    Be Kind to Customers

YELP SHORT ANSWER: Maybe, but be aware.. over priced, rude, but food is okay. LOCATION: Shopping center strip mall location, lots of parking. FACILITY: Small but a real deal open kitchen. No, not fancy but correct for the type of business. MENU: Excellent choices. FOOD PREP: Pretty good, I have watched cook , chef, owner who has serious skills and is amazing. This is not a hidden kitchen so you order, they make, you wait even on to-go orders which I don't think they make until you show up even if prepaid. FOOD QUALITY: Very good. Not too salty. WAITSTAFF: Having been here several times, terrible and rude depending on who is helping you. I believe the owner lady is argumentative to most customers not just to me. If you order from a food app, bring your confirmation order number, phone to show your PAID order, passport, photo ID, and recommendations from 20 people to allow you to eat their food. Our last order $60 order, I ordered and paid online food app and my wife went to pick up and I texted her the conformation number but she was refused the order, part of it sitting in to-go area, with our last name on order with matching confirmation number and my phone number. Said I needed to pick up as I ordered, my wife was beside herself but called me and I told lady I ordered, my phone number... Not Okay and unnecessary irritating. OVERALL VALUE: $60 to-go orders for two, way too expensive but the food itself is above okay. It's not equitable and I don't want to feels as customer I am being pranked or in a Seinfeld episode. TIP: Be prepared to be annoyed, if you don't want to deal with it go elsewhere.

Mapo Tofu - for the price, it's delicious and generously portioned. It even comes with a side of white rice!

I haven't been to a China Jo's in years! This one is very similar to the one we used to go to when I was a kid though. It's a very small, hole-in-the-wall kind of location. They have so much to choose from, so there's something for everyone. However I saw Mapo Tofu on the menu and immediately knew I wanted to try it. The lady who took my order was very sweet, and let me know that I could have the tofu with either minced chicken or minced pork - I chose chicken. My order was ready very quickly, and I was really surprised by how large the portion was, especially considering the price! A generous portion of tofu, a side of white rice, and a bottle of water only set me back about $15. I was only able to finish half, but make bo mistake: it was pretty tasty, and I'll definitely finish it for dinner! Overall, solid spot to grab a bite. I'll definitely be coming back!

They also have a full bar now, so there are many more options for libations while you eat. We arrived right on time for our 6PM reservation and we were seated at the outdoor table we pined for. The weather and the setting definitely started this dinner with a positive outlook. We were a party of five, with three of us ordering different Taco alternatives. I requested the Shrimp, my wife asked for the Salmon and our daughter selected Filet Mignon. The flavor of all the Tacos was out of this world, as the ingredients and the sauces involved within those corn tortillas meshed together magically. I will say that paying $20 for two small tacos that weren't PACKED was a little bit of a RIP. The other two guests in our party went for two different types of Pizza. They both boxed a slice or two to take home. As sides, we had two orders of Truffle Fries and one of the Brussel Sprouts. Both were phenomenal but the veggies could have been more plentiful. To go with our dinners, my wife and I brought our own Meadowcroft GSM that generated two surprises for us. One was how great it accompanied what we ingested, the other was the $30 corkage on the bill. To round out the night out, my daughter shared a Sundae-Sundae with the other guests. Being able to get out to see new restaurants once a month is a gift, and most of what we experienced was a HUGE thumbs up. We just felt like what was provided in a casual setting was a little overpriced. This will not be on a future "to do" list.

Would rather hold out for better sushi options than settle for someplace that's just average. For context solid sushi spots in the desert are hard to come by, understandably. La Quinta actually has two of my favorites BUT they are only open for dinner hours. So I've been on the search for solid sushi spots that have lunch hours. Being that Sam's Sushi was open for lunch and has moderate reviews, thought that they were worth a try. The ambiance of the spot is basic. There was a proper sushi bar which I could appreciate and the restaurant was spacious. My biggest issues were cleanliness and freshness. The tables weren't clean enough for my preference (soy sauce containers were sticky and the plate they sit on hadn't been cleaned for a while). Also I found the temperature inside to be a little too warm, which is always a red flag to me when dealing with seafood. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 stars is the staff were friendly. Despite being busy they had me seated quickly and also food was at a good pace. One of my drinks was forgotten by the server but he was kind and apologized about it, so not a big deal. As again, they were busy. Overall the reason for the lower review is primarily for the food and quality. I ordered a $25 bento box (not quite trusting or committing to larger sushi rolls) and was still underwhelmed. The best part of my meal was the miso soup and California roll. The California roll was average but tasty. However, the other two box options were meh. The mixed tempura had hits and misses. Tempura shrimp was decent. However, the veggies were too thick - so the batter to veggie ratio was off. Still edible though. The bummer with the bento box was the sushi and salad. Salad had barely any dressing, and not the tasty ginger or sesame dressing that most have - the dressing was so minimal I couldn't even tell you what it was. Also the sushi just didn't taste fresh. The ebi was fine but usually I wouldn't choose this for sushi. The salmon was edible but not super fresh and the yellowtail was stringy and I couldn't eat it. For $25 the plate looked appealing but lacked good flavor/execution. Overall, the place was busy so I'm hopeful they have a good following with locals and I saw a lot of professionals here for a quick lunch break. I just think there are substantially better sushi spots in the desert...I'm spoiled and have lots of good sushi spots at home that this spot wouldn't be one I'd be eager to come to again soon.

But the food makes up for it. The pineapple fried rice is as good as it gets. Best of all, it's served inside a carved-out halved real pineapple -- great for presentation and flavor! The sweet and sour pork is prepared perfectly and the sauce is just how it should be. Another hit is the string bean chicken. The beans are perfectly cooked -- not mushy but crispy and the sauce if flavorful. The chicken is cooked to perfection. We have more to explore here and will keep coming back. Only downside foodwise was a ho-hum wonton soup. We ordered a full bowl and sadly only got two mediocre wontons. Only two! And the broth is overloaded with cabbage. If it were "cabbage soup" it would've made sense. The other dishes still make up for it and earn this gem a full five stars.
