(That's what I got) they all taste like home in Thailand with fresh ingredients. I don't get a lot of Thai food around Ohio, only some place that I go and Thai Paradise (in Athens) is one of those places. If last time you were here you love the food, come back! Thai Paradise/Siam Thai has gone through some changes in the past few years. Thankfully, though, their food has remained consistently delicious. There were some changes to the menu but they haven't been all that noticeable. There is a nice ambiance to the place, with quiet music playing and friendly staff. I do wish that the management would hire more servers, though. I've been in the restaurant when it was at capacity and there was only one person doing the serving, hosting and greeting. It's not a pleasant sight. read more

We love Thai food, and were pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Athens instead of in Columbus. We typically will drop in here almost every time we come to visit our OU Bobcat. Tangy beef. That was my lasting feeling upon leaving. Admittedly the portion sizes are very good. However, the food just didn't deliver overall. The garlic pepper calamari were delicious...until you got sick of how sweet (or sometimes salty) some bites could be. Some bites had that perfect sweet, crunchy, and spicy surprise, but only some, and frankly not enough. My friend ordered the Himmapan Chicken with extra spice. It was a little too salty for her and she gave it just a 3 out of 5. I had the Drunken Noodle, which is my go to when I enjoy Thai, and this paled in comparison to previous delights. The flavors were somewhat there but the noodles weren't properly cut and a bit too chewy. The beef was tangy, which was my biggest disappointment. I informed my server and she responded with basically a noncommittal shrug and "never heard that before". That was off putting, especially when my friend tried the beef and agreed that the taste is off. There was no offering for something different or appreciation that I wasn't satisfied with my meal. So I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the beef and meh customer service. Highly doubt I'll be back. read more

I had the most perfect lunch today at Thai Paradise. We sat on their comfortable patio on a breezy, sunny day. Each of us ordered our favorite dish (mine was yum talay) and all were delicious. As good as the food was, the service from Rasamy was even better. She is knowledgeable, pleasant, and VERY funny. She has a gift of reading her audience and accurately judging how hard to tease. It was a very hard on Thai food lovers last year when they had to be closed through OU graduation because of structural problems in the building next door; days like today make me especially glad that they were able to hold on! Four is pretty hot. Five is not for the gringos. Very friendly folks. Love the new patio option. Update July 2018: really pleased they reopened after fire in next door building. And I'm sure it was expensive to be closed for so long through no fault of their own. BUT I gotta say the $3.00 price hike on a $9.00 dish that came with soup or salad and now no longer does on weekends will mean I come less often. Took family out to dinner to quickly put something in our stomachs to allow us to continue with outdoor activities. What a surprise to find this place, which delivered some great Thai cuisine! My Pad Thai was delivered with the spicy kick that I requested, and the noodles and protein (Chicken) did not disappoint. A nice lime wedge came with it to further brighten up the flavors. The Sesame Chicken and Ginger Chicken were also ordered and quickly finished. As an OU alumni, my goto place was always Miller's Chicken, but i think my favorite has just changed! read more

Thai Paradise has been my home away from home as I've completed my PhD at OU. I have gone to TP at least once a week for the last 2.5 years, and as a New Yorker that has tried cuisine from all over the world, I can confidently say Thai Paradise is the best Thai I've ever had/is my absolute favorite restaurant. The staff at TP ALWAYS treats me like family, knows my orders by heart, and checks in to see how I am doing in my doctoral program. One of my favorite memories since moving to Ohio was the manager, Rasamy, giving me a Thai tea on the house to "give [me] a little extra motivation" as I prepared for my comprehensive exams. Even on days like today where the manager was essentially harassed by a group of rude customers that were blocking the fire exit, she made sure to come over and talk to me about my day. Rasamy, Linh, Devon, and Evan (among other staff members) are always quick to put a smile on the faces of myself and my boyfriend every time we come in. When I move away from Athens at the end of this school year, I will compare every Thai restaurant to this one. read more

It used to be good. We've spent a fortune around town to keep our favorite restaurants open through the pandemic - but Paradise will no longer be on that list. Ordered for Mother's Day tonight. I picked it up myself. They weren't that busy, there was nobody waiting for food, and only 1 other order on the table, but they forgot part of our (large) order. When I called to at least get a refund for the food that they didn't send, they passed me from person to person for a full 5 minutes, each one asking for a different detail about my order (I'd only been gone 10 minutes). Finally I told them that my food (what little there was) was getting cold and my family was waiting for me and I hung up. Then everything was much more bland than usual, even the things we requested extra spicy. Not even an apology on the phone for the screw-up. It's a shame, I've eaten here 25 times, but tonight was the last time. read more

I'm happy to say that Thai Paradise has only improved since it's been open. The service is less shaky and now they have added wine, beer, and sake to their menu. I've dined here three times total. I haven't tried the Chinese entrees, but some of my dining companions have. Just based on presentation, the dishes looked to be well above typical greasy take out. I might try Hunan Chicken (my go to Chinese order) just for comparison. I've tried the following dishes: green curry with chicken and shrimp, mussaman curry with chicken, pad prik khing with pork, chicken satay, and crab rangoon. I was surprised by how fresh the shrimp in the curry tasted; usually I balk at ordering seafood in Appalachia, but their shrimp did not disappoint. Even the crab rangoon had more crab meat than the typical "all cream cheese" offerings from local take out places. I really love the curry here, and it's a bargain at around 10 dollars an entree, considering I always leave with about half of my food to eat the next day. I do think they skimp a bit on the protein, but I love vegetables so that doesn't bother me. I'm really glad that we have this restaurant in town, especially since Fluff isn't serving dinner anymore. And with so many Chinese dishes on the menu, those who might not want to brave the spicier Thai offerings should still be able to find something pleasing. Labor Day weekend and my husband and I completed a 5-mile hike in Hocking Hills. We thought it would be nice to check out Athens Ohio and give me the grand tour of the cute college town. We happen to see a Thai Restaurant which is always appetizing to our palate. We ordered veggie wraps which is always a great starter. I dislike plum sauce as any dipping sauce... I love the presentation. It was wrapped so beautifully! We ordered steak salad and drunken noodles. Very tasty and will be coming back if we are near the area again!! I like how the restaurant was decorated inside and out. Everyone there was very nice and helpful. My only negative was that they did not serve beer. I spent years in Thailand and also eating Thai food in America so I know the typical "American"-leaning Thai food here in the U.S. I regret to inform the chef that this is the most flavorless Thai food I've ever had in my lifetime. The Thai tea was diluted and not sweet and had a strange after taste. It tasted like it might be the canned Thai tea and not the homemade sweet tea that most are used to. The pad Thai has no color or flavor of Pad Thai and the Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mao) are equally flavorless. Typically Thai food is known for its mouth watering flavor explosions! Chef think garlic, Thai basil, Thai chili!Also charging $2.00 extra for a protein that should be already coming with your meal is OUTRAGEOUS.
