I had a great experience. I don't get massages often, but I had been traveling and needed a massage to get the kinks out of my back. Thai Senses was just down the street from my hotel so it was very convenient. I was able to book a massage online through their website. I don't know all the various styles of massage, but the descriptions on the website steered me to a Thai-Yoga combo massage. Booking was easy, but right after they called and asked if I could move up a half hour earlier to accommodate their schedule. Wasn't a problem for me so I agreed. The spa is in a little high-rise building sandwiched between taller ones. I walked right past it, but then I saw the address numbers and walked back, counting down, and there it was. Inside was a little hallway with a security guard in front of the elevator (made me think of the Men In Black movie!). He was friendly, asked if I had an appointment, and then made me sign an In/Out list with my name and where I was going. Not a problem, I understand the need for security. When I got up to the spa, they were already expecting me. The staff were professional and courteous. I left my shoes at the door and was shown into a room right away. The room was warm with quiet music playing. It was clean and smelled nice. The therapist did a wonderful job with my massage. Ask for Mona - she was fantastic! It was over all too soon - I got an hour, but I should have scheduled a longer one. I can't speak to how their prices compare with other spas, but I was very satisfied with what I paid for the massage I got. They hit me up for the gratuity on my way out the door. I rode the elevator back down, signed out of the guard's log book, and I was back out on the street. A very positive experience overall. I normally don't leave reviews, but this place absolutely earned one. I asked for a deep tissue massage and somehow ended up paying for someone to spread oil on me like I was a rotisserie chicken. Zero pressure. NONE. I've had firmer handshakes. If I wanted oil gently rubbed all over my body, I could've stayed home and done it myself for free. A real massage should leave you feeling refreshed, loose, maybe even a little dizzy when you stand up. Instead, I got up feeling exactly the same, except irritated and robbed. Calling this "deep tissue" is laughable. It was nothing but soft, pointless rubbing the entire time. So if you enjoy actual pressure, strong hands, or getting your money's worth do not come here. My massage was not a Thai Massage it was more of a bad Chinese/Swedish massage...I ordered a Thai Massage and have had great Therapeutic Yoga like acupressure Thai massage from actual Thai massage therapists elsewhere. This was not anything like that. In fact when she started with my feet I was very skeptical and then she used elbows and knees on my back? I asked her if she knew what Thai massage was and she said a massage with no oil and cover over body....i told her I needed more stretching and to use acupressure. She tried a few stretches but only for a few seconds and didn't use acupressure. She don't have me sit-up and get in any yoga type poses. I've had about a hundred massages and this was a 5 out of 10 I felt bad as I know she is trying her best and needs to make a living so I still tipped her $20 but honestly this was maybe a $40 massage plus $20 tip not $160! Just a waste of time.....I also paid before the massage...which I've never done? P.S. I was told it would be $130 for a $10 cash discount...they didn't give me my $10 change. read more

On a recent trip to New York City, we found Thai Senses Spa via Yelp and took a leap of faith and we were rewarded with a great massage. The reviews were all accurate. Unlike many Thai massage places in California, Thai Senses Spa was located in a high rise building, therefore a little unusual upon initial review, but once we got inside it matched up to all previous reviewers reviews of this spa. The space was limited and minimalist with only two rooms available. We had to put down a deposit for our reservation, which was odd but I assumed normal because of their space limitations. My partner and I were both in the same room and both our therapists were very proficient in their technique, which was a combination of Thai and Swedish. Overall, I knocked one star off because of the cost, but otherwise wouldn't hesitate to visit again on our next trip to the city. read more

I arranged for a surprise massage for my girlfriend. Pim only takes Venmo or Cash (she does not take credit cards which is illegal) and operates out of an apartment building, not an actual studio. I paid for the massage via Venmo, my girlfriend said that she had a very pleasant experience. She said the ambience was nice, but she was very surprised and felt uncomfortable at the end. As she was leaving, Pim stood between her and the door and said "your boyfriend didn't tip me." What an extremely unprofessional thing to do. I did tip her ($27%), but the fact that she told this to a customer and blocked her exit from a private apartment is very threatening. Especially since this was a surprise gift for my girlfriend. I was able to book a 30 min massage focusing on back and neck with Pim on the same day, and extended it to 45 min cause it felt really relaxing and vitalizing. The location is very convenient, right next to the blue subway line or a few steps from Times Square. I have been to Thai Senses a few times and am planning to go every 1-1.5 weeks now as part of taking better care of myself giving my work situation. If your goal is to actually get rid of knots and take care of your body skip the high end spas attempts at deep tissue and go here. I hadn't experienced Thai massage before and as I have a few health issues (including anxiety which makes things like this a bit difficult) I was a little nervous. A heads up for my Anxiety experiencing fam out there, this studio is within a building, so you do need to go into a somewhat non-descript entrance hallway & sign in at the desk. The person working on this desk was very friendly & personable however, and I could see sign ins before mine for Thai Massage so that was comforting. You then go into an elevator to the floor. Get out and make a left, and the studio is there, very easy to find. The entrance is lovely, cosy and relaxing, and the person who greeted me was very polite and hospitable. I filled out my form where you can specify any ailments as well as pressure preference, and was offered water. There is also a bathroom there if you need it. I was given ample time once in the room to get changed and put my things neatly away and get up onto the bed, so no need to worry about that. I was then treated by Rose, who was so wonderful. She introduced herself and asked for pressure preferences, which she did a few more points throughout the massage, so again there's opportunity to speak up if you couldn't/didn't the first time. The massage itself was near perfect, a mixture for me of relaxing but feeling like it's doing good, a little tiny discomfort in places that are tender before the sweet release of a wonderfully skilled individual. By the end I truly felt like all areas of my body had been looked after and renewed, which is an incredibly rare feeling for me. I had pre-paid but tipped after (which you can do with cash or card/apple pay) 20%. Obviously this is up to you, but I felt happy to do so (along with 20% feeling fair for what I have experienced, it also is a small price to pay for my not to leave immediately feeling anxious!). I didn't feel rushed after my massage either which was lovely. When I came out everyone continued to be courteous and polite. All in all it was a 5/5 for me, and very easy to navigate despite my anxiety. The only thing I would add is if you have long hair bring a hair tie. I had booked this last minute so didn't think about it & it felt as though they used a rubber/elastic band to tie up my hair. Not painful as they were gentle, I just have terribly damaged hair that breaks easily so I know it will have done a little damage (but totally on me and not them, just good to know for other's in the same situation). read more

Pim is incredible. I got the 90 min Thai/deep tissue combo. It was my first Thai massage and her kindness completely put me at ease. She is strong, and continued to check in with pressure level. I hold stress in neck and shoulders, and she spent extra time going over knots that I didn't even know where there. Definitely going back!! She mentioned how nice it is to have a female client. Even with language stating Non-sexual Service, a lot of men still ask for it. It kills me that she has to deal with this or even wonder about safety at workplace trying to make a living. I am visiting from another state and was ill prepared for the amount of walking required in NYC. I had a few hours to spare today and messaged the owner at Thai Senses Bodywork. I heard back within 10 minutes and scheduled a 60 minute Thai combination massage. Boy was I happy that I did! My masseuse was the most knowledgeable and experienced masseuse I ever had! As time was ending, she asked if I wanted to extend my massage to a 90 minute and I did. I felt the pain disappearing. I told her my feet, legs, back and neck were hurting and I can tell you, I am pain free! She works your muscles and stretches you in ways to help you relax! I'm not from around here but would make my way back to this area for a massage. Highly recommend! If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. $110 for an hour and $160 for 90 minutes + tip.
