I'm used to eating at the Thai Spice locations in Houston, but I was delighted to see they also have a location here in Austin. The taste profile is pretty different, but I appreciate the quality of food they have to offer. The menu is a little overpriced, however the freshness justifies the prices. It makes 0 sense why this place has the rating it does. This is my favorite Thai restaurant. To be fair, it was the first Thai spot I ever tried. It has a special place in my heart- have been coming here for like 15 years now. That being said I have eaten at some of the most highly rated Thai restaurants across the country and can confidently say I leave this place as satisfied as anywhere. Consistent, traditional Thai with enough unique components that make it irreplaceable. I bought a tray of 500 spring rolls for my wedding it's that good. The food here is excellent. However, I was very disappointed with the online pickup ordering experience. I had entered the order, all ny pertinent information and my CC info and pressed enter to place my order and it wouldn't go through. It rejected it every time I tried to send the order. When I checked the totals, the tip amount was at zero. Which was perfect. I usually tip in cash for pickup orders. After a while, the app finally flashed a message stating that it would not place the order until I specifically either hit a preset tip amount or went into 'custom' tip and manually enter a tip amount. I usually tip in cash for pickup, so this was frustrating, a waste of time, and actually pretty presumptuous since not everyone tips on pick up orders. Again, great food, but the app could use more...flexibility. read more

I ordered summer rolls (they call it something else but they're summer rolls) and larb. Both were terrible. The larb was overly sweet and the summer rolls were tasteless. I got the Pad kra Paw. It said it came with an over-easy egg? The egg was good but it wasn't over-easy. The rice tasted dry. And I ordered one of the only items with two spicy pepper icons on the whole menu and I asked to make sure it was spicy. I think it was maybe a 1/10 for spice... I wouldn't even consider it spicy. It looks better than it was--it was good but just sort of boring and bland. But beyond all that, I looked the menu up on their own website before coming in and thought to myself "the price is a bit high but oh well" but when we got in, we were given menus where everything was $2-3 higher than their online menu. My only theory is they updated their menu prices to match their artificially adjusted takeout order prices. Walking away paying $50 for a Thai tea and two standard entrees is way too much for this kind of food, especially when you're misleading customers with the prices! read more

Easily the best Thai food in Lakeway! So good, in fact, we will drive 20min from Westlake to get there because there are so few Thai restaurants around us. Our favorite dishes are the Pad See Ewe (chewy thicc noodles, lots of veggies, good amount of char) and the Tom Kha Chicken soup (perfectly creamy and tangy, I could have this everyday). We'll usually order just these two items to share or get at least one of them through the lunch specials which, btw, comes with lots of other appetizers. Such a good deal for this amount of delicious food. I'm getting hungry just typing this out! Other things we love about Thai Spice: cute outdoor seating area, friendly staff, and ample parking. Didn't provide basic things like CLEAN plates and silverware for everyone at the table and had major attitude (literally rolling eyes) when we had the nerve to ask for a fork for each patron or a plate without dried food stuck to it. Who brings 4 forks for 7 people?! The portions have gotten smaller, are more expensive, and are lacking in flavor and quality (e.g., chewy, tough meat and very little of it, more onion than noodles, etc.). Easy online ordering system with a good variety of options. Quick pick-up when I got to the restaurant, and it looked like there was a decent amount of outdoor patio seating for those who are covid cautious. I had several specifications made in the notes when ordering and they fulfilled every one, even confirming them with me when I picked it up. It was tasty flavoring across the dishes, with a blend between reusable and disposable containers. Do be careful if ordering the Jungle Curry - a 3 spice level will be more like a 6 because there is no coconut milk to soften the spices. Also, the shishito peppers will not keep well or reheat well, so be sure to eat those immediately. My only real grumble would be that the rice noodles came in a paper box without wrapping, so they stuck to the container and pulled off paper with them. Very minor thing overall, and would definitely go back there again. read more
