The noodles were cooked well and weren't too heavy, greasy, or mushy. The one star was knocked off only for the amount of chicken I had on my plate - there could have been more. My coworkers ordered the spicy basil and pad kee mao and both liked their meals. Overall a solid place for lunch, take out, or dinner. I noticed dinner-sized noodle dishes are around $7.95 or so, depending on the dish, which seems pretty reasonable. read more

By far one of the greatest Des Plaines treasures! This lovely dining affair used to be a Chinese hole-in-the-wall type place. Thankfully they changed, cause if I wanted oily fried stuff I'd go to the Mexican place next door. Meals are around 8-9 a piece. No Alcohol is served here. Appetizers, drinks, meals, and desert came out in record times. Started with the fresh spring rolls, which were very nice. The black bean and plum sauce drizzled on them was fantastic! Dinner was Sweet and Sour Tofu for myself and a fried noodle dish with tofu, onion, and broccoli. The sweet and sour was good, but after the first 20 bites it gets overwhelming, like any S&S dish. The broccoli dish was Superb! For desert, we took home Bananas in Coconut milk and Thai pudding. I should have had them there, but it was still great when I got home, despite losing heat. The Pudding was like Thailand's answer to Italy's Tiramisu, except no liquor. That was pretty good, but not my cup of tea. Speaking of, the hot tea and Thai Iced was phenomenal. Overall, a joyous wonder of delectables for a vegetarian like myself, and good choices for carnivores too. I plan to go once a week. You just can't make those kinds of dishes for those prices, especially when full meal size deserts and appetizers are 3-6 dollars in price range. Waitress/owner was very intelligent about her food, spices, and it's history. most of it is imported directly from Thailand. Her English is remarkable for a Thai native. I heart this place. I heart this place a little too much according to my waistline. Having moved from California, land of the BEST Thai restaurant in the world (Juanthong Bambua) we were sadly disappointed at the lack of good Thai food in Des Plaines. We were warily excited to see a new Thai restaurant opening across from the Metra station, teasing us with the hopes of good, yummy, delicious food. We patiently waited for it to open and when it did we practically pressed our windows to the glass, drooling while they unlocked the doors. Despite my salivating hopes that it would be incredible, I was wary and thought back to the disappointments we suffered before. Now I know that worry was for naught. While the food here isn't the same as our favorite place, it is still wonderful and mouthwatering and delectable. I've tried their Pad Thai with Tofu, the Pad Kee Mow (sp), the combination appetizer (fried spring roll, crab ragoon, fried wonton with some kind of curry filling and potstickers), flaming beef, chicken satay, panag curry, and spring rolls. We eat here almost weekly and I often grab a to-go order to bring to one of my night art classes. The owner is wonderful and very sweet. She loves to talk about her homeland and about all of the ingredients she brings from there. The place itself is really quaint. It's not large but decorated simply and clean. Oh and did I mention they now deliver!?!?!?! Yes, that is a choir of angels you hear singing. Definitely try this place if you're in the area. They have lunch specials as well. This building used to house a Chinese place, and not a good one. Now that it is Thai Square; yippee that I have a good Thai restaurant in my neighborhood! After two dining experiences, I can say we will keep going as long as the food quality doesn't diminish. Meals we tried: Shrimp pad thai - excellent Beef pad thai beef pad see eiw - quite good cucumber salad - not enough egg rolls -not greasy and delish Thai coffee - usual The owner ?/waitress is very pleasant and accomodating and the decor is nice. They offer take out, but this is a sit down restaurant foremost. We stopped in again about a week after our first experience and saw that we were not the only repeat customers. Reasonable prices. One day I had delivered sweet and sour chicken and the beef fried rice. I found that the s and s chicken was sub par. I did enjoy the beef fried rice tho. Flavorless food. Poor service. Waitresses stand around chatting instead of filling waters or clearing plates or checking on customers. Our table still had dirty dishes on it when we left. We had to get up and ask for our check. Chicken in the dishes appeared to have been boiled earlier in the day then added to previously cooked vegetables and then some sauce dumped on top. It's clear the food is not freshly prepared. They didn't even bother to toss the sauce in with the food. Chicken and vegetables were not seasoned at all and sauces were bland bland bland. Really really great Thai food. Defintely the best in the area, but you have to eat in the restaurant. And why wouldn't you? It has a nice fresh atmosphere and efficient friendly service. Over the years I have occasionally ordered to-go, though not in awhile. And I've been underwhelmed by their pad thai at Taste of Des Plaines which had way too much soy sauce. However, dining-in was a welcome surprise. On my recent visit, my husband and I shared an order of spring rolls that were beautiful and so fresh and yummy. Tasted like they were pulled fresh from the garden. Great peanut sauce too. The best I've ever had. Really, the best. Loved them. I also enjoyed my pad see eiuw. This slightly sweet noodle dish complimented perfectly with my husband's order of the nicely spicey shrimp dish I've forgotten the name of. Truly a perfect Thai meal in downtown Des Plaines. Best Thai place in the burbs. When I lived in Des Plaines, I ordered takeout from here at least once a week. I never shied away from my standard chicken pad thai and chicken satay because they are just that good. I heart the mini cucumber salad that comes with the chicken satay. I love the way they cut the edges of the cucumbers and the dressing is unexpected and light. I just wish the portion was bigger! That satay is great as well. Perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken on a skewer and bomba$$ peanut sauce. Again, only complaint is that the dipping portion is too small so I usually end up just slathering the sauce on the chicken with a knife (or my finger...). The chicken pad thai is only $8 a serving. Seriously. That's it. And it is enough for 2-3 meals. I consider this dish an investment for that reason. Bonus: this stuff makes for great cold morning after leftovers. Or maybe I'm weird and just love eating cold leftovers. I've never eaten in, but it looks like a nice place for a quiet BYOB meal where you can catch up with friends. I've also noticed they have an area of items that will keep kids occupied during their meal. Super friendly cashier/staff. My takeout orders are always ready within 10 minutes of ordering. A solid Thai joint in Des Plaines. Is it spectacular and something to go out of your way for? No, but if your near the area and have a hankering for Thai or looking for something new than this place should do the trick. I've gotten food from here a couple of times now and each time everything has been solidly good, nothing to write home about but definetly satisfying. Came here last night for a quick bite to eat. Strangely, the restaurant smelled a bit like a fish tank, although I did not notice any fish tanks around. I ordered panang curry, which is my standard Thai dish. I asked for vegetables only, but received chicken instead, so it is a good thing I am not a strict vegetarian. Very few vegetables were in the bowl, and no tofu at all, which made me realize just how important the tofu is to this dish, as it is necessary to soak up the juices for consumption in a solid form. My husband got some orange chicken and crab rangoon. Both were pretty good, although the crab rangoon "shell" was different from the norm, more like a very smooth fried wonton. My brother-in-law got the pad thai, which I didn't try, but he ate it all so it must have been okay. Overall, this was not my favorite Thai food experience. read more

