Being full time residents of Rancho Mirage, we want to support all of our local businesses, but the food was so bad, we were compelled to share our feedback. You will need to bring your glucose monitor after eating here because the food is so sugary disgusting. Yes, Thai food is traditionally sweet, but every dish we had was truly inedible due to the overuse of syrup and sugar. If you are a diabetic avoid at all costs. We will return to Tally Thai which is right down the street where the food is appropriately prepared and always fresh. We are sorry Thai Smile, but the food was really terrible. read more

I truly love Thai Smile but the prices are up so high.... My food was good, although the size of my appetizer seemed smaller and my chicken shrimp pad Thai only had 2 pieces of shrimp. Food was ready in a timely manner. Ambience is mellow. Just shocked that what I paid for cost almost 100 after a tip. I'm always up for good Thai food. But this isn't it. Not that it was horrible, but it's not exactly good either. I will say the Wonton soup was tasty, but it ends there. Papaya salad was lacking something. Needed more vinegar and heat perhaps? Pad see you with pork was outright bland. I mean no flavor at all. And what a small portion.... Literally half the size it should have been. I could see 2" of the platter all the way around. We usually order like this and have leftovers to take home, but not here. The kicker... after tax and tip the bill was $100 for two people. Just crazy. Go to Uncle Chai for a better meal. read more

This was my first visit to the Rancho Mirage location of Thai Smile. It has a warm and comfortable feeling. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. I was cheerfully welcomed by the hostess and immediately seated. I opted for a different beer, choosing Bavik Belgian. It was flavorful and refreshing, especially during the current heat wave. Water was also delivered in anticipation of the need for refreshment. For my dinner I selected the Honey Pork, prepared with tomatoes, mushrooms and snow peas. It had a nice flavor and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. Brown or white rice accompanies the dish. We arrived about half an hour before closing on a Friday night. Originally they told us the wait time would be 30 min so we were worried about not being able to order. The lady in the front was really nice and told us they would stay open a bit later to accommodate people since it was so busy. We were able to get seated in less than 10 minutes and received our waters quickly. Both the food and service were great! Ivan our server was great! He hooked us up with extra rice and an order of the mango sticky rice. Not pictured is the Pad See Ew noodles. They ran out of broccoli and asked if we would be okay substituting it with other vegetables which we were fine with. The end result was even better than we imagined! Our noodles came with some cabbage, baby corn, carrots, and sweet peas. I might ask for my see ew noodles this way moving forward! Would definitely come back! The Panang curry was very good, the yellow curry was also very good, unfortunately the potatoes were not fully cooked. They were very hard. Not convinced the food amount and quality are worth the high prices. Service was great. Good service, poor food, overpriced. I've eaten there and used their take out service many times over the years. In the last two years I've noticed a real decline in the quality of their takeout food. Really tasteless and very small portions of rice. I thought I would try eating in to see if that was better since I really love Thai food. We went with a group of 6 and ordered family style so we all shared several different dishes. We were all unimpressed with all the dishes. An example of the crazy pricing is Mongolian beef for $35 compared to $21 dollars on the lunch menu for the exact same dish. What Happened? I was going there for years as my go to Thai place. Sadly, I was very disappointed the food lacked the traditional wow factor I had Papaya salad and basil chicken both unremarkable. I regret ordering two extra dishes at the start of service to go as they were equally suitable for the trash when I tried them at home. $100 lunch treat totally wasted. My friends and I were craving Thai food before Coachella weekend so we decided on this on a friend's recommendation. We got the pad kee mao, pad thai (lunch special), and panang curry (lunch special). Lunch specials occur 11:30-2:30 Monday to Friday and comes with choice of soup or salad, and we opted for the soup (tom yum kai soup). The soup is mediocre at best - there was not really lemongrass flavor which is essential for tom yum so it felt more like a minestrone. Pad kee mao was solid as there is a bit of nice wok flavor. Pad thai was a bit tasteless and the noodles were red which was a bit interesting. Chicken was a bit on the drier side. It also came with spring roll (or rice, your choice) which was decent. The panang curry is good - quite flavorful and has a bit of a nice spice kick. Portions were on the smaller side which makes sense as it was a lunch special, but I would probably prefer non-lunch version for a larger portion for a bit more cost. My friends also got the Thai iced coffee which was fairly strong. Overall, service is good as water refills are frequent, but food is quite mediocre. read more

