I'm a fan of their sister restaurant Chiangmai in Conshy and was in the area so decided to check out Thai Orchid for lunch on a Saturday. Would've loved some kind of lunch special but it was a Saturday, so I wasn't surprised that nothing was available. We ordered the Evil Jungle Princess with Beef... It's something I've always enjoyed at Chiangmai and it was consistent and yummy. Some of the veggies were a little more al dente than I cared for, but I'd rather that than mushy. We also got the Chu Chee Duck which was delicious! I would've liked more of the tasty red curry sauce though. Overall a great dining experience. The food came out quickly and hot, the service was friendly, and the restaurant has cool decor including a giant tropical plant I spent some time admiring. read more

Very nice little restaurant on DeKalb Pike. We went with a group of seven and I think it's safe to say that everyone enjoyed their meal. It is beautifully decorated and the service was excellent. We had a couple of noodle dishes and several curries and they were freshly out of the wok and delicious. The staff was a little concerned about a group of older white people ordering food with a higher spice level, but I thought the level of spice was perfect. Having been to other Thai restaurants in the area, I would definitely return to Thai Orchid, which has great food, a comfortable environment and prompt, professional service. read more

I was craving Thai food when I first got to the Blue Bell area, so I decided to check out Thai Orchid. I'm not sure if this is a chain restaurant or not, but the food was pretty good. I started off with the Tom Yum soup, which had a really nice lemongrass flavor to it and a good spice level. It was definitely a good way to start the meal! Then I decided to order the evil Jungle Princess as my main dish. I have never seen this offered at a Thai restaurant before and it was one of the restaurants specialty items, so I knew I had to give it a go. I love spicy food, and this was one of the spicier menu items as well. The thick noodles had a good chew to them, and there was so much meat and vegetables that were cooked with it, which made the dish delicious. For once I am so so happy a plan broke through. A friend and I stopped at Pho Thai Nam only to find out they were closed for an extended July fourth holiday. No worries. That's what google is for. And lucky for us, Thai Orchid was the next closest Thai spot. It's pretty small inside, nothing super glamorous, but we were welcomed and seated quickly. I was planning on going for drunken noodles (my favorite form of noodley goodness) but another wide rice noodled dish caught my eye, and I chose the Evil jungle instead. My. Lawd. Thank the heavens that I did. A light curry version of drunken noodles if you will. It was incredible. The noodles perfectly chewy, the veggies still with a satisfying crisp, AND the combo of chicken and shrimp cooked perfectly. I don't think I'll ever go back. Also their Thai iced tea, which our waiter generously split into two smaller glasses, was perfectly balanced with the condensed milk (sometimes there's just too much of it). My friends tofu jungle version also turned out delicious. However she felt it was a little too salty. The chunks of tofu are huge! but I do prefer mine a smidge firmer. Both plates were huge as well, I took about half of mine home for dinner later. I only docked a star because our young waiter kind of seemed annoyed with our presence haha. Wasn't exactly rude, just came off as "whatever" about everything. Maybe a smile would've helped. Anyways. Definitely recommend. Especially if you're just going to consider takeout. read more

I visited once for a business lunch and was really impressed by the service. We went on a Friday during their lunch rush; most of the tables were occupied by the time we got there around 12-12:30. For that reason, our food took a little while. The majority of my table received their entrees and soups at the same time, but a few people had to wait an extra 5-10 minutes for theirs. I got a lunch special which comes with your choice of an entree, salad, and soup or dumplings. Their vegetable tofu soup might look a little basic, but it's delicious. It has just the right amount of fresh ginger to contrast its light salty-savoriness. The salad was tasty, and I loved my "spicy" drunken noodles that weren't too spicy (but also not for the faint of heart). Service was attentive and quick to get us anything we needed. read more

Thai Orchid is our usual go to place to satisfy our Thai cravings. The restaurant is full of artistic pieces and elements from Southeast Asia which creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The servers here are always polite and friendly. Now let's talk food. On our first visit, we ordered Tutti Frutti Duck, Combination Dumplings and Jungle 2 Jungle. My boyfriend loved 'loved' the Tutti Frutti duck. The dish is a crispy boneless duck served with fresh fruits and a raspberry sauce. The flavors of this dish balance each other out very well. We find that the duck is overcooked on some days but overall, it's an interesting take and a delicious dish. The Combination Dumplings included two Buddha Delights ( Vegetarian dumplings), two Tulip Dumplings ( combination of steamed chicken and shrimp) and two Thai dumplings (combination of pork and bamboo shoots). The dumplings were scrumptious. We highly recommend ordering this combination. The Jungle2Jungle is a spicy mixed vegetable medley that I would highly recommend to all the vegetarians. It was simply delicious and the presentation was spot on! On our subsequent visits we have ordered Vegetable Drunken Noodles, Vegetable Mussaman Curry, Buddha Dumplings, Beef Panang Curry and Chicken Satay. Unfortunately, the Drunken Noodles were lacklustre, flavorless and a soggy mess. We would avoid this dish here. On the other hand the Mussaman Curry was nice and creamy, the Panang Curry was packed with flavors, the Chicken Satay and the Buddha Dumplings were excellent. Although, Panang Curry wasn't on their menu, the chefs still made the dish for us (Bonus points for such excellent customer service). We were a little dissapointed with the portion size but overall we enjoyed the food. If you are in the mood for some Thai, you should definitely stop by here! read more

