I love Thai food for the freshness and spice. This place was recommended to us. I was very disappointed. Seating and the lines were a nightmare. We got wontons as an appetizer. They were cold and tasted like they were fried in month old grease. I got the Pad See Ew as my entrée. Out of the variety of Thai food in Lubbock, I have to say Thai Pepper is the lowest on my list. While the restaurant itself if plenty popular and has decent taste, it lacks the "homey" atmosphere and food taste. The staff is usually very busy and doesn't care much for each client as they should. Nevertheless, the food itself is OK. I find that Thai Thai, Thai Kitchen, and Bangkok Thai all have the advantage in both flavor, price, and service. I think more people would benefit from checking those out, especially during those busy Fridays when Thai Pepper has a wait. Overall, their food is tasty but more sugary than I'd like. Some of the noodle and sauce combinations are strange to me, that is if you try to go beyond the normal Pad Thai suggestions. I'm happy to see that Thai cuisine is getting popular because of this restaurant, but I think it's good to branch out. read more

Came here for dinner during the week after almost 4 years! I'm not a big fan of the Thai food in Lubbock but decided to give it another try. I got the special for the day which was a cashew chicken dish. I also got the pork dumplings since you have to spend $10 to pay with a card. The started us out with fried pork chips and sweet chili sauce. Our food came out pretty quick, but the dumplings took a bit longer since they accidentally gave it to another table. I thought the cashew chicken was great and had really good flavor. The dumplings were alright, I wasn't a fan of the sauce it came with. Overall, I actually enjoyed the food here and will definitely keep Thai Pepper in mind next time I'm craving Thai food. read more

NOT THE SAME OWNERS OR FOOD! What a disappointment. I was in town and was looking forward to an excellent Thai feast. I knew things had changed as soon as I walked in. The dining room had a fresh new look but you now have to order at the register. The gentleman there was far from warm and pleasant. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when the food began to arrive. The filling in the cheese wontons was super sweet and they were overcooked triangles instead of wontons. I had to ask for more coconut milk for my yellow chicken curry and my sister's Pad Thai was nothing like the original owner's dish. I rated it 3 stars because that's what I would have given a new unknown place because it was just "okay". I did learn that the original owners opened a new place in south Lubbock by Lil' Woodrow's. Thai Pepper was recommended by friends as a great place for Asian Cuisine. When we pulled up the place was just an unassuming shop in the back side of a tired looking strip mall. To be honest I wasn't expecting much... but I was immediately welcomed and seated by an attentive staff who took time to explain the menu and made suggestions. There were three in our party and everyone of us loved our meals. Honestly it's a place you could eat at a few times a week. The food is fresh, the restaurant and prep and counter areas appear clean and the fellow guests were happy as well as the abundant carry-out customers. Tried to order food here online. When I arrived at the restaurant after waiting in line the guy continued to argue with me that they hadn't received an order with my name or with the food we ordered. I understand that it could happen but when I asked him if he could take my order since he clearly didn't have anything in his system, he again repeated that he didn't have my order and that I would need to order again. I replied with "can you take my order since I'm here and have stood in line and clearly you don't have my orders so I can tell you what we want", and his response to me was that "I could go somewhere else if I was going to have an attitude." And that's EXACTLY WHAT I DID. I will NOT give money to an establishment that says I had an attitude because I simply asked him to take my order since I had already waited the 30 min since placing my order online and drove all the way across town and he continued to argue with me that an order was not placed. Thai Pepper is one of my favorite places to go out to eat in Lubbock. While the pad thai is great, there are plenty of great dishes on the menu. My favorite is the yellow curry with shrimp & pineapples. The tom kha gai (chicken coconut soup) is also very good. Like all thai food, the flavor of the dishes here change dramatically depending on the spice level you choose. I like spicy food so I usually order that and I love it. However, my wife orders her food mild or medium and I am underwhelmed with the taste. My point is that you should give this place another try if you don't like it and try another heat level. read more

It was 11:39am before our food finally arrived. Even our appetizer came out at the same time. I ordered Massaman Curry and I ordered it "Hot". Apparently this means mild at Thai Pepper. My curry was almost sweet. totally disappointing. Also, in the picture, there are onions and potatoes in the curry. My curry was soup and beef. That's it. Watery, sweet, curry with strips of beef. My brother ordered his Pad Thai "Hot" as well and it wasn't. it was bland and also kind of sweet. His wife ordered a vegetarian curry. Not only did the curry come out with meat, it has ZERO vegetables! She sent it back and had to wait another 10 minutes. Overall a terrible experience. I should have known better being in Lubbock and expecting decent Thai food. Yet, this place remains packed day in and day out. Packed with white people. They either don't know any better, don't care, or are delusional. I complained to our cashier, who simply said "I'm sorry" as she handed me back my change. Tried the Pangang Curry - absolutely incredible. I ordered the medium-spice. It was. There was not mildness. I took about 60 minutes to finish, the flavor is just that delicious... I would go so far as to say the taste was emboldening. This is my 1st Thai experience, but I'm looking forward to sampling the remaining menu items. I'm leave at 4 because I'd not wish to get my hopes up in a sense of other items also being just as enjoyable but the location being more busy. I didn't think I would find decent Thai food in Lubbock, so when I ate at Thai Pepper I was pleasantly surprised by their green curry. I dined in with my friend, and although we waited a little longer than expected for our food I enjoyed every bite. The service was a little rushed because I think they expect patrons to know what they're getting without a menu, but everyone was kind and efficient. I opted for their green curry with tofu and my friend got their pad thai. We took our leftovers home because they serve quite generous portions. I'm a delivery driver with favor and not EVER have I been able to get through to them on the phone. It either just rings for minutes or has a busy signal. I'm sure this is a good sign the food is delicious, but as a delivery driver I am now required to go wait in the long line of people waiting to get in to place the order on behalf of the customer, who had already had to wait 10-15 minutes for me to drive there. At least that's what I was told the first time, now I just decline the orders as soon as Thai Pepper pops up. I'm not waiting 30 mins in line to place an order as a delivery driver only to get paid $4 for it because customers won't tip more than the $2 minimum after being upset with the wait time, blaming me for it since I'm the one they deal with. We got mild and it was still relatively spicer than expected. The chicken fried rice was good, duh. It takes a lot to mess that one up. Overal, good but wish there was more chicken in the chicken fried rice and the pad see eiw Bc it is such a busy place... they should really invest in having another server.