Conveniently located right across the Des Plaines Public Library where i was studying for an exam. Got hungry so decided to check out this place on my way home. Ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Wonton Soup. It was alright. Nothing special about their Pad Thai except they serve a lot! Nothing wrong with that, now! The place is very neat and clean, friendly cashier. Parking can be a b!tch though because it's in a side street (only 4 available parking space there because it's close to the bus station) So that can be a challenge. For a better tasting Pad Thai dish, i highly recommend Lai Thai in Morton Grove or Siam's House in Niles (Milwaukee Ave.) Pad Thai Restaurant in Mount Prospect (S. Elmhurst Avenue) serves a delicious Pad Thai dish as well. read more

Haven't found a good Thai Place in the Rosemont area where I work and this place isn't that far away, just about a 10 minute drive to downtown Des Plaines. Easy to Find Parking, Free at that! They have great lunch specials that come with an Egg Roll, very light crispy and delicous. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai Spicy and it was hot and full of flavor and fresh! I dined with my sister and she ordered the brown rice, fried tofu and peanut sauce. She loved it! Service is ok, nothing special, but nothing bad. Can't complain. We will be back! read more

My kind of place. Why? First of all NO MSG! Good fresh food, Good Service. I like coming here between lunch and diner. Des Plaines train station directly across the street. Nice train ride from Chicago or if you live in Chicago. Spring rolls with peanut sauce with fresh jalapeños, Chicken Satay awesome. Try the spicy Chicken soup with basil cilantro and dumplings its my favorite. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. Food is fast, delicious, and you can tell it's made by people who know what they're doing. If you get a lunch special, you get more than enough food plus two egg rolls and oranges all for $7.95! Food has no business being that good and affordable. I've never had something here that me or my family didn't like, and I would be greatly suspicious of reviews under 3 stars unless we've got a Michelin chef rating this place or someone who might have lost their senses during COVID, because this is a hidden gem. Average at best. Employees are always very nice, which is good. They have most typical Thai standards (pad thai, pad si ew, etc) No massaman curry is a disappointment. The pad thai, which any Thai restaurant worth anything should be able to pull off quite easily, left MUCH to be desired. VERY VERY oily/greasy. I understand Pad thai is NOT a healthy dish, & DOES use a decent amount of oil- but not to the point it's basically sitting in oil. The chicken satay is pretty good-but its basically grilled chicken w peanut sauce. not too rough.. also tried a few of their curries on offer. Decent, but i wouldnt say "really good". Altogether- an ok place if u are stuck in area..and reallllllly crave thai. There are much better options fairly close in the area by a quick drive however. read more

The environment was very nice and peaceful, the service was excellent and the food was very tasty. I had the drunken noodles, my husband had the penang curry and both were delicious!