Pleasantly surprised! Ordered Evil Jungle Princess and added chicken. Also got a side of veggie spring rolls. Jungle princess was delightful! Good amount of spice, and the sauce was so good! Meal was piping hot, veggies were fresh and about halfway through I added the rice into it to soak up remaining sauce. Spring rolls didn't disappoint either. We ordered the drunken noodle, coconut soup, and Thai basil. Further, while being refunded, we were lectured about how she doesn't usually give refunds and how she's never had a complaint. Edit: After posting this review, I received two messages from people who work there more or less calling me a liar. The coconut soup was watery and the drunken noodles were flavorless. I have no reason to lie. It even appears that staff left a 5 star review and had their workers like the post. Thai Orchid of Blue Bell is a beautifully appointed Siamese restaurant on DeKalb Pike in the wonderfully named town of Blue Bell, PA. It is one of those places where the environment is so rich in southeast Asian colors, textures and artistry, that it is possible to eat the atmosphere. From woodcuts to tapestry the space is relaxed and mellow enough to have you believing you've stepped into a palace in Chiangmai. I was there for late lunch after a meeting in Norristown. The shop sits in a strip center, the last door on the far right. Don't be put off by that or you'll miss all the magic. There was only one other customer dining when I arrived and was taken to a table on a raised platform that held most of the tables. The menu was full of Thai delights, and lunch combo specials that included soup, appetizer and main entree, for around $10 and change. That seemed the way to go to sample a few things and get more bang for the buck. I went with the Thai Ravioli Soup (wonton), Veggie Roll and Drunken Noodles. Believe me, it was a huge amount of food. The soup was vegetable based broth with fancy goldfish wonton filled with ground shrimp and chicken. It had a mild sesame oil flavor and tasted fresh and pleasing. The roll was deep fried with a filling of mixed vegetables, glass noodles and a small dish of sweet & sour dipping sauce. It was good, but a tad over fried. The drunken noodle was a large plate full of medium width noodles (not jumbo), loaded with chunky onions, bell peppers, green beans, fresh basil, thin sliced beef and moderately hot Thai spices. I asked for it to be very chilified, but it was still pretty tame. It seems that regardless of what you ask for on the heat scale, it is interpreted as only moderately spicy. How you actually get the "Very spicy yet Bearable," fire level is beyond me. Here, it cost them a star for failing to honor my clear direction. Aside from the width of the noodles and the lack of burn, this was a very satisfying meal, and enough to keep me sated for the rest of the day. The decor and food together make Thai Orchid of Blue Bell a worthy stop for quality exotic cuisine. It would be even better if they paid closer attention to what was being requested. read more

I came here with a friend on our lunch break and I loved it. It is located in a shopping center and the outside does not do this place any justice. Parking was easy and we were seated right away. Service-was fast the waitress also gave us some suggestions on what entrees were popular. Since I was new and never tried Thai food before Food- Thai Ravioli Soup- (Chicken wrapped in delicate ravioli in a clean broth and vegetables) really tasty and the broth was hot and I really enjoyed it Thai Dumplings- YUM! love it and the sauce was the best part Beef Drunken Noodles- I only ate half of it because there was so much and had the rest for dinner that night. The Beef was tender and had a lot of taste and everything was seasoned well. Overall good place for takeout. This place has authentic and large variety of Thai food. Food- 3 stars- We started with the pork and Buddha dumplings. The Buddha dumplings were delicious but the pork tasted a bit off. I wouldn't recommended the pork and would just go for two servings of the Buddha dumplings if you are looking for more dumplings. We the ordered a variety of entrees: drunken noodles, massamam chicken, pad Thai. All the main dishes were pretty good for the price range but nothing to rave about. We only ordered takeout so can't say much about the ambience but the food was ready when promised so happy about that service. read more

My fiance and I are so happy we found this place. We normally go to another Thai restaurant in Conshohocken but every time we have ordered from there we have waited over an hour for food. One night we called our usually place and they said it would take an hour and a half which led us to look for a new restaurant. Our food was ready in under 30 minutes! I only encountered one person when I came to pick up my food but they were wearing a mask correctly which I really appreciated. I always order chicken pad thai and my fiance likes the drunken noodles. We also shared an order of chicken satay which is great. I thought the chicken was a little dry but I loved the sauce. They offer a lot of options on the menu and I believe anyone with dietary restrictions could find something to eat. The restaurant has a very authentic vibe to it and I'm sure would be a lovely place to sit down at once the pandemic is over. This will definitely be our go to restaurant for Thai food. read more