We eat a lot of Thai food, and the area has a lot of choices. For convenient takeout, we go to My Thai on Washington. When we are in the El Paseo area (or in Palm Springs), we go to Thai Smile. The service is wonderful at both Thai Smiles. Very welcoming places. We tend to always order the same things, so I can only say: Pad Thai with fried Tofu and Yellow Curry are both top notch. Masaman Curry is superb. Have also enjoyed many of the appetizers: Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay stand out here. As someone else has noted, they are very considerate with the spiciness. Thai Smiles is some seriously delicious Thai food located in El Paseo. The decor is welcoming and its a surprisingly spacious restaurant once inside with different rooms. The exterior has a couple of lovely tables overlooking the street which seems to be a hot location for people to sit and people watch. The staff here are fabulous. Super friendly and very welcoming. We had the best waitress who was informative on the menu and bubbly sweet throughout the service. They also seemed to have plenty of wait staff helping to clear tables, get you drinks, and keep a clean table for you. They have a large menu here with the classic Thai dishes and some more adventurous options. Also there were lunch specials that come with soup or salad, the entree, and rice. Overall a good value and portion sizes were perfect. As far as food goes the Tom Kha coconut broth soup was the highlight of the day. Delicious! Some of the best we've ever had. It was rich and creamy with huge portions of chicken and fresh mushrooms. This was one of the best soups I've had in a long time. Definitely order this if your a fan of Thai. This soup is a 5/5. We also ordered the yellow curry which was just okay. Maybe it's my preference by I like my curries a little on the thicker side. This one was a little more liquified but the flavor was there. More of a 3.5/5. I would gladly try a different curry next time but this one wasn't bad. The white rice was bouncy and good, the perfect little side since we weren't feeling hungry enough to order a fried rice. All in all Thai Smiles is a lovely spot to dine when your on this side of town. The food was delicious and service was exceptional. The price was also moderate for how much food we got. We left happy and full, can't wait to come back for some of the best Tom Kha Soup around. read more

I ordered a lunch special and was served rotten, moldy bean sprouts. I became sick to my stomach and called to alert the manager. I never asked for a refund, but the manager showed no remorse for serving spoiled food. She offered 50% off my next meal. However, I will never eat there again. I explained that she was focusing on the wrong issue, as I wasn't looking for a free meal. I had vomited from the food. After about five minutes of her talking, I decided to hang up the phone. She later sent a text and issued a refund. I hope they also removed the spoiled food from their kitchen. I strongly recommend that customers check the restaurant's health inspection grade before visiting. Their rating was recently lowered to a B due to multiple violations. read more

I ordered take out for my mom and I, and the baby corn in the vegetable plate and the chow mein was spoiled and it made the entire house smell bad. It was hard to eat and threw out the food as it had entirely ruined the meal. This nice quaint restaurant was our go to for Thai food after shopping. Angel Wings 10/10 ...crunchy stuffed chicken wings with an amazing cucumber tamarind sauce. Tom yum Kong- 9/10 wish the cup size was much bigger. taste is authentic tom yum you can ever get. Chicken Larb 10/10 ...they served it with cabbage (not lettuce) and the chicken was not the typical ground chicken instead it was shredded and chopped. Pad Thai 8/10 great taste but nothing to wow you. Red curry 9/10 everything seemed so fresh and not overcooked like the veggies at some restaurants. there was crunch from the vegetables in each bite. We ordered takeout, and while the curry was good and we appreciate quality Thai food after living abroad, we were taken back by the pricing -- $30 for Pad Thai with just three small shrimp is excessive (more then NY or LA), There are several great Thai options in the area at far more reasonable prices. I placed a pick up order today for lunch, I ordered 2 pad thai based on their lunch special listed online which had shown for $13.99. I was then asked if this was going to be for a lunch special or dinner special. Which I replied with lunch. I went on to ask if I would be receiving the lunch special for 13.99 because this Thai smile place has so many websites and menus with prices all over the place. The women on the phone confirmed that it would be the $13.99 special and I could pick up my food in 15 mins. I walk over to pick it up, sign for the receipt, tip and leave. On my way back to walking to work, I started to think $37.41 was kinda expensive for 2 lunch specials, mind you. This was not a full size portion. I looked at the receipt and was charged for $17.50 each pad Thai. I called back and spoke to the same woman I placed the order with and she told me that yes she did tell me that the first time about them being $13.99 but that the price online are wrong and that they recently had a price increase. So I paid $17.50 for each pad Thai, not a full serving and was basically told it is what it is since it didn't seem like there was any desire to fix. Honestly super upset with this place. This is the place if you like the flavors of Thai food without the spiciness! I love Thai food but I struggle with overly spicy food. Thai Smile brings you the flavor without having to deal with spiciness. The lunch specials are great value. However, we love some of their more "different" items like Yum Nua, a Beef Steak salad. The dressing has strong flavors of garlic, lemongrass, fish sauce, and lime juice. Another "different" selection is Larb. This is a Thai cabbage salad with your choice of ground meat. Both are refreshing selections during the desert heat. The service is always friendly and speedy. They almost pay attention too much because they want to take our plates away even when we are "taking a break" from eating. The patio dining has a great view of El Paseo and is heated. read more

The flavor in the food here was great but EVERYTHING was over cooked. The shrimp in a blanket had a rubbery texture. The sauce was too runny. My noodle dish was a soggy mess, couldn't find a single noodle in there that wasnt just mush. All the veggies were soggy. Pork didn't taste like pork anymore. It tasted like ground chicken breast boiled into a chunk then semi dehydrated... so dry... The server sort of rushed us by saying the kitchen is closing but sat a table down next to us 25 minutes after we ordered and took their order with ease after another 10 or so minutes.