This BYOB serves Thai fare. When I ask for my food to be made spicy, their staff does a great job bringing it out just right. On the menu, if there are 3 peppers by an entree to indicate its spiciness, I request at least 5 (usually 8 to see how high they can kick it up)! Their green curry is genuinely spicy - you ought to sign a waiver before trying to eat it! I've ordered their Thai Bamboo ($7, stir-fried dish with beef - you can get it with chicken - with bamboo shoots, peppers, beans, and fresh basil), drunken noodles (with chicken), and pad thai, all delicious. Servers are friendly - our servers (Nui, and another one I can't spell) are always good and efficient. I've ordered take-out here as well and the food comes out quick. They get busy Fridays and Saturdays! Make reservations if you want to dine in on those days. This is one of my favorite regional Thai restaurants - highly recommended. We arrived at 720, a server finally came to take our order about 15 mins later. Service was terrible, our main dishes were served individually, about 2 minutes apart, which meant the last person in our party of 4 was served about 10 minutes later. When the other waitress had brought our meal, she announced that the kitchen closed in 10 minutes and we needed to order dessert immediately if we wanted it. Just to be safe, we placed a dessert order (green tea lava cake)....I said to the waitress "can you please wait until we are finished eating the dinner though, before you bring out the dessert" My mother and sister in law (ordered drunken noodles and Thai basil) said the flavor was very bad and they did not eat their meals...the waitress and server did not ask why, as a matter of fact no one came to check on us at all. As soon as they cleared the table, our dessert was brought immediately..there was nothing lava about the green tea lava cake. However, we couldn't even take two bites before the original server came over to us and said the kitchen closed 15 minutes ago (it wasn't even 830). The waitress brought our check and we paid and left a tip. And now, my Friends, this is where the truly bizzarre begins. The server aggressively tells us to leave, that I had an "altercation" with his coworker. He/she proceeds to gaslight me , saying that I yelled at the waitress to not bring our desserts. This server then yells at us saying we need to leave immediately, that the restaurant is closed and he/she is going to call the police. Bear in mind we were just served our dessert and hadn't eaten it yet. I then ask them if I can speak to a manager (no) and if they are the owner (no). Finally, from their cellphone, they call someone named Katie, who says she is the manager. I ask the server If I can speak with her and they said no, don't you dare touch my phone with your germs...and put Katie on speaker. I try to explain the situation but the server doesn't let me get a word in edgewise, and Katie says that we can stay another 15 minutes, before hanging up. She never apologized for the servers outrageous behavior. For the next 15 minutes, this server stood in front of our table watching us with their arms crossed..and making rude comments the entire time. I didn't realize that we had paid for dinner and a theatre. It was at this point when I asked for our check back, and that we wanted to change the tip. He/she then tells me that we are on camera and they are watching us and recording our every move. When I went to take a photo of this, they told me that I was forbidden to take a photo but they were recording everything on their surveillance camera for the police. I asked if there was a sign anywhere in the restaurant indicating the presence of such cameras, stating that we are being recorded, and they said no. I'm not sure of the legality of this,but from the little reading I did, restaurants need to post a sign to record their customers. I don't need to tell you that our final 10 minutes at this restaurant were the most awkward I've ever experienced at any dining establishment in the entire world (I'm very well travelled and have also spent a significant amount of time in Thailand, including a 2 months of volunteer work) and the food we were served was a far cry from real Thai food..as a quick glance at the kitchen staff who left abruptly quickly confirmed. Our 10 minutes were over, and as we stood up to leave, the server tells me I better not be driving (I wasn't) as it's illegal to drink and drive and they are calling the police now. He/she follows us to the door and as I exit, I hear them say something. I turn around and open the door to ask what they said, and they said "I'm not talking to you, now leave and mind your own business" , slamming the door in my face...and then I realized that he/she had called Katie to tell her we left. I get in my mom's car, we pull out to leave, and no sooner do I see the server exit the restaurant , running to our car waving their arms ,and following us half way to giant supermarket. Ordered takeout specifying "mild spicy with no extra salt" on the spring rolls. I ordered the Basil Rice described as "mildly spicy" as an entree. Our home health aide ordered Chicken Pad Thai to share with my mom. The Basil Rice was fiery hot like extremely hot peppers. First, I reviewed the food privately, but refrained from posting a negative review. Instead, I called the manager and explained the mishap, requesting a credit against an order for next month when we'd be nearby again. I explained we live 35 minutes away, that I am disabled, and could not return with the food now in rush hour for a replacement. He would only offer a credit for a spring roll, unless we returned immediately for a replacement entree. He said the online platform showed that I had ordered: "mildly spicy" so the chef bumped it up ONE level. I believe that was in reference to appetizer order of spring rolls - specifying it be "mild." But, EVEN IF not, the Basil Rice was off-the-charts spicy, and I could not tolerate it due to health concerns. Shame on this management! I thought that this was a better restaurant with more appropriate management than this. These are terrible business management practices. I tried Pad Thai, Pad Sew, fried rice and Plah Kung salad here and I have to say, the food is dissapointing. The only thing I'd recommend is the Plah Koong salad. The rest are really oily, I can't even finish my meal. I ordered Pad sew the first day and I couldn't eat the whole thing because it's REALLY oily. I decided to give it a try the next day by ordering pad thai and fried rice in hope it would taste better, but no.. they are not. Just a side note, I ordered them on 2 seperate days (one day before the other) just to make sure the chef did not ruin my first day's dish.
